CHAPTER FIVE

1140 Words
Prince Liam was really really upset about the princess's outburst. How dare she talk that way to him. I'll have to be more strict with her then, he thought. His dad wanted to talk about his "behavior" all thanks to that wife of his. At least now, he had the chance to talk to his father about what he wanted, yes this would be a really good time to do that, he said to himself and entered. "oh you're here Liam?" his father said upon seeing him entering his chambers. "yes father." he replied, "what did you want to talk about father?, I have some things to attend to" he said impatiently, constantly gazing out the door. "Liam, I wanted to talk about your marriage and... "......"what about it?" he replied, not waiting for his father to finish his statement. "this is what I want to talk about!! I don't like this new attitude of yours, going to different parties, coming home late, heavy drinking, the multiple mistresses, all these won't take you anywhere, it'll only destroy your life" "my life has already been destroyed!!!by your dearest wife and her son!! what more is there to destroy?!tell me father!!" he yelled, his eyes getting darker and his entire body, shaking heavily. He was really angry now. "calm down my son, calm down, no need to get angry, come have a sit." he said, leading him to the large chair at the corner of the room. "I just want you to be more responsible, knowing you have a wife now." his father added when he was fully seated. "but what do I do father? I have no one now, no family, nobody bothers to know how I'm faring. I don't expect your wife to care but I expected more from you dad, but you're always so busy with your new family that you can't even spare a second for your son? why father? what did I do to deserve all this unfair treatment from you huh? answer me dad, answer me? how can you blame me for taking to drinking when it's the only thing that makes me forget all my troubles" he said, now sobbing silently. His father started feeling pity for him as everything he said made sense. He was equally responsible for ruining his son's life and turning him into the person he was now. He didn't blame him, the poor boy lost his mother at a young age and his father just focused on his new family, leaving him out. Anyone in his place would have done the same. But now, he had to make amends before it's too late. He had to pay attention to the little things he had neglected before. "I'm so sorry Liam, I'm so sorry. I didn't realize this sooner. what can I do to be a better father? please tell me what I can do to redeem myself." "it's no use father, perhaps I should just die so that your family will be perfect" he said sobbing some more. "no son, nothing of that sort will happen. you won't die, just tell me what you want, I'll do anything to see you out of this state." his father said fearfully. This was the right time to get his plan into action, the perfect time to make the final move. "there's something you can do father that can make all my sadness go away" "yes tell me Liam, tell me" "I need... I need you to make me your heir" he said looking directly into his father's eyes, hoping for a satisfying response. His father paused, clearly shocked at his son's demand. "can you do that for your son, dad?" his father didn't respond. "I should have known that you won't do it? I was a fool to believe that you still loved me when you clearly don't! you only love your wife and her son. But you know it's unfair dad, aren't I your son too?" his father paced up and down in the room, sweating profusely. Liam knew he was pressing the right buttons on his dad and he just needed a little bit more to drive him to the extreme. After some more thinking, his father sat down close to him, placing a hand on his shoulder,he spoke, "my son, I want the best for you and you know it. But I just can't fullfil that wish of yours" " I should have known dad, do you know what will happen to your son when you leave? If you die tomorrow, Levi will take the throne and his mother and his wife will support him. then, they'll throw me out of this palace." that's what will happen. but if you give me the throne, I'll become king but I won't throw them out, I'll let them stay here, I'll treat them like family but you know that they'll never treat me well, just think about it dad, or do you want your son to die? do you want me to be thrown out of my own home?" he said hoping in his mind that he got the desired results he wanted from his father, he had pulled the last straw now. His father placed his hands on his forehead deep in thought. He was a wise and just king who had ruled over his kingdom for years, so why can't he find a way out of this situation. He knew Liam very well, once he wants something, he makes sure he gets it no matter what.He doesn't want his son to do something he may live to regret but giving him the thrown would mean being unjust to his first son, levi. But he had to do something. "I've heard what you had to say, but I'll have to speak to my royal council and also speak to Levi about this. but I'm sure I'll get a positive response." "thank you dad." he responded, "I'll take your leave now" he said and bowed. After leaving, the king was in deep thought. Liam's request had really shocked him, he never expected him to ask for something this big, but he had to do it, for his son. Levi was his eldest son and giving his younger brother the throne wouldn't be fair to him but he had to do it. He walked over to the little bedside table, picking up a picture frame which had Iris's picture on it, she was his first love and he still misses her alot and he was sure her son missed her more, he hasn't been the same person he was since her death and if complying with his demands was the only way to make him happy, then he'll surely do it. He just had to talk to Levi and Astrid about it first.
