Chapter 40

1970 Words
Riley knocked on the door before confirming whether she was at the right address with one of the passerby. The house seemed too big and luxurious for a mere nanny. A 2 storey house with 8000 square meters which should be atleast 4 million dollar, not to mention the money needed just to maintain the garden. Riley frowned as she thought of how Nancy managed to scrape that much money together. She could hear someone walk towards the door before it opened revealing none other than Nancy. "Who are..." Nancy trailed off as she took in the person that fired her from her well paying job with the least amount of work. "No introduction required, I suppose." Riley said with a lop sided grin. Nancy's shocked face was imprinted in her mind when she- Laura, technically- fired her. Ahh the only good thing she has done till now in this case. "Step aside I need to search your house, you are suspected for affiliation with human trafficking." Riley stated revealing no emotion on her face but internally enjoyed the terrified look on Nancy's face. "What? No. Who are you to search my house?" Nancy asked in a panicked tone. "FBI." Riley replied with a proud smirk as she showed the older lady her ID. "Riley.... but you're Lillian." Nancy asked in a breathless tone. Wheels spinning inside her head. Did she change her name? Nancy looked over her shoulder to take a look inside her house- arousing Riley's suspicion, was she hiding something she wondered- before looking back as her. Regaining her composure, Nancy straightened her back to look confident and intimidating- which was hard since Riley towered over her by good 2 inches. "You don't have a warrant." She stated looking into Riley's eyes. Riley gave her a wide smile at that. Thank God she asked Casey to issue a search warrant a few days ago. She opened her leather jacket to search for the paper and shoved it into Nancy's chest before pushing past her and into the house. Woah. If she though the exterior was luxurious then the interior was priceless. How could a mere nanny afford this? "What's your salary?" Riley asked as she looked around the giant house in wonder. "How's that any of your business?" Nancy shot back, her lips twisting in irritation. 24 years ago she was looking after her tirelessly and this was the payment she received from this slip of a girl. Riley's eyes stopped wandering as she took in the portrait of a familiar face. She brought her hand to her face in shock. "Stephenie!" Riley exclaimed looking at Nancy- who looked annoyed. "You know my daughter?" Nancy asked, tilting her head to the side with one eyebrow raised. "Know her? I despice her with a passion! Aww you just gave me an even bigger reason to find something against you." She said with a mischievous and evil grin. As she turned her head, she saw the top part of a statue- which she was really sure wasn't Nancy's. "What's a 300k dollars worth bust doing at your place?" Riley asked excited, this is more than enough to prove either she is guilty of theft or that she is doing some shady business on the side to get this much cash. Nancy paled as she saw Riley walk towards the thing. Nancy gulped down her saliva with difficulty, searching for an excuse. "Your father gave it to me." She said, hoping she sounded confident. "Ah ha?" Riley made a sound from the back of her throat, questioningly. "You know if I was Lillian I would've given you the benefit of doubt." Riley started as she lifted the bust from it's place. What a heavy thing it was! "But you see, I'm not. You see Vincent isn't a very giving person. So how did you manage to get your hands on this." Riley asked her with an evil glint in her eye. Nancy gulped as she tried to process her words. If she was Lillian? Meaning, she isn't Lillian? "You aren't Lillian?" She asked as she unsteadily took a step back. Riley made a sound from the back of her throat as she shook her head in affirmation. "Then....you are..?" Riley 'accidentally' dropped the bust before stepping towards Nancy- who flinched from the sound of the bust connecting with the floor, shattering it into pieces. "Ohh how Clumsy of me. My apologies I'm not usually that Clumsy. I'm Riley by the way, Lillian's twin sister." Riley extended her hand as she introduced herself while Nancy was gaping at her like a fish underwater. "I will have you sued for this." She stuttered out as she looked at the bust that has now shattered into pieces. The eyes of the bust looking at her, as if mocking her. Did she really expect not to get caught? "Legally parents property belongs to their children too. And would you look at that, I am his daughter." God, she had never been so ecstatic for being that man's daughter. "He gave it to me." Nancy stated, defending herself. "I will ask Vincent myself, whether he gave it to you or not." Riley said, fishing her phone out of her pant pocket. But as she unlocked her phone screen, she frowned as she realized she didn't have Vincent's phone number. "What? Scared? I will file a complaint against you." Nancy said crossing her arms over her chest, assuming that Riley didn't have the courage to call him in case she was wrong. "Do it." Riley said rolling her eyes. If she did press charges against her then she could easily get Vincent to testify in the court. And she could always say that she changed her name. She went inside a room with a yelling Nancy hot on her heels. It had a lot of pictures of Stephenie and ones with different people. So Riley assumed that it was Stephanie's room and opened the cupboard. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? ARE YOU CRAZY?" Nancy yelled at her as Riley threw the clothes hanging inside the cupboard on the bed behind her. Riley soon found a blue velvet box and took it out. Her curiosity grew even more as Nancy tried to snatched it away from her. "Shhh." Riley hushed her as Nancy turned a panicky mess seeing her open the box. A neatly placed diamond necklace sat inside the box. Riley wasn't the biggest fan of jewelry or kept up with the latest jewelry fashions but the necklace was gorgeous. The beauty and the shimmer of the necklace almost blinded her. It had a tear drop blue sapphire hanging in the middle with small diamonds encrusted on the side of the necklace. She couldn't picture Laura losing her jewelry or Vincent wearing one. And Lucy didn't live there for her jewelry to be stolen so it had to be Lillian's. As she was deep in thoughts she let Nancy snatched the box out of her hands. "Don't touch it." She hissed as she shut the box. "That's Lillian's." Riley said quietly, in the same position she was in before Nancy snatched the box away. "No, it's my daughter's." Nancy said, hiding the box behind her back. Riley couldn't recognize the feeling inside her, it felt uncomfortable, strange and heavy. "Give it to me." She said quietly as she felt light headed. Did Lillian receive any of the gift Vincent gave her? The thought made her want to throw up. "I'm not fooling AROUND." Riley said started in a quiet tone before lashing out. Her tone startled Nancy and she froze which enabled Riley to snatched the box back. "I won't ask again. Whose is it?" Riley asked in a quiet tone which frightened Nancy. This Lilli- Riley seemed different than the one that knocked on her door earlier. She seemed much more dangerous. A glint in her eyes that promised her hell if she didn't give her the answer she was looking for. She almost missed Lillian then- the passive girl that didn't really care much about anything, much less about the necklaces. "Lillian's." Nancy whimpered out. She wasn't sure what made her answer truthfully, was it her dark aura or the way she asked the question. She wasn't sure anymore. Riley took a deep breath to stop herself from lashing out. It didn't matter that she destroyed the bust because it wasn't Nancy's and hence she can't file a complaint against her but attacking the person could land her in serious trouble. And Nancy wasn't worth the trouble. "What all did you take from that place?" Riley gritted out. It took a lot of strength and self control to not pounce on her. Twist her arm and cuff her right then and there before putting her behind the bars- exactly where she belonged- for good. But that wasn't all, she wanted to give her sister all her belongings. Everything that this b***h stole from her ever since she was nothing but a helpless child. "But-" Nancy started but got cut off by Riley. "Get going." She muttered with a smile as she leaned against the cupboard, deep in thoughts. Was Nancy aware of Lillian being r***d? Did she let it happen right under her nose? Did she..... were they working together? Riley took a deep breath, trying to push all the thoughts away. After 5 minutes Nancy returned and summoned Riley to the living room where she arranged all the things she stole. "That's it?" Riley asked with disgust. There was barely anything that mattered there. Only clothes and some other small stuffs. There were no more valuables... Nancy nodded her head, scared out of wits. Riley gave her a cold glare that made Nancy divert her attention from her face. "I sold the rest." She whispered quietly, feeling guilty all of a sudden. "You WHAT?" Riley yelled at her making the other women shrink in fear. "I sold it to buy the house." Nancy elaborated. Riley's body trembled in anger but she somehow managed to swallow it down. "Sell this house." She stated, leaving no room for arguments. "What?" Nancy shrieked out. Alright maybe what she did was wrong but where was she supposed to go if she sold this house. "I will give you time till the end of this week, if you haven't sold it by then and gave the money to my sister, I will make sure you regret it." Riley said stepping closer to her and bent down so they were seeing eye to eye and emphasized the last fee words. She could see Nancy's fear and her frustration. She wouldn't have any money then and she was close to retiring age, no one would hire her. Where was she supposed to go? "I won't have a place to stay." Nancy said in a small voice. Frankly, the young women in front of her terrified her. "You can leave that to me." Riley said, straightening her back. "I can't find buyers that fast." "Sell it for a loss, I don't care. But keep in mind if you don't pay back for all the goods you stole, then I will come back to haunt you." Riley said emphasizing on the last few words with an evil look in her eyes. "Did you know Markus was r****g my sister?" Riley said, holding her chin with her finger. Nancy shook her head immediately. 'Can we touch guys there?' 'But what if someone touches me there?' Lillian's voice flashed through her head. So that's what she meant..... Nancy thought to herself looking at the girl walk towards the door. Well that's all she needed, she suppose. Riley reiterated once again what Nancy had to do by the end of the week before leaving the house.
