Chapter 38

Chicago

Now we are in Chicago and ready for nationals since tomorrow is nationals and we have to be ready for everything especially we got the first slot and it's kinda death slot.

But now we are in our hotel room even though we already ready for having rehearsal but Mercedes is laying her body on the bed and get sick.

"What's going on? How bad is it?" Mr. Schue walks in.

"Her temperature's 101 degrees. Given the fact that Weezy's complaining about an upset stomach, it's either Amazonian dengue fever or the H1N1 super virus." Coach Sylvester says to him.

"Or I have food poisoning." Mercedes says weakly.

"We all wanted burritos for lunch, so we went to Chipotle, but Mercedes tried some dive called Seashora Salsation." Santana says to Mr. Schue.

"Will, word, please." Coach Sylvester says and walk little bit further with Mr. Schue.

"Here drink this warm milk." I give the glass of warm milk to Mercedes.

Mercedes sit up a bit and drink that warm milk. "I never get food poisoning before but I remember when my stomach hurt, my dad give me warm milk." I said to her.

"So here's what's gonna happen: Mercedes, you're on bed rest, Quinn, you're stepping in." Mr. Schue says to us.

"No, no, no, I can't dance that number. I can't sing it, either, not like..." Quinn shakes her head.

"The Troubletones need you." Mr. Schue cut her off.

"And you're better than you think you are." Tina says to her.

"Tina, you, too. You're in the Troubletones." Mr. Schue says to Tina.

"Mr. Schue, this is my last competition. I don't want to miss it." Mercedes says weakly.

"Amen, to that, sister. That's why I'm putting you on a vitamin B-12 drip. We're flushing your system with Pedialyte, and I'm gonna fill that bathtub with ice and see if we can't get your ambient body temperature back down to normal. Worked in Jacob's Ladder." Coach Sylvester says and take a silver tube then walk away.

"All right, we all have our marching orders.

Let's do it. Girls, go back to rehearsal after Sue back here okay." Mr. Schue says to us then walk off.

"How the hell I can perform in Troubletones when my feet is still like this?" Quinn sighs.

"You can do that." Sugar says to Quinn.

"Yes, you can." I nodded as agree.

"Where is Hobbit?" Santana frowns.

"Possibly having her rehearsal alone. I dont know." I shrug.

"Or maybe teasing Finn." Tina smirks at me.

We just smiling at each other. Yeah this is my last competition and I just want to win and feel how it feels to be the nationals champion for my one last week in McKinley.

"I.Am.Tired.As.Hell." I mumbled as I do the choreography.

We've been rehearsing for three hours straight since the lunch time. It's really sucks actually. I'm tired and I guess everyone is also tired.

My feet slide down and I fall to the ground. "Babe, you okay? Did I kick you or something?" Finn asks me.

"No, it's my bad." I shake my head.

Finn shows me his hand and help me to stand up and then we both start our choreography again. Since Finn and I will lead the duet so we have our own choreography for the lead.

Suddenly Puck and Sam fights and trying to hit each other. Mike holds Sam's body but they was really hard to be stops.

"Fights! Fights! Fights!" Sugar yelled.

"Hey, hey stop it!" Quinn yelled to stop them but it doesnt work.

"Hey, calm down! Hey, hey, calm down! Calm down!" Mr. Schue walks in.

"Fight, fight, fight!" Sugar shouts.

"Hey, cool out!" Mr. Schue stops them and they finally stop fighting.

"He's studying for geography while we're trying to rehearse! It's bogus!" Sam says angrily.

"Cause I already know the dance! You dance like you got your feet caught in bear traps. You're trying to gnaw them off." Puck protest.

"Mr. Schue, are you aware that while we're arguing about jazz squares, Unique is being handed the key to the city by Rahm Emanuel?" Kurt says as he look at his phone.

"And plus my pillow and my blanket fell into the pool. Disaster." Brittany says to us.

"Look, I think everybody is just a little tired.

We've been rehearsing for three straight hours." Artie says to us.

"Yeah, and we'll rehearse all night if we have to. We can rest after we've won!" Finn says to them.

"Just because we've lost Mercedes doesn't mean we can be anything less than perfect.

Perfect!" Rachel says excitedly.

"That's easy for you to say." Artie protest.

Everyone start arguing again. I let out a sigh and sit down on the table and spread my legs. I'm tired and they must be also tired.

"Okay, you know what? You know what? Hey!" Santana stops them. "I don't want to hear any of this, We can't do it without her, because guess what? We don't have a choice. So be warned: if you are not giving this everything you've got, I will go all Lima Heights on your sorry asses." Santana yelled at us.

"Listen to yourselves." Mr. Schue says to her.

"I know. I'm sorry. I always go to the yelling place. I have rage." Santana sighs.

"No, it's a good thing. A great thing. There is so much passion in this room Even all your arguing, it's about the work. You guys really want this. Okay, so let's take a half-hour break, and then we'll run it from the top." Mr. Schue says to us.

"Mr. Schue, is it okay if we keep going? We got the first slot, which is, like, the death slot. We have to be amazing." Tina says to Mr. Schue.

"Yeah, Edge of Glory's a b***h. I said I'd be dancing by nationals. I'll be damned if I don't." Quinn says.

"Okay, then let's keep going. Mike, help the guys out with the choreography. Artie, help Puck with his geography. Ladies, Edge of Glory. Come on. Brittany, run us through it." Mr. Schue says to us.

"From the chorus?" Brittany asks.

"Yeah, from the chorus." Mr. Schue nodded.

"Come on, we have to continue the rehearsal." Finn says to me.

"I'm tired, Finn. Give me a break okay." I sigh and lay my body on this long table.

"Hey, you wanna go out with me this evening for a dinner maybe?" Finn asks me.

I frown and sit up. "Like on a date?"

"Look, last nationals we had a date with two different people when actually that night you were super beautiful and now I dont wanna miss a chance or anything. I want to have a date with you in special place in Chicago." Finn says to me.

"Sure. I'd love to." I smile at Finn.

"Okay so dress nice and meet me accros the hotel at 6pm." Finn smiles back at me.

I went out from the bathroom and looking at myself from the vanity table. Red dress, grey long cardigan, black stockings, and black ankle boots. I'm ready to have a date with Finn tonight.

"Looking good, girl." Tina chuckles.

"Yeah Finn asks me to go out with him and have a dinner." I giggle.

"If I'm not mistaken, last nationals you also went out to had a date with Trouty." Santana says to me.

"Yeah but tonight, I'm going out with my boyfriend." I said to her. I turn my face at the clock and it's already 6 o'clock. I take my handbag then put my money also my phone inside. "Alright see you guys." I wave them a goodbye and went out from my hotel room.

I turn my way to the lift and enter the lift. I'm little bit curious about the place Finn going to bring me actually since I didnt really much know about Chicago.

I went out from the lift then walk in the lobby. Tomorrow the parents will come to watch the performance of their children. And I cant wait for that.

I went out from the hotel then walk accross the street. And waiting for Finn in front of a coffeeshop. It's already evening but the street is full crowded and the wind start blowing and make my hair dancing through it.

I turn my face and Finn is smiling at me. He wear his black suit and tie with holding a bouquet of flowers then accross the road and walk closer to me.

"Hi." I smile shyly at him.

"You look really beautiful." Finn smiles back at me. "For you." Finn give me that flowers.

"Thank you." I smile at him.

Finn just smiling at me then move my hair to behind my earlobe and cup my cheek then kisses me softly. I just can kiss him back and we smiling at each other after share our kisses.

"Come on, I already book a place." Finn says to me.

I hold his elbow with my right hand as we walk together in this street. "Where are we going to?" I ask him.

"A special place. Since we never have an actual date or formal date so this time is the right one." Finn says to me.

"Finn, seriously dont make me curious."

"You'll know, baby. It's not really far from our hotel. I already googled it." Finn simply said.

"Okay." I nodded and keep walking with him.

Finn and I keep walking together until he stops his way in front of a restaurant with classy design and I bet that food there is kinda expensive.

"Come on." Finn says and we walk enter that restaurant. "Reservation for Finn Hudson." Finn says to the greeter.

"Welcome. Right here." The greeter smiles at us and walk lead us to our table.

I look around and this restauran seems fancy and cool one but I can make sure this is such an expensive one.

The greeter give us menus then walk off. I open the menu and look at the menu. I gasped when I look at the price. I kick Finn's feet and make him turn his face at me.

"You've got to be kidding me. This is four stars restaurant and the price is expensive." I said quietly.

"Dont worry, I'll pay. I have money. Just choose what you want okay." Finn says to me.

"I'd rather but hotdog from the food truck outside than have dinner here." I roll my eyes.

Finn called a waitress and she come to us. "Are you ready to order?" She asks us.

"Umm I want beef lasagna and a diet coke also french fries." Finn says to the waitress. "What do you want, babe?" Finn asks me.

"Spaghetti carbonara and a diet coke too." I said.

"Do you want extra cheese for the carbonara? Or the lasagna?" The waitress asks us.

"Umm n..." I got cut off.

"Yes. My girlfriend really loves cheese." Finn giggles.

"Alright. Your order will be ready immediately." The waitress smiles at us then walk off.

"Finn, I'm curious, who is the person that you just rob?" I frown at Finn.

"Nobody." Finn says innocently.

"And you have money to pay that food? I even choose the cheapest one." I roll my eyes.

"I have. Yesterday before we went to Chicago, Burt give me my salary for working in the shop and I will use that money for our date since you are going to be my future wife so I'll take the responsibility." Finn smiles at me and hold my hands.

"Really? You can just buy me hotdog from the food truck outside." I giggle.

"I want to make it tonight special." Finn says to me.

"I though you wanna use our money for summer holiday." I said to Finn.

"I gave that money to Rick Nelson." Finn simply said.

"What? Are you nuts? That money is from our babysitting. That's 500 bucks, Finn." I sigh.

"Babe, calm down. We bet. If we win nationals we will get 1000 bucks. Dont worry." Finn says to me.

"But we lost 500 bucks if we lose." I grunt.

"We will win nationals. Trust me. We are gonna be amazing up there. You're my shining star and I want you to believe that we are gonna win this thing. You and I gonna win." Finn holds my hand. "No one can stop us. We will make our parents proud and just stop thinking about that. Just make tonight posibble." Finn smiles at me.

"We both pay for the food here okay." I said to him.

"Okay, I know that you're such kind of hard to persuade one sure." Finn sighs.

Our food is finally coming. Finn leave my hand and we turn our face to our food. I'm hungry actually but it's okay since we both will pay this restaurant together.

"Tonight is the best simple date ever. Even though at first we are kinda having argue about who will pay the restaurant but it become really perfect now." I giggle.

"I know that. When we were in New York, I saw you went out from your room about to went out with Sam. I looked fine but do you know what's on my mind that time?" Finn says to me.

"What?" I raise my eyebrows at him.

"I want to kidnap you and not letting you go out with him but I cant do that. Then when I showed you that song and you though it was for Rachel, I really wanted to scream out loud in front of your face and make you understand that wasnt for her. And if she wasnt kiss me first, Rachel and I wouldnt go back together." Finn says.

"But here we are. Together. In Chicago. And having our dates. Past is in the past, Finn. Just screw that. You cant regret the things you did." I said to him.

"I'm so lucky to have you in my life." Finn kisses my head. "We better back to the hotel." Finn says to me.

"Yeah sure." I nodded as agree.

Suddenly a phone is ringing. We stop our way and Finn take his phone from his suit pocket and read a text.

"Puck said that they having something to talk about." Finn says.

"What about?" I frown.

"I dont know. Nationals, maybe." Finn shrugs.

"Okay, just go back to the hotel." I nodded.

Today is the show day. I already get dressed with my red dress and my black shoes. I'm standing outside the building and look around. I'm waiting for my dad and the others.

"Babe, what are you doing here?" Finn standing next to me.

"I'm waiting for my dad." I answer.

"But they already got in." Finn simply said.

"And why you didnt tell me?" I roll my eyes.

"I just told you." Finn says innocently. "Come on, you really look beautiful today." Finn smiles at me.

Finn smiles at me and give a quick kiss on my lips. He then put his hand around my shoulder and we walk back to.that theater. I turn my face. I see Rachel is talking with that Jesse guy. Wow that's great.

We then enter the theater and walk to the backstage. The shows will be begin and we got the first slot which is a death slot ever. Rachel is finally walks in and I look at her face and she seems a bit nervous.

"All right, gather around, everyone!" Mr. Schue says to us. We gather around and make a circle. "I just want to say a few words before we go out there."

"Hold on, Mr. Schue. Hold on. You've given us a lot of pep talks over the years, but remember, you told us once that, you know, a teacher's job is done when his students don't need him anymore?" Finn says to Mr. Schue.

"Okay. Finn, the floor is yours." Mr. Schue says to Finn.

"Last night we all sat around in a circle after you went to bed and we told stories.

But then we went around the room, and everybody said what they wanted to win this thing for, and we all said the same thing: we want to win this for you." Finn says

"Yeah." We nodded agree.

"And I know every year at school Figgins gives away the Teacher of the Year award.

But I don't think any of us have to wait to see how we feel about that. You're, like, our Teacher of a Lifetime." Finn smiles at him.

"Yeah, definitely." Sam chuckles.

"Thank you, Finn, all of you. I love you guys so much." Mr. Schue smiles at us.

"New Directions, line up."

"All right, that's it. Show time. Hands in, everyone." Mr. Schue says to us.

"Now I know you weren't planning on doing the show circle without me. Weezy?" Mercedes walks in with her dress and shoes.

"You're alive!" Tina says excitedly.

"Yeah, thanks to Sue. She's a miracle worker." Mercedes chuckles.

"Oh, well, it's amazing what a little TLC, some cortisone and a witch doctor will do." Coach Sylvester says proudly.

"Thank God you're okay because that just means I'm not gonna fall on my face during that Troubletones number." Quinn says.

"Oh, screw that. This is our last time performing together. You're doing it, and so you are you, Tina. I'm not taking no for an answer. Plus I have so many steroids going through my body right now, I may turn into the Incredible Hulk if you piss me off." Mercedes chuckles.

"Okay, if we don't get out of this room soon, none of us will be performing." Mr. Schue says to us.

I turn my face at Rachel and she look nervous. Carmen Tibideaux isnt coming yet and I guess she is afraid. I walk closer to her and smile at her.

This time is her solo. She want to sing this solo and show Carmen Tibideaux that she can get into NYADA and get the MVP Awards.

The music begin and the light on again. The others start singing back up as Finn walk out from the backstage and we are start singing.

We ended up our song with full of clapping from the audience and standing ovation. I turn my face to the parents seat and they are cheering happily. Even my dad whooping and whistle out loud.

Finn and I look at each other and hi-five and smiling at each other. This is really the best thing ever and I'm sure we kill this.

"I really mean it. Seriously. I was imagine that I sang that song in front of you. That's it." Finn holds my hand.

"Aww that's sweet. You already swore so you have to love me until the end of the time." I grin at him.

"I will." Finn smiles back at me then kisses me softly.

"Ewww get a room." Kurt protest.

I roll my eyes and stop kissing Finn. We then turn our face to the stage and watching the performance from the other contestant.

"Please welcome to the stage from Carmel High in Akron, Ohio, Vocal Adrenaline!"

The music start begin and Vocal Adrenaline performing on the stage and I gasped when I see that Unique. She/he just like sashay. Vocal Adrenaline sing Starships by Nicki Minaj and it's kinda cool actually.

"They're cool." I mumbled.

"We are cooler. We are gonna win this thing. Trust me. We will get our 1000 dollars back." Finn holds my hand.

"What if we dont win?" I raise my eyebrows at Finn.

"I wont let that happen, baby." Finn says.

I just take a deep breath and keep looking at Vocal Adrenaline's performance. I cant do anything. This is really pissed me off. They ended their first song and now the second song is Pinball Wizard and they using props.

"Damn! We should use that space helmet!" I said to Finn.

"That's crazy." Finn rolls his eyes..

"You see that Scale Blazers using roller blade as their props and now Vocal Adrenaline using pinball board as their props." I said to Finn.

"Babe, calm down. The different one must be win." Finn says.

"Oh like your kissing on nationals last year and made us got into twelve places?" I raise my eyebrows.

"Okay stop it." Finn sighs.

I just let out a sigh and turn my face to the stage again. I really hope the best for New Directions. Really the best.

Now it's time for the winner announcement with the top three candidates. I hold Finn's hand really tight and I wish we could win this thing.

"And now it's time to announce the winner of this year's individual show choir MVP award........... From Vocal Arednaline, Carmel High's Wade "Unique" Adams!"

I turn my face at Rachel and she just half-smiled and applauding while looking at the judges give the MVP trophy to Unique.

"And now a round of applause to your top three finalists for this year's National Show Choir Championship. In third place all the way from Oregon the Portland Scale Blazers!"

I'm applauding and smiling as the judges give the trophy to them. I go back to hold Finn's hand and close my eyes. Because I really want to win.

"And now, ladies and gentlemen, quiet, please. Congratulations to both teams standing with us onstage. But not it's time to announce a winner. The 2012 National Show Choir Champions goes to.........McKinley High in Lima, Ohio, The New Directions!!!"

We jumping and cheering together. Papercraft fall down from the ceiling and the judges give us the biggest trophy ever.

I turn my face at my dad and he is screaming happily then hi-five with Burt and whooping for us.

Finn suddenly grabs my body and hug me really tight and swing me through the air. I'm so happy. This is the best day of my life and I can feel my last one week in McKinley as national champs!
