Chapter 1: The Clash at Eldmere
The story starts with the German empire and French empire armies facing each other on the Eldmere battlefield. The German empire soldiers' morale is shaken by the thunder of French empire cannons. But this is a pivotal moment, not just any war. The French kingdom army is commanded by General Bertrand Godfrey, while the German empire army is led by General Conrad Albrecht. King Fredrick has sent Conrad himself to protect Castle Falkin. Seeing his soldiers' spirits faltering, Conrad makes a bold decision: he himself enters the battlefield with his final trump card—five thousand elite German empire knights. He has a bold plan: breach the French army defenses, avoid the cannon fire, and go straight to General Godfrey's camp to kill him. Conrad fights valiantly, eliminating enemy after enemy while the knights offer cover and moving quickly forward. General Godfrey, who is observing from a distance, sets up a trap by giving his men specific instructions to clear the path, which pulls Conrad farther into the field. Conrad doesn't realize the trap until it's too late because of his battle-fueled resolve. French army horse archers encircled the German empire knights, cutting them down with a relentless volley. Each knight dropped, overwhelmed by a deadly hail of arrows." Conrad nevertheless rushes ahead, eventually arriving at Godfrey. They engage in a fierce duel; they are both strong and talented. However, when French army archers start aiming for Conrad, the situation changes. This, too, was part of Godfrey’s plan. Weakened by the arrows, Conrad continues to attack with all his might. Godfrey, wanting to break German empire army morale, prolongs the fight. The sight of their strongest general suffering causes fear to spread through the German empire army ranks, and many begin to retreat toward the castle. Then, a fatal arrow strikes Conrad’s neck. "Godfrey thrusts his blade into him and raises his voice in triumph." The German empire troops flee into the castle. Soon after, French kingdom cannons destroy parts of Castle Falkin’s wall, allowing their forces to storm inside. Smiling at the sight, General Godfrey watches the French kingdom flag rise above the German empire castle. Blood covers the fields of Eldmere; the air is thick with smoke and sorrow. Following the victory, General Godfrey holds a court inside Castle Falkin, congratulating his officers. “The day is not far,” he says, “when the same flag we raised here will fly in Nuremberg—the German empire capital.” Laughter echoes across the hall. "What are we going to do with the prisoners, my general?" a soldier asks as he enters. "They are ours now—assign them labor, guard them for ransom, and let their suffering serve as an example," Godfrey says in a blunt and icy tone. After pausing, he continues, "And the severed heads of General Conrad and the others—bring them to me." “Yes, General,” replies a soldier. “Good,” says Godfrey. “Fetch me a German captive—I have a message to deliver to their king.” Later, a soldier brings in a German prisoner. Godfrey walks up to him and says, “The time of the German Empire is over. It won’t be long before all of German empire is under French kingdom control. We’ve conquered much of Europe—Italy, Spain—and now it’s German empire turn. Take this head of your general, Conrad Albrecht, and deliver my message to your king. Tell him his time is coming too.” Godfrey gives the prisoner a horse and releases him toward Nuremberg. --- In King Fredrick’s court in Nuremberg, an uneasy silence fills the air. His worry is visible. At that moment, the German Prime Minister, Matthias, enters and salutes the king. Fredrick motions for him to sit and asks, “What news do you bring from the warfront, Matthias?” Softly, Matthias replies, “My king… we have suffered a defeat. But worse than the loss is this—we have lost our greatest general, Conrad Albrecht.” Fredrick closes his eyes and responds, “That alone is enough, Matthias. Losing Conrad is our true defeat. He wasn’t just a commander — to me, he was family. "We will carry his memory in our hearts always." Then, Royal Adviser Helmrich Kessler speaks: “My king, this war was started by the French king, Louis Alphonse. He has turned Europe into a battlefield. He has already conquered Italy and Spain, and now his eyes are on our empire. However, this war will be his final one. Power-hungry, he believes it will be simple to conquer German empire, but he is mistaken. We will answer him with fire.” King Fredrick nods. “You are right, Helmrich. We aided Italy against the French kingdom—that anger still burns in King Louis’s heart. This war is his revenge.” Just then, a soldier enters the court and announces, “A German soldier has arrived from Eldmere. He was sent by French General Godfrey with a message.” Fredrick orders him to be brought in. Soon, the soldier arrives, salutes the king, and delivers Godfrey’s cruel message. He points to the coffin brought by others. When it is opened, General Conrad's and the other officers' severed heads are visible. The court is engulfed in shock and anger. Overcome with grief and rage, King Fredrick gets up and draws his sword. "We'll get even with our martyrs! Their blood shall not be in vain. "I will crush the French kingdom forces and personally deliver Godfrey’s head to King Louis!" "Through the silence, a voice reverberates from the court's entrance." Everyone turns to see a black-clad man with a hood covering his face. Who is this stranger? The court goes silent in bewilderment. King Fredrick, however, smiles. He recognizes the person.
