Chapter 7 No light illuminated Jay’s windows. After the evening they’d shared, he might be anywhere. Hard to imagine Jay would want to see anyone, but the possibility existed Jay might not be at home. If Jay had given up on the day, he may well have gone to bed, or he sat brooding or working in a dimly lit room. The one person he might pop over to visit was his sister. Wonderful. The two of them bitching about him. Dean never got enough of that. Uncertain what to do next, he performed a swift self-check, amused doing so. Hunched shoulders. Compressed lips. A sudden urge to be alone. Unkind thoughts. All this spoke of resentment, his first instinct to walk away, to give up trying. Screw that.
