Chapter 1
~Elena~
Breath.
Breath.
Just count to ten
Inhale…1
Exhale…2
Inhale…3
Oh, screw it.
“You piece of s**t!” I scream as my left hand morphed into a fist and it goes flying straight to my boyfriend’s nose. I hear a c***k and I smile knowing for sure that I broke his nose, but no blood spills out. Good I don’t want his blood on my parents’ front yard.
“f**k Lena!” Noah hissed as his hand goes straight to his nose to hold it.
I shake my hand slightly in hopes that it takes away the pain that is starting to spread around my knuckles.
“Shut up! And don’t call me that! You lost the privilege to do so!” I push my index finger into his hard chest, making him step away from me a little.
“Don’t do this, Elena!” He calls out and takes a step forward. I step back and shake my head. I will be damned if I let him touch me again with those hands. He stops walking and runs a hand through his shaggy blond hair, while he lets out a frustrated sigh. His blue eyes shine with sadness, and I roll my eyes.
The nerve of this guy to feel sadness right now!
“Everything okay out here?” My older brother Alejandro asked from the front door of the house, I move my eyes to his and I see him carrying out a box to his truck.
“No!” “Yes!” Me and Noah said at the same time. I jerk my head back and scoffed at Noah.
“I’m done talking to you” I say and turn around and start walking to Alejandro’s truck. When suddenly, a hand wraps around my forearm and gives me a slight tug.
“Don’t you dare touch me!” I snarled out, and in that moment, Alejandro dropped the box to the ground and started marching our way with a furious gaze.
“I think it’s time for you to leave” Alejandro said as he pulled me behind him and pinned Noah down with his death glare. Noah physically gulped and nodded his head once. He knows not to pick a fight with Alejandro. While Alejandro was buffed, Noah was more in the slim side.
“I’m getting you back, Elena” he said, and started walking towards his car.
Alejandro finally pulled me from his back once Noah’s car was out of sight. I take one deep breath and hold onto myself. Alejandro turns around and pulls me into his arms for a hug. “Get in the car, I will get the last of your things in the truck” he said, and I nodded, he loosened his grip around me, and I walk towards his car. Once inside, I bulked up and waited patiently while Alejandro finished loading up the last boxes.
-
After a few minutes, the driver's door of the truck swings open and in swiftly enters Alejandro. He buckles up and starts driving. “You better start talking, before I turn around this truck, call the boys and go and kill him” Ale spoke up after a few minutes of driving.
I look at him and I see that he is holding the steering wheel a little too hard, that his tanned skin is starting to look white. His dark brown eyes are narrowed, and his full lips are pressed into a thin line.
Alejandro has always been the typical overprotective older brother and I love him for that, and so have been his football teammates. I have one blood-related brother, but friend-related, I have like 20.
.
But sometimes I feel that he gets too involved in my life, that he forgets to live his own life.
“He cheated” I softly said, not wanting to hear the words myself.
“Hijo de puta” he snarled, hitting the steering wheel with force. “Lo voy a matar” he said as he stole a glance my way before looking back to the road. I just slum into the car seat, trying not to think of it. “I’m calling Adriana. I’m sure she would like to get a few hits in too” Ale said with a smirk on his face, and I just rolled my eyes.
“Don’t bother, I’m sure cheating is a two-person thing, and they sure enjoyed dancing tango together” I said as I leaned my head against the window and looking at the road. Ale stays silent for a while, letting my words sink in. After a minute or so of silence, he cursed under his breath.
“Cabrona”
“Let’s just leave it as it is. I’m moving in with you and the boys, I’m halfway through college with a 3.90 GPA. I don’t need them and they sure as hell don’t need me.” I said, stretching my hand out to change the radio station. I hate Ale’s taste of music. For a Puerto Rican, he has horrible taste in music. I smile at the thought, but it soon washes away when everything crashes down on me once again.
“I’m sorry Lena” Ale said with sadness in his tone, he lifts his right hand and ruffles my hair lightly, well as much as you can ruffle thick curls.
I close my eyes and Ale doesn’t push the subject any longer and I’m happy about that. If I’m being totally honest, I don’t want to talk about it, let alone think about it. I start humming to a song and soon start drifting off to sleep, to a place where Noah and not Adriana can hurt me with their betrayal.
