Chapter Forty-Three
Steve stepped into Kate’s office. “Monica Selleck?”
“Yeah,” Kate said, her voice froggy, still hoarse from the week before. She turned the monitor so Steve could watch as Monica charged the net. “She’s playing for the title of her home country.”
“Sweden?”
“Mmm. She’s moved to some place called Gothenburg.”
Steve stooped to watch. “Sounds horrible. How’s she doing?”
“Okay. She’ll win it I guess, but I don’t see the old spark in her game. I don’t think the European Circuit has the same luster for her as the North American.”
“You think she’ll ever be back?”
“I think if she could just get over the embarrassment of peeing in the grass, she’d be the darling of the talk-show circuit. And a major sports celebrity to boot.”
