CHAPTER 10 : THE RISE OF A QUEEN

601 Words
Chapter 10: The Rise of a Queen Elena had spent her life adapting, surviving. But this—this was different. Abina’s world was built on power, loyalty, and fear. And if she wanted to survive in it, she couldn’t just be the woman at his side. She had to become something more. Something dangerous. --- Listening, Watching, Learning For the next few days, Elena played the role of the quiet, dutiful wife. She listened when the men spoke. She observed their power plays, the shifting alliances, the way fear shaped loyalty. She noticed which of Abina’s men respected him and which only obeyed out of necessity. She saw the silent tension between his top advisors, the glances exchanged when they thought no one was looking. And most importantly—she realized how little they thought of her. She was just the wife. A pawn. A liability. They underestimated her. And that was their first mistake. --- The First Move Her opportunity came sooner than expected. One evening, as Abina prepared for a meeting with his most trusted men, she overheard a name—Luis Alvarez. A cartel leader. Unpredictable. Dangerous. And according to the hushed whispers outside the study, a man who had been secretly siphoning money from Abina’s operations for months. The problem? No one had proof. And accusing a man like Luis without evidence was suicide. Elena sat in the corner of the room, pretending to read, her fingers tightening around the book in her lap. This is it. She stood, smoothing her dress, and stepped toward Abina. “You need proof?” she murmured, her voice careful. Calculated. The conversation around the room halted. Abina turned, his dark gaze locking onto hers. “And what do you know about getting proof, mi amor?” She tilted her head, holding his gaze. “I know men like him. They hide their sins in plain sight. And I know exactly where to look.” His men shifted, exchanging wary glances. One of them, a tall, broad-shouldered man named Hector, scoffed. “With all due respect, señor, your wife is—” Abina held up a hand, silencing him instantly. Then, to Elena, he murmured, “And where would you look, cariño?” A test. She met his gaze and smiled. “His books. Not the real ones—the fake ones. A man like Luis is too smart to leave a trail in official records, but his mistakes will be hidden in the inconsistencies.” A flicker of something—amusement? Respect?—flashed in Abina’s eyes. Then, slowly, he leaned back in his chair. “Find me proof,” he said, voice low, dangerous. “And Luis Alvarez will learn what it means to steal from me.” Elena’s heart pounded. This was it. Her first step toward power. --- A Dangerous Obsession Abina watched as Elena left the room, his fingers tapping against the desk. His men were skeptical. But he wasn’t. She had been watching. Calculating. Learning. And that did something to him. This wasn’t just the woman he had claimed as his wife. This was a woman who could match him. A slow, dangerous smile curled his lips. He had always wanted control. Always wanted obedience. But this? Watching her step into his world, watching her thrive in it? It was intoxicating. And he realized something then—something dangerous. He had married Elena as a business move. A contract. A way to solve a problem. But now? Now he wanted her in ways he couldn’t control. Now he was obsessed. --- End of Chapter 10
