Year 2017 Atlas woke up to the shrill sound of her alarm, the blaring tone signaling the start of another long shift at the hospital. She groaned in irritation, rubbing the sleep from her eyes as she reluctantly dragged herself out of bed. It was just past five o’clock in the morning, the first light of dawn filtering through her curtains. She quickly got dressed in her scrubs, running a hand through her unruly hair as she glanced in the mirror. Atlas hurried through her daily routine, the familiarity of her tasks offering a small sense of comfort. As she walked to the hospital, her mind shifted to work mode.
