King Louis Alphonse’s royal court was in session. King Louis Alphonse, seated on his throne with great splendor, held in his hands a letter from the King of the Hungarian Empire, Miklos Williams III. He was reading the letter with deep attention.
After reading the letter completely, King Louis Alphonse said to the courier who had brought the letter from the King of the Hungarian Empire, Miklos Williams III:
“You may go now and take some rest. We will have a reply to this letter written shortly.”
Then King Louis Alphonse said to a court servant:
“Go and take the courier to his chamber so he may rest.”
After the courier left the court, Royal Adviser Rousseau Marcel asked King Louis Alphonse:
“What has the King of the Hungarian Empire written in his letter?”
In response, King Louis Alphonse said to Royal Adviser Rousseau Marcel:
“This letter brings us great news. The King of the Hungarian Empire, Miklos Williams III, has promised to support us in the war against the German Empire. He has also written that he is working to break the alliance of the German Empire and will soon succeed in separating both Austria and Poland from it.”
Hearing this, Royal Adviser Rousseau Marcel said to King Louis Alphonse:
“This is indeed great news for us! If the Hungarian Empire also joins us in this war, it will be far easier for us to destroy the German Empire.”
Then Prime Minister Duvall Etienne asked King Louis Alphonse:
“My King, has the King of the Hungarian Empire written in this letter how he intends to break the alliance of the German Empire?”
Responding to the Prime Minister, King Louis Alphonse said:
“No, he hasn’t mentioned that in this letter. But he has clearly written that if we succeed in breaking the German Empire’s alliance, then he will attack the German Empire with full force from his side, and we from ours. Thus, without giving them any respite, the German Empire will be erased from the map of the world.”
After hearing all this, Prime Minister Duvall Etienne said:
“Indeed, my King, it shall be so. But this may not be as easy as it seems. What have you decided, my King? Are you ready to join forces with the Hungarian Empire in this war?”
King Louis Alphonse replied to the Prime Minister:
“Yes, absolutely. If we wish to achieve victory over the German Empire, we must have the support of the Hungarian Empire.”
Hearing this, Royal Adviser Rousseau Marcel said:
“You have made the right decision, my King. By joining forces with the Hungarian Empire, it will be much easier for us to destroy the German Empire.”
Then King Louis Alphonse said:
“Very well then, send our letter to the King of the Hungarian Empire. We accept his alliance against the German Empire. But if we succeed in conquering the German Empire, then what to do afterward shall be decided by us.”
On the other hand, in Castle Falkin, Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — was in a state of great restlessness. Catherine’s image kept coming to his mind repeatedly, because of which many questions were arising in his thoughts. Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — decides to go to Hans Adler to calm his restlessness.
He quickly left the Iron Hall and, having changed his appearance, reached Hans Adler. Hans Adler, suddenly seeing Reynold that is (Leon Klaus) — became alarmed. He quickly took Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — with him into the back room of the shop and asked, “What are you doing here? I told you that you must stop coming to me now. But you have come again after a few days. Has something happened? Is there any special reason for coming?”
In reply Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — said to Hans Adler, “There is a reason for coming here, but the reason are you thinking is not the reason.”
Then Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — told the whole incident of how he met Catherine and what happened thereafter. After hearing all story of Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus), Hans Adler said, “So you want me to search for that man who was chasing that girl? Leaving our purpose aside?”
In reply Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — said to Hans Adler, “It’s a small matter, what is there to be so angry about? I could have searched for that man even as a French General, but if I do that, Godfrey and his companions might suspect me.”
In reply Hans Adler said to Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus), “Look brother, you know Castle Falkin is not an ordinary castle — it is a whole city. Many people live here, there are countless houses and shops. And you are asking me to searching the one man in the entire city?Besides, we did not come here for nothing; we came with a very important purpose. Let that purpose be completed once, then afterward you can do whatever you want for that girl. Anyway, you said she is German, so she will not go anywhere from here. Wait a little.”
Hearing all of Hans Adler’s words, Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — became angry and replied, “Fine! If you will not help me then don’t do. I will see to it myself.”
And he left there.
On the other side, in the Royal Fortress of Nerumbreg, King Fredrick’s court was in session. But King Fredrick and all the courtiers was looking in very tense, because Konard Harshal’s spies had delivered the news to King Fredrick in Nerumbreg that the King of the Hungarian Empire, Miklos Williams III, forming an alliance with the French Kingdom against the German Empire.
First, King Fredrick said in a loud angry voice, “Now the water has passed over the head. We must also enter the field with full force against both the Hungarian Empire and the French Kingdom.”
In reply General Erich Lukas said, “My King, you are absolutely right. But as long as our alliance exists with the empires of Poland, Denmark, and Austria, both the Hungarian Empire and the French Kingdom cannot attack us with their full force. As far as I can tell, the King of the Hungarian Empire, Miklos Williams III, will first attempt to break our alliance. That is why we must be vigilant.”
After hearing General Erich Lukas’s words, King Fredrick said, “You are right. Our spies have also reported that in the border regions, the Hungarian Empire’s troops have been seen making suspicious minor movements. Do you understand, General Erich Lukas, what this means? It means that the King of the Hungarian Empire, Miklos Williams III, will attack the trade caravans of our allied empires to break our alliance, which could weaken or even break our alliance.”
Hearing all this, General Erich Lukas said to King Fredrick, “You are saying absolutely right, my King. Give me the order that I should go to the border regions and, under my supervision, protect the trade caravans.”
King Fredrick said, “No, not you. For this task I have chosen General Marco Brandt.” Then King Fredrick said to General Marco Brandt, “General Marco Brandt, prepare for departure quickly. You will have to go to the border regions and monitor those routes through which all trade caravans enter the German Empire.”
General Marco Brandt said, “As you command, my King. Grant me permission to begin preparations for departure.”
King Fredrick said, “Certainly, go and begin preparations.”
General Marco Brandt said, “As you command, my King,” and left the court.
Then King Fredrick told Foreigner Minister Michaels Kruger, “Immediately deliver our letter to our allied empires, that they should secure their trade routes on their side. And when those commercial convoys enter the German Empire, thereafter the responsibility for protecting those convoys will be ours. Do not fall into the enemy’s trap; our alliance is strong enough that together we can face both the French Kingdom and the Hungarian Empire.”
After hearing all of King Fredrick’s words, Foreigner Minister Michaels Kruger said, “As you command, my King.”
On the other side, in Castle Falkin, Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — was going to Catherine house to meet Catherine. After some time Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — reached outside Catherine’s house. After thinking for a moment, Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — knocked on the house door.
From inside Catherine’s voice came, “Who is it?”
In reply Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — said, “It is I, Reynold.”
After a few moments Catherine opened the door and a light breeze blew, making Catherine’s hair sway in the air. When Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — saw Catherine he simply kept looking; his gaze was fixed on Catherine face. Then Catherine touched Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — and asked, “Why have you come here?”
Catherine’s touching brought Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — become back to his senses, but he still could not say what he wanted to say and why he had come here. After thinking for a while, Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — asked Catherine, “May I come inside?”
Catherine said, “Yes, of course.”
Then she led Reynold into her house. In fact Catherine’s house was quite small, with only one room to live in. Catherine say to Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — sit here and gave him water.
After drinking the water, Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — said to Catherine, “I have only come to ask the same question I asked you before, but you did not answer earlier. After all, who was that man and why was he chasing you?”
Catherine said, “It seems that until you get an answer you will not stop following me. So listen carefully: he is a French merchant for whom I used to work. But he did not pay we Germans for our work and no one will could stand against him, because we Germans have now become like servants to these French. But I raised my voice for my rights and demanded mine pay, but he refused to give it and he start whipping me. I grabbed his whipe from him and struck him in the face, and ran away. That is why he is chasing me.”
As Catherine was telling all this to Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus), suddenly there was a loud knock on her house door and a voice outside shouted, “Come out, girl! Now who will save you from me!”
When Catherine heard this she told Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus), “This is the one who was following me! What should I do now? He will not leave me; he will kill me!”
But Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — said, “Dont worry. I am here — as long as I am with you no one can lay a hand on you.”
Then Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — took Catherine’s hand, opened the house door, and stepped outside. Outside, the merchant had come with some men. Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — said to the merchant, “If you have courage then come and try to lay your hand on Catherine. Lets see how you save yourself today!”
Then merchant told his mens, “Go and bring the girl to me!”
Then Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — told Catherine to stand behind him and advanced to face them.
Reynold beat that merchant’s men one by one very cruelly — breaking someone’s arm and another’s leg. Seeing all this, the merchant began to flee, but Catherine picked up a stone and struck him on the head, causing him to fall to the ground.
Then Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — caught the merchant and beat him so much that his condition became near death. But when Reynold was beating him, Catherine said to Reynold, “Stop, enough!”
Hearing Catherine’s voice, Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — released the merchant and said, “After today do not ever appear here again, otherwise next time I will not leave you alive!”
Then he went to Catherine and said, “I promise that from today on I will not let anyone cause you harm.”
When, Reynold — that is (Leon Klaus) — said this, Catherine, with great unease, hugged him tightly.
Was King Fredrick’s decision to assign Marco Brandt the responsibility of protecting the trade caravans right or wrong?
Leon Klaus, setting his own purpose aside to help Catherine — is that in his favor or against him? Only time will tell.
