Chapter 1: The Night He Claimed Me
The Sheikh's Forbidden Claim Chapter 1: The Night He Claimed Me The night I met Sheikh Zayn Al-Rashid, my life changed forever. I had heard stories about him long before I saw his face. People said he was cold, dangerous, rich, and powerful. He was the kind of man who never asked twice and never accepted the word no. But I never believed those stories would become part of my own life. My name is Layla. I was nineteen years old, and I lived in a small village near Agadir with my mother. My life was simple. I helped her at home, worked whenever I could, and dreamed of leaving the village one day to build a better future. I never dreamed of becoming the obsession of a man like him. That evening, the sky was dark, and the wind was unusually strong. I was returning home from the market when I noticed several black cars parked near the entrance of our village. People were standing outside their houses, whispering and watching. "What's happening?" I asked an old woman who lived next door. She looked at me with frightened eyes. "He's here." "Who?" "Sheikh Zayn." My heart skipped a beat. Everyone knew his name. His family owned hotels, land, and businesses across several countries. He rarely visited our village, but when he did, people treated his arrival like the coming of a king. I wanted nothing to do with him. I lowered my head and hurried toward home. But before I could reach our door, a deep male voice stopped me. "You're Layla?" I turned. A tall man stood beside one of the black cars. He wore a perfectly tailored black suit, and his dark hair was neatly styled. His eyes were sharp, almost frightening, and his expression revealed nothing. I immediately knew who he was. Sheikh Zayn. "Yes," I answered cautiously. "Who are you?" One of the men behind him stepped forward, looking offended. "Watch your tongue. You're speaking to Sheikh Zayn Al-Rashid." Zayn raised one hand, and the man immediately became silent. "I asked you a question," Zayn said, looking directly at me. "And I answered." For a moment, nobody spoke. Then, unexpectedly, he smiled. It wasn't a warm smile. It was the kind of smile that made me feel as if he had already discovered a secret about me. "Interesting." I frowned. "What do you want?" "To speak with you." "I have nothing to say to you." I turned away, but his next words made me stop. "Your father left something behind." My blood turned cold. My father had died when I was twelve. My mother rarely spoke about him, and whenever I asked questions, she changed the subject. "What are you talking about?" Zayn stepped closer. "Your father owed my family a debt." I shook my head. "That's impossible." "Is it?" "Whatever he owed you, he's dead. You should speak to my mother." "I already have." My stomach tightened. "What did you do to her?" "Nothing. But she knows exactly why I'm here." I ran toward the house. My mother was standing in the doorway, her face pale and her hands trembling. "Layla," she whispered. "Mom, what's happening? What debt is he talking about?" She looked at Zayn, then at me. "Come inside." But Zayn spoke before I could move. "There's no reason to hide the truth anymore." My mother closed her eyes. "Please," she whispered. "Not in front of her." "Then tell her yourself." I looked between them, feeling as though the ground beneath my feet was disappearing. "Tell me what?" My mother began to cry. "Your father borrowed money from his family many years ago. He signed an agreement, but he died before he could repay it." I stared at her. "And what does that have to do with me?" She didn't answer. Zayn did. "Your father offered something in exchange for the debt." My heart began pounding. "What?" His eyes remained fixed on mine. "Your hand in marriage." For several seconds, I couldn't breathe. Then I laughed, because the alternative was screaming. "That's ridiculous. My father can't promise me to anyone." "Your father made that agreement before he died," Zayn replied calmly. "I don't care!" My voice echoed through the quiet street. "I'm not marrying you. I don't even know you!" His expression hardened. "Then perhaps you should learn who I am." "I don't want to!" I expected him to shout. Instead, he looked at me with an unsettling calmness. "Your father knew my family. He trusted us enough to sign that agreement." "My father would never sell me!" Zayn's jaw tightened. "Choose your words carefully, Layla." "No! You choose yours. You think because you're rich and powerful, you can control everyone's lives?" He stepped closer, and I forced myself not to move backward. "You have no idea what you're challenging." "Then leave me alone." For the first time, his eyes seemed to change. Something darker appeared in them, something I couldn't understand. "You're going to make this difficult." "I'll never marry you." He studied me for a long moment. Then he turned toward his men. "Prepare the cars." My mother grabbed my wrist. "Layla, please. Don't make him angry." I pulled my hand away. "You're asking me to marry a stranger because of a debt I never made?" She sobbed. "I don't know what else to do." I felt betrayed. My own mother was asking me to surrender my future to a man who looked at me as if my life were already his. Zayn opened the door of the nearest car. "Get in." I stared at him. "Never." He looked at my mother. "Your daughter has two choices. She can come with me willingly and hear the entire agreement, or this matter will be settled in court." My mother went completely silent. I knew she was terrified of losing our home. My father's debts had followed us for years, and now the man standing in front of us had enough money to make our lives miserable. But I refused to become his wife. "Take me to court, then," I said. Zayn's expression became unreadable. "Very well." He entered the car, and the door slammed shut. For one brief moment, I thought he was leaving. Then his window lowered. "One more thing, Layla." I looked at him angrily. "Your father left you more than a debt. He left you a secret." My anger disappeared. "What secret?" Zayn's voice dropped. "Ask your mother why she hid the truth about your birth." Before I could respond, the car drove away. I turned toward my mother. She was crying harder now. "Mom?" She covered her mouth with one hand. "Please don't ask me tonight." But I couldn't stop thinking about his words. Why had my father made such an agreement? What secret was my mother hiding? And why did Sheikh Zayn look so certain that I would eventually belong to him? That night, I barely slept. At midnight, someone knocked on our door. Three slow knocks. My mother froze beside me. I opened the door before she could stop me. A man in a black suit stood outside, holding a small velvet box. "Miss Layla?" "Yes?" He handed me the box. "From Sheikh Zayn." I almost threw it back at him, but curiosity stopped me. Inside was a beautiful diamond necklace and a folded piece of paper. My hands trembled as I opened it. There were only six words written in elegant black ink. You were never meant to escape me. I looked up. The man was already walking away. And somewhere in the darkness, a black car was waiting. Watching my house. Watching me. For the first time in my life, I understood that Sheikh Zayn wasn't simply interested in marrying me. He knew something about my past. And he was willing to turn my entire world upside down to get what he wanted. End of Chapter 1
