Chapter 6 : The Condition of Alliance

Godfrey’s court was held, and all courtiers were waiting for Godfrey. After some time Godfrey appeared in the court. All courtiers greeted Godfrey. After answering their greetings, Godfrey asked them to sit in their places and he himself sat on his chair.

First, Vanillat Rousseau spoke:

“General, you seem quite restless to me. Has something happened?”

On this Godfrey said:

“You are right Vanillat. Reynold had brought a letter from King Louis Alphonse. In it there was an order that with the reinforcement I am sending, you will attack the city of Grunstadt. But you all know more than half of the reinforcement has already been destroyed by the Germans. So now how can we attack the city of Grunstadt? This reinforcement is very little to attack and siege of the city Grunstadt.”

Hearing this, all the courtiers went into thought. But Godfrey said:

“I have a solution for this problem and I hope you all will like my plan.”

On this Vanillat Rousseau said:

“Of course, please tell us your plan.”

Godfrey said:

“You, Vanillat Rousseau, will attack the small nearby villages of the city of Grunstadt with your troop and take them under your control. There we will build a strong position. Here is the map, look carefully. These villages are very close to the city of Grunstadt and all the caravans going into the city pass from here, especially the trade caravans. You will loot those caravans on the way and take the people as prisoners, so that in exchange for those prisoners we can deal with the German empire. And whatever loot we get, you will send it here, with which we will prepare for a big war. You will have to face the German empire army in all these villages but according to the information I received, there is not much German empire army here. You will easily complete your task. And the second thing, I will write a letter to King Louis Alphonse in which I will inform him of the whole situation. Then until his reply comes we will have to wait because right now we cannot do a full attack on the city of Grunstadt.”

All this was being heard by Reynold i.e. (Leon Klaus) sitting in the court and he said:

“General Godfrey, what if the German Empire sends its army to free the villages from us?”

Hearing this Godfrey said:

“We will threaten them, if they attack us then we will kill all the prisoners and villagers. And I don’t think after this the German empire King will want to send his army and fight us. Don’t worry Reynold, I have planned everything. We will succeed in our mission.”

Then Godfrey said to Vanillat Rousseau:

“Go and complete your preparation. In a little while you have to depart towards the villages.”

Hearing this Vanillat Rousseau said:

“As you order, my General.”

Now the scene shifts to Nuremberg, where Erich is sitting in his room writing a letter. That letter was to none other than his teacher, the head master of The Imperial Academy of Regensburg, Konrad Harshal.

In fact, no one knows Konrad Harshal as the head of the spy agency, not even his name. But as the head master of The Imperial Academy of Regensburg, everyone knows him. But they do not know that he is actually the head of the spy agency. Only King Fredrick knows this.

In his letter, Erich asked Konrad Harshal to come to Nuremberg, so that he could know the answers to the questions running in his mind.

On the other side in Castle Falkin, Reynold i.e. (Leon Klaus) came out of the iron hall and started searching for Hans Adler, so that he could inform him about Godfrey’s plan. Reynold i.e. (Leon Klaus) walked a little ahead and bumped into a man.

That man was none other than Hans Adler himself. Leon Klaus cleverly gave a letter to Hans Adler and said:

“Brother, can’t you walk carefully?”

On this Hans Adler said:

“I was walking carefully, you bumped into me. Leave it, I have to go to my work.”

Reynold i.e. (Leon Klaus) said:

“Alright, you go to your work. I also have to go to my work.”

Then he went to Vanillat Rousseau, who was about to leave for the villages to attack. When Vanillat Rousseau saw Reynold i.e. (Leon Klaus), he said:

“The time is not far when we will take revenge from the Germans for the attack done on us. You be assured and rest, this work is like killing an ant for me.”

Reynold i.e. (Leon Klaus) said:

“Of course, I believe you will succeed in your mission. I also wanted to come with you but General Godfrey stopped me. Now you go, it’s getting late.”

Then Vanillat Rousseau left from there.

On the other side Hans Adler, the letter which Leon Klaus had given him, he had sent it to his spy companions who were outside Castle Falkin, through a pigeon.

Now the scene shifts to The Royal Fortress of Nuremberg, where the delegation had returned that went to another empires carrying the message of alliance. King Fredrick had told all of them to rest and ordered them to come to the court in the evening. The day was setting, evening was about to fall. King Fredrick was strolling in the garden of The Royal Fortress of Nuremberg.

Then Prime Minister Matthias comes to King Fredrick and says:

“King, all the preparations in the court have been completed and all the courtiers are waiting for you.”

King Fredrick says:

“Very well, let us go now.”

After some time King Fredrick enters the court. All the courtiers greet him, then King Fredrick sits on his throne and tells all the courtiers to take their seats.

First of all, Royal Adviser Helmrich Kessler speaks:

“My King, today we are all very eager to know what good news our respected brother Michaels Kruger has brought for us.”

King Fredrick says:

“Of course, Michaels Kruger, you may begin and tell us what the good news is.”

Michaels Kruger stands up and says:

“My King, I am very grateful to you for granting me such honor. I do have good news for you all, but there is also something which is necessary for us all to consider. First, let me give you the good news: the delegation that went to Austria, Poland, and Denmark has brought back good news that Austria, Poland, and Denmark have agreed to make an alliance with us and are also ready to provide us reinforcement.”

Upon this, King Fredrick and all the courtiers are filled with joy. King Fredrick congratulates everyone and says:

“At last, now we are not alone in this war. The French Kingdom will have to pay for all the cruelties they have committed.”

Then King Fredrick asks the Foreigner Minister Michaels Kruger:

“Did the kings of all these countries not put any condition for the alliance?”

Upon this, Michaels Kruger says:

“Yes, they certainly did. They made some trade and defense agreements, and all those agreements have been made thoughtfully, from which both they and the German Empire will benefit. Here are the documents of those agreements.”

King Fredrick reads those documents carefully and then says:

“Yes indeed, you made the right decision. After all, since we are in war, such a decision had to be made for the sake of unity.”

Royal Adviser Helmrich Kessler says:

“King, may we know what this agreement is?”

“Of course, you all have the right to know,” King Fredrick says. Then he orders Michaels Kruger to read the agreement aloud before everyone.

Michaels Kruger reads the agreement to all the courtiers:

From Austria, Poland, and Denmark, the traders who will come to German empire for trade, their safety will be the responsibility of the German Empire so that no one robs them on the way. If such happens, then the German Empire will have to capture and punish those people. Secondly, the traders from all these countries will pay half tax, and they will be allowed to sell goods in the market at their own chosen price. And if a trade caravan from the German Empire goes to these countries, then German traders will also pay half tax, but they will have to sell goods according to the prices fixed there.

Now comes the defense agreement: As we are at war today and they will help us, in the same way, we will have to help them if any country attacks them. The agreement will break if either side violates the agreement, then the agreement will come to an end.

Hearing this, Prime Minister Matthias says:

“This agreement seems reasonable, but will not our traders raise questions that they are not allowed to sell goods at their own chosen price?”

Royal Adviser Helmrich Kessler says:

“You are right, Honorable Prime Minister, but since we are in a state of war, this matter must be accepted.”

Upon this, Michaels Kruger says:

“You both are right in your own places, but our traders will have to pay only half tax, so they will accept it. And the prices upon which I agreed in the agreement are reasonable. Do not worry, I and my team have made this decision thoughtfully.”

King Fredrick says:

“Yes indeed, we have trust in you. But you have not yet told the matter upon which we need to ponder. And did we make the agreement with Hungarian empire or not? What condition did the King of Hungarian empire King put?”

Upon this, Michaels Kruger says:

“Yes, my King, certainly. The condition that the King of Hungarian has put is the very matter upon which it is necessary to ponder.”

King Fredrick says:

“Now tell me what that matter is?”

Michaels Kruger says:

“The King of Hungarian empire has put the condition for alliance with the German Empire that Princess Adeline’s hand be given to him. He wants you to marry Princess Adeline to him, then he will make an alliance with the German Empire. And he has also given the threat that if you do not do so, he will support the French Kingdom in this war. This is the matter, King, on which we have to think carefully.”

Hearing this, King Fredrick becomes angry and says:

“How dare he demand the hand of my daughter! He is seeing that we are in a weak state and wants to take advantage of it. But this will not happen!”

Upon this, Royal Adviser Helmrich Kessler says:

“My King, you must think calmly over this matter because the future of our empire depends on this decision. If you see, Hungarian empire is very large. Its borders stretch from the German Empire to Romania. If the German Empire and the Hungarian Empire unite…”

“Then we will become very strong and powerful, and you will also get an heir for the German Empire.”

But King Fredrick says:

“You do not know that he has already fought a war with us before, and beyond that, that man’s character is also not good. Would any father give his daughter’s hand to such a man?”

Upon this, Prime Minister Matthias says:

“You are right, King, but we must definitely consider this matter. If on one side the French Kingdom and on the other side Hungarian empire both attack us, then it will be a great difficulty for us. Who knows, the German Empire might also come to an end.”

Upon this, King Fredrick says:

“I know all of this, now I myself will have to take this decision. You all may go now, I will very soon tell you my decision.”

What will be King Fredrick’s decision?
