“U-urgh…”
Seth woke up with a mild headache as he slowly opened his eyes.
The first thing he saw was the hung hope on a ceiling. He subconsciously searched his memories for the vague recollections he had of this place.
It took him a few seconds to figure it out.
“This is where I live, huh…? It’s been so long, I forgot.”
Seth rose from the hard floor and cast another glance at the dangling rope above him.
‘So that’s how I died, huh? What kind of weakling was I?’
Only a fool would take their own life in the face of adversity—that was Seth’s current disposition.
He didn’t really remember why he had chosen to end his own life, but the current him would never do it in the face of anything.
‘Why would I let those six have pleasure over my corpse? No… I won’t be dying until I get my dues…’
He found himself chuckling to himself—a habit he formed while he was still in Hell.
The only way he could cope while undergoing his sufferings was to imagine what he would do to the ones who tormented him.
‘And now that I’m finally free of them, I can start preparing to that effect.’
Seth chuckled even more.
He looked around his room and found it to be a serious mess. It was a small, cramped up space, so Seth could already tell that he wasn’t very buoyant before he died.
Little pieces of information were beginning to form in his head, and he let the memories flow.
‘I see. I worked for… the Dark Angels Guild… as an office clerk.’
Seth began to remember everything.
He had made a mistake and fell for a scam during the course of his business, costing the company a lot of money.
Well, it was a lot of money to Seth, but he knew the company wouldn’t even feel something like that.
Ever since then, he had been under the heavy weight of crippling debt. His salary was used to pay for the debts while he was only given a small fraction so he could work more.
Interests accrued, and Seth had found himself in an inescapable rat race.
He was doomed to keep working for the company until he died—completely as an impoverished salaryman.
‘Oof… sounds rough, buddy!’ Rey told himself.
He must have killed himself after spending years in such a trap.
‘I feel your pain. I would have killed myself if I could back then. The first few years are the worst…’
But after that, all of that pain and fear would transform into something far more powerful.
Hatred!
‘The ones to blame are the scammers. Not you—I mean, me…’
Seth honestly felt like the past version of him and the current one were two different entities.
He had taken on the body he had in hell, and a lot about his body was different from the few portraits of himself he was seeing around the room.
‘I should take a thorough look around and find everything related to my past as possible.’
It wasn’t a very large apartment, so Seth didn’t think he would take very long.
‘Let’s begin.’
*********
After an hour, Seth was completely done with searching even the tiniest crevices of his apartment.
The apartment only had a room, with a bathroom and kitchen attached.
It was a poor living condition, but Seth didn’t really mind being in such a cramped space.
‘At least there’s a bed. The convenience of modernity is nice too…’
He was currently on his crooked bed, his n***d body’s weight causing the old furniture to creak.
It felt like the thing would break at any second.
‘I’ve forgotten about this level of comfort.’ He smiled regardless.
Seth couldn’t forget how he slept back in hell.
The hot, hard ground that made him like he was being cooked alive was only the surface.
Sometimes he would wake up mid-sleep and find himself in a literal vat of lava.
“Good times. Good times…”
Seth reminisced on his early days—or rather, years—of training.
He honestly couldn’t remember much about how he felt back then, especially with how he currently was, but he knew the Six Generals were the villains.
And he would have to mete out punishment to them.
“But I’m currently too weak for that. There’s a lot I need to do before I can even think of getting payback…”
Even though he would have loved to rip apart their flesh, Seth knew they would tear him to pieces a billion times over before he could even land a hit.
They were that strong!
“I was only able to come here because I reached the bare minimum requirement—according to them.”
He had also reached his peak performance as a Level 1 Mortal.
To train even further would have been pointless.
“Now that I’m back on Earth, I’ll have to get stronger on my own…”
Seth went over what he was told by the King of Hell—his boss.
One of the most important things was the ‘System’ aide.
“System… you there?”
There was no response.
‘I see. So it’s not one of those interactive System interfaces, huh?’
It was a bummer, but Seth wasn’t about to be let down simply by that.
“Maybe if I say ‘Status Window’, it’ll pop up or somethi—”
Before Seth could complete his mumbling, a buzzing sound echoed in the room.
A crimson translucent window popped out of thin air, and written texts were displayed on it.
[Greetings, Host]
{I am the Hell System, designed by the Supreme Lord of Hell to assist you on your journey}
As soon as Seth saw this, he didn’t hesitate to say “Yes!”
The result was a buzzing from the System, with more texts appearing on the crimson window.
[System Guide]
{You are Seth Forsyte, the weirder of the Hell System. As a Harbinger, you are allowed to have one special ability called a ‘Gift’ given from the one you represent. I am that Gift. The Hell System grants you a quality that only you possess.}
Seth knew all about Gifts.
Harbingers in this world all had Gifts given to them from the Heavenly Realm, and they all had crazy powers.
Compared to the flashy abilities that everyone else possessed, Seth’s Gift seemed to be pretty one-note.
However, anyone with enough sense could see it’s immense potential
Seth was one of such people.
“Hehehehe… hehehehe… hahahaha!”
If it was like this, then it didn’t matter the kind of Gifts everyone else possessed.
As long as he worked his a*s off, he could grow beyond them.
“This is perfect!” He grinned.
There was nothing he was better at than endlessly grinding and working till death
His employers on Earth and the Six Generals had both testified to this.
Seth was confident in his ability to use this Gift to its full potential.
“When do I get started?”
