"I am perfectly normal"
"Hey, are you even listening?" "Hm?" I was too caught up thinking about the promise I didn't keep yesterday. I promised Troveleen that I would keep her company at the newly opened mall a couple of blocks from the school. I ditched her when I heard about the mall being haunted. Classic me. We were beside my lockers and the hallway was filled with students. Some were sitting on the floor, gadgets in hand, and some were standing, chattering, laughing, and playing with their friends. "This was the third time you spaced out in our fifteen-minute talk, Bea. Is something wrong?", he asked, pulling me closer. "It's nothing, Matt." I was embarrassed at the fact that I up and ran the moment I heard "haunted mall" escape my boyfriend's lips the other day. I'm a chicken when it comes to anything "supernatural". "Aww come on, please?", he said to me, pouting like a puppy. I smiled but didn't say anything. "Is it about what I said yesterday? About the haunted mall?" I gaped at him and he laughed so hard the other students glanced at us. "Trove told me you ditched her and left her at that mall." He was grinning. The bastard played a prank on me. Then I realized it was April fools' day yesterday. Typical, I know. I glared at him and punched his stomach. He groaned and dropped to the ground. I'm such a great girlfriend, aren't I? Now the tables were turned. I was grinning and he was glaring. I was about to help him up when someone covered my eyes. "Guess who." She said it with such mockery in her voice that I instantly knew who it was. Trove removed her hands and frowned. She muttered something about changing her voice the next time she was going to do it. I apologized for what happened shortly after. She told me about the prank and I felt my cheeks heat up. I promised to make it up to her even if I was scared of going to that mall. The bastard. The class was about to start in two minutes but there were only three of us in the room. Soon the bell rang, and the teacher came in, while everyone else came running to their seats. An hour later, one of my classmates walked in. "You're earlier than usual." "Not as early as when your mom climaxed last night." "Screw you." The class roared with ooh's and the teacher joined in. "Marvin, yours is too small to even make a woman moan." Oohs grew louder and Marvin rolled his eyes. Our class was crowned the most energetic class in the high school department. Most of us, including me, had loud voices and we all would be hysterically laughing at almost everything. Our teachers were young enough to relate to. They would be easy-going and understanding. "Anyways, let's continue what we're talking about. Some of you believe that we are only accessing parts of our brain and that we have unexplored parts but that is pure myth. There are drugs that enhance your memory, process information, and be alert but you are already using your brain fully. " The teacher started talking about the brain and my mind starts wandering again. I wonder what I'll do tonight. Will I watch movies again or read a book? Oh, I'm craving tea. I'll definitely drink tea whether I'll watch or read. I miss my bed. I married my bed years ago and I wouldn't cheat on it. Even if I sleep on other beds, no bed would compare to my dear bed. "Ms. Roye, doesn't mean I'm talking about brains you could go wandering in your brain. What did I just talk about?" Oh, God. I hate it when this happens. Crap. What the hell do I say? I cleared my throat. Just as I was about to answer, the bell miraculously rang. Saved by the Bell, indeed. I smiled at the teacher and made my way to the door. The next class was Language Arts. We had to choose a language to learn whether it be Korean, Japanese, German, or Chinese. I chose to learn Korean because it was my dream to become a Kpop Star even if I'm not Korean at all. Hours later, the school has ended and I was on my way to the main gate. "Trize." I turned around to see the tall familiar guy grinning down at me like he won a prize. While everyone else calls me Bea, he, who likes calling people weird nicknames, was the only one calling me Trize. He was one of my closest friends. Scratch that, he was my best friend. "What's up?" He didn't say anything. Instead, he raised two tickets for our favorite band, "The Autumn". I shrieked and lunged at him. I released him and was jumping up and down, thanking him and asking how he got them. The tickets were very expensive and hard to find since the concert was days away. We went to all the ticket stores in and around town and all of them were sold out. We also went to find tickets online. Sadly there was no luck. When we were able to find it a couple of towns away from ours, the tickets were too high priced. So we gave up and agreed to watch the concert online, since you can get anything online nowadays, even for free. And now, days after we gave up, he magically has tickets for the concert. I was dumbfounded and I didn't try to hide it. "A friend of mine gave it to me. He and his sister were supposed to go but then something came up so they had to cancel it. He remembered me sulking about our failed attempts so he gave theirs." He explained. He did get a prize. And it was a golden one. "What are you guys talking about?" I looked behind Chris and saw Matt along with my other friends, John, Chriss, Andrew, and Daniel. They were a year higher than Chris and I. "We're going to the concert downtown in a couple of days." He showed the tickets and the boys grinned. They knew the time, effort, and failed attempts that had happened. Chris briefly explained how he got them and we left the school to grab a quick bite at Mcdonald's and went strolling in town. We decided to go to John's house to do our requirements. "Heya, Mrs. Jones.", Matt greeted. "Hello, dear." "Where's dad?" "You know him, he'll come home late again." "He's been working late since last week." "Investors from Saudi came to talk to your father about the company. Apparently, they're starting a new project involving AIs.", Mrs. Jones said while handing us cookies she bought from the bakery. "I'm going to replicate this for sure. The cookies taste amazing." "Cool, AIs. They'd probably be the ones working while we humans sit on our asses and do almost nothing.", Chriss gleefully said, grabbing a cookie from the tray. "It's going to be lucky for those who never had a job but those who already have one, well, lose their jobs when some of them have been working for years. It'll be difficult for them to put food on their tables and roofs over their heads." Andrew said, already munching on the cookie. "It does taste amazing." Daniel was staring at the wall. "It's not a one-time event, AI revolution. Its development isn't going to change greatly at one time, it'll change gradually. Though it's gradually changing, the change is rapid. Those who can't keep up with it will be left behind. Companies and people alike won't survive." "True. We might even turn into an AI. With the rapid improvement of technology, we can transfer our consciousness to an artificial body.", I said, interested in the topic.  "What a world we live in. A digital world." John nodded. "Well kids, I hate to burst your bubble but you better work on your requirements. It seems like you have a lot to do." As I was working, I was thinking of how my life is. My life is normal and I am perfectly normal.
