THE MAGIC PEN II: THE FINAL REWRITE
Chapter 1
The Boy Who Dreamed in Ink
The nightmare always began with the sound of pages turning.
Flip...
Flip...
Flip...
Noah Carter opened his eyes.
He wasn't in his bedroom.
He stood inside a library so enormous that he couldn't see where it ended. Endless shelves stretched into darkness, filled with millions of books. Some were ancient and covered in dust. Others looked brand new, as though they had just been written.
Yet not a single person was there.
Only silence.
Then—
A whisper.
"You're late."
Noah spun around.
No one.
The whisper came again.
"Please..."
"...finish my story."
His heartbeat quickened.
"Who's there?"
A cold breeze swept through the library, turning hundreds of pages at once. The sound echoed like thousands of voices speaking together.
Far ahead, a lone figure stood at the end of a long aisle.
He wore a black coat.
His face was hidden beneath the shadows.
As Noah slowly walked closer, he realized something terrifying.
The man's body wasn't made of flesh.
It was made of paper.
Every few seconds, another page tore away from him and floated into the air.
He was disappearing.
The stranger slowly raised his head.
His eyes were tired.
Filled with pain.
"You finally came," he whispered.
Noah frowned.
"Who are you?"
The man smiled sadly.
"My name..."
He paused, as if struggling to remember.
"...used to be Ethan Graves."
Noah froze.
The name felt strangely familiar, though he had never heard it before.
Ethan reached into his coat and pulled out an old leather journal.
"I don't have much time."
He held it out.
"Take this."
Before Noah could reach for it—
A loud c***k echoed through the library.
The shelves began shaking violently.
Books flew from every direction.
The lights went out.
Darkness swallowed everything.
Then came another sound.
Footsteps.
Slow.
Heavy.
Deliberate.
Something enormous was walking between the shelves.
Ethan's expression changed instantly.
"No..."
"It's found us."
A deep laugh echoed through the darkness.
It wasn't the Ink King.
It was older.
Colder.
More powerful.
Words suddenly appeared on the floor beneath Noah's feet.
THE AUTHOR HAS AWAKENED.
The books around them burst open.
Black ink poured from every page, covering the floor like a rising tide.
From the darkness, a gigantic hand made entirely of ink reached toward Noah.
Ethan shoved him backward.
"Wake up!"
The hand was inches away.
"RUN!"
Noah screamed.
He sat upright in bed, gasping for air.
His bedroom was dark.
Rain hammered against the windows.
His alarm clock read:
3:13 A.M.
Again.
For thirty nights in a row.
His breathing slowly settled.
"It was just another dream," he whispered.
Then he noticed something strange.
His hands.
They were covered in fresh black ink.
Noah rushed to the bathroom sink and scrubbed them.
The ink wouldn't come off.
He looked into the mirror.
For a split second...
Someone else was standing behind him.
A man wearing a black coat.
When Noah turned around—
No one was there.
His phone suddenly vibrated.
Unknown Number.
With trembling hands, he answered.
A weak voice spoke from the other end.
"Noah..."
"You don't know me..."
"...but they're rewriting the world again."
The line went dead.
Noah stared at the phone.
It had recorded no call.
No number.
No history.
Nothing.
As he slowly lowered the phone, something caught his eye.
On his study desk lay an old leather journal.
He was certain it hadn't been there before.
On its cover, written in faded silver letters, were two words:
ETHAN GRAVES
Outside, thunder shook the city.
Far beneath the rebuilt public library...
Inside a chamber that had remained sealed for ten years...
A locked iron door slowly creaked open by itself.
And from the darkness beyond came the sound of a single page turning.
