The surveillance flights had gone well; that is to say, there had been no shots fired and no accidents. The planes performed well enough with the added weight and drag of the rockets. Captain Roberts was beginning to exhibit symptoms of anxiety and self-doubt. Nothing was happening. He wanted something to show for the investment. He had put his reputation on the line and was now seeing his promotion fading with the sunset.
