CHAPTER 20:
INCIDENT REPORT
Bella shook when Detective Marco handed her a glass of water from the filter jug in the waiting area. She drank it down quickly. He had brought in police officers who had arrested and charged Jackson with assault. They had taken Bella’s and Mari’s statements. The look on Jackson’s face as he walked out of her office was twisted. Initially, he was cold and icy, as if he wanted to kill her with his eyes, then his eyes had softened. She shuddered thinking about his words, “I never trusted you anyway. You’re all the same.” If only she had referred him on to someone else to begin with. If only Claudia had warned her about his real persona. Not that she ever expected anything from the woman.
