The sun had barely risen, and yet I was already awake, dressed, and pacing my office. My packhouse was quiet, the kind of silence that used to calm me. Now, it only made my thoughts louder.
Katherine was still asleep in her room. She was calm and obedient. Just like she had been the last few days.
I should’ve felt at ease. But I didn’t.
Because Kieran still existed.
And as long as he was out there—walking around with her name still in his heart—my victory wasn’t complete.
I clenched my jaw and stared out the window. The trees swayed in the breeze. The sky was soft blue and peaceful. But I didn’t feel at peace.
