Damien;
I blinked rapidly and faced the crowd, a smile on my face
"I promise you all that I will present you all with my Luna in due time," I finally found my voice and I glanced back at the crowd. There was no sign of her and Raf whimpered.
"We will convene here in a week's time to welcome the new Luna," I announced, earning cheers from the crowd.
"Lastly, I'm sure there are some people who are against me being Alpha here. I am sorry, but you know the punishment for treachery and I promise, I won't be merciful to traitors," I said firmly.
I know that most of the people in the room with smiling faces were plotting my downfall, they were very loyal to my father and his ways and would prefer Adrian, my stepbrother to be Alpha. But they would have to contend with me! And that was why I couldn't afford to have a single weakness.
The crowds murmured their agreement.
"The night is just starting, let the merriment begin!" I announced and the crowd cheered.
I strolled to meet my mother, she was chatting excitedly with a few women.
"Here comes the Alpha."
I spun around to see those familiar big brown eyes.
"You remember Vivian right?" My mother joined us.
"Of course, How are you doing Viv ?" I smiled, noting how she had changed.
Hearing her nickname from my lips, she broke into a wide grin, her eyes twinkling with excitement.
Vivian was my childhood friend, but after I left for England, I hadn't heard from her. Although I was sure she had tried to reach out, I made sure that nobody from Redvine except my mother would be able to reach me.
"I'm fine!" She said with a smile plastered to her face as she stretched out her hand.
I took her hand and shook it. I tried to pull my hand away, but she tightened her grip, caressing my palm with her perfectly manicured finger.
She smiled as she pulled her hand away, winking suggestively at me.
Just like the other women in the room, she was dressed scantily in a very short V-necked dress that was pulled down to reveal more of her cleavage that was already on display.
I smiled back at her, but I was disgusted. I whispered to my mother that I was going to rest as I was weary from my journey.
"Go, I'll tend to the guests," she nodded at me and I thanked her as I briskly walked out of the ballroom, avoiding most of the elders whose intentions were to introduce me to their unmated daughters. They were all hoping that their daughters would be the lucky ones.
I made my way to the main house and met Liam by the pool, smoking.
"Hey man, how do you feel now?" He questioned as soon as he saw me and I sighed, raking a hand through my hair in frustration.
"Not good!" I finally breathed out and he
glanced at me intently.
"You didn't tell her?"
I shook my head and he sighed, puffing out a smoke.
"It's not just the ache."
"What happened?" He passed me the cigar and I shook my head.
"Women problem?" He chuckled as he took another drag of the cigar.
"I think I know why I'm feeling such pain," I revealed and he sharply turned to me, realizing I was serious.
Liam has been my friend since we were children and he was one of the people I trusted. I knew I could tell him anything.
"I think it's the mate bond," I admitted and he grinned widely, patting my back.
I glared at him and he quickly removed his hand.
"I'm sorry, Alpha," he said with a smile.
"Now you'd be freed from all these women, see how they're dressed," he chuckled, shaking his head and then he stopped as he noticed that I wasn't smiling.
"It's a thing of joy! So who is the lucky woman?" He questioned, sending me a wink which I ignored.
"That's the problem," I collected the cigar from him and took a long drag.
"How is that a problem? She's human?" He furrowed his brows.
It wasn't uncommon to have a human as one's mate, but for me, an Alpha,it would be considered an abomination.
"I'm not sure," I breathed out.
I still wasn't sure about her. She didn't seem like an Omega, yet she seemed like a wolf, and from her status, as I wolf, I knew that she wasn't a high-ranked wolf. But whatever wolf she was, I couldn't be with her.
Raf growled excitedly and I realized that it was that smell again. Jasmine and vanilla!
"What do you mean you are not—" Liam was saying something but my attention was already diverted.
I spun around and began to walk briskly towards the direction of the scent, leaving Liam bewildered.
"Al—Alpha-"
Raf growled again and I felt him dominate my body as I felt the pain that came with bones cracking and cells reforming. Within a minute, he had completely transformed.
I could stop it, but for some reason, I did not and he began to run, excitement coursing through his veins.
I noticed that he was running in the direction of the smell. Raf was going to meet her. I had to stop him before he did something he shouldn't have done.
"We are not going to see her," I said to him and he growled stubbornly.
"You can't stop me," he sped up and I sighed.
Goddamn wolf!
The scent was coming from the main house and I entered inside. The guards recognized my wolf as they bowed when I walked past. I stopped in front of my father's room, it would now be my room as the room was meant for the Alphas.
The scent from the room was overwhelming and I realized that she was inside. Raf wanted to go in, but I stopped him, turning back before opening the door.
She was so engrossed in one of the paintings that she didn't notice me entering the room. I wanted to turn back as I was naked, but the u
rge to hold her was so strong that I couldn't resist.
