A grave sin
Chapter 1: A grave sin
Grace
“Take her to his room, make sure no one sees you."
The hallway couldn't stay still. The voices echoed around but I couldn't tell where it came from.
Someone had an arm around my waist, steadying me as I stumbled forward. I couldn't see their faces, the music from the party had faded to a distant pulse, and every step felt like the floor was sliding sideways under me.
My limbs felt heavy. My thoughts moved too slowly. I had just one drink, one but my mouth tasted far worse, the walls kept tilting.
"Almost there.” The voice mumbled beside my ear. I still couldn't recognise it.
A door opened. The arm let go of me and I stumbled through, catching myself on the edge of the bed.
The mattress dipped hard under my weight, I laid back, holding my head as the room spinned in circles.
The bathroom door opened with a soft click and steam followed the figure that stepped out.
Ryder knight stood in the middle of the room, a towel wrapped loosely around his waist. His eyes were glassy and unfocused in the exact same way mine felt.
Neither of us spoke. Then he stepped forward and sat beside me, watching.
My throat felt sore. I tried to speak but I couldn't.
The next thing I knew, he hovered over me. The mattress sank deeper under the both of us.
His mouth was on mine instantly, clumsy and urgent, tasting of whiskey. My body answered even while my mind lagged behind, floating just out of reach. He tugged at my clothes. The fabric caught on the soft curve of my stomach and the fuller shape of my thighs as he pushed it up and away.
He didn’t pause. He just kept going—mouth on my neck, hands sliding over skin that felt too warm, too sensitive.
“Wh..what are you doing?" My voice came out softer, vulnerable.
He paused, finally. "I'm going to make you feel better.”
When he settled between my legs the stretch burned. A broken sound left my throat. He groaned into my shoulder and started moving, deep and unsteady, the bed creaking under us. Everything felt too hot and not quite real. Pleasure still built somehow, sharp and confusing, until it broke over me in shaky waves.
His eyes glowed bright red and my wolf cried out, my warm yellow eyes glowing brighter than it ever had. I felt the power surge through me for only a moment then it faded.
He came with a low groan, collapsing against me with a rough breath.
After that the room went soft and dark.
*************
I woke up with a headache that felt like punishment and a body that ached in places it had never ached before.
My vision blurred for a moment as I sat up, looking around.
The sheets were twisted around me, when I shifted, something thickly pulled at the back of my thigh.
I looked down and saw the dark stain on the white fabric—my blood.
Panic hit so hard my vision cleared, I saw everything clearly—the full shape of my bare stomach and hips under the duvet, my clothes scattered on the floor.
“Turn off the lights, I want to sleep." I turned my head to the voice beside me.
My eyes went wide in horror. Ryder knight laid beside me, one arm thrown over his face.
"Argh!” The scream tore out of me before I could stop it.
He jolted out of the bed like he'd been shot, eyes flying wide open. He stared at me with pure confusion that slid straight into horror.
“What the— what the f**k are you doing here?" He looked around, I watched his expression change right after.
He ran a hand through his head, panic flashing through his eyes, he grabbed my hand suddenly. "How did you get in here? You brought you in here?!”
I blinked, horrified. "I don't.. I don't know, you're hurting me!”
He groaned and let me go.
Tears swelled in my eyes as the memories of last night slipped back in.
The voices, my vulnerability, the pleasure I felt, everything.
I stood up and scrambled for my dress, hand shaking so badly the zipper fought me. The fabric stretched across my chest and clung to the soft line of my stomach and hips the way it always did.
For once, I hated how much of me it showed. Ryder was doing the same on his side of the bed, yanking on his jeans, muttering words to himself.
"Did anyone see you come in?” he asked, his voice tight. “The hallway was still full when I left, if someone—"
“If someone saw anything, my reputation will be ruined.” Tears were already rolling down my cheeks. "I don't know how this happened, I don't know what I'll do if this gets out, my father will kill me."
He looked at me, really looked, and the golden boy calm was nowhere in sight. Worry sat naked on his face.
“It was a mistake, I thought you were the girl I was supposed to be with. If I knew, I wouldn't have..”
He stopped, guilt flashed through his face this time. “If Coach finds out I was far gone the night of the championship and ended up here, with you? My scholarship, everything I've worked for, we both go down."
"What should we do?” I asked, my voice shaking.
Silence stretched between us for a moment.
“We make sure no one finds out." He spoke, finally.
A dragged a hand through his hair. “Everybody has secrets, this will be ours."
I nodded, swallowing the lump in my throat. “Okay.” It was a pact made of pure fear but it was the only way to save both our reputations.
I opened the door to leave but stopped as my father's face came into view.
My blood ran cold. For a second, the world simply stopped.
He was in the same cloth he wore after the game last night, his eyes were blood shot, his face carved in something I had never seen in my life.
He pushed his phone in my face, the screen lit up with a video already playing.
Ryder hovering over me, our clothes on the floor and my moans echoing in the background.
The caption underneath was exploding with likes and hashtags.
“Famous hockey captain and pastor's plus-size daughter. Northbridge newest scandal."
#pastor’sdaughter #Northbridgescandal #Viralvideo
I opened my mouth to speak, to explain but my father raised his hand and slapped my mouth shut.
The slap came so fast I didn’t even see it. Pain exploded across my cheek and the force of it sent me stumbling back a step.
The soft weight of my body made the movement clumsy. Tears spilled over instantly.
"What grave sin have you committed, grace?!”
