Chapter 1
*Sonia*
"Mom! I'm going out!" My mom's tiny figure appeared at the top of the stairs.
"Alright, where are you going?" I rolled my eyes.
"To hell." I walked out the front door with my mom screaming behind me.
"Be back soon! And don't get pregnant til you're 18! You hear me?" I huffed as I made my way to my car. My mom was always paranoid that I'd have s*x before I'm 18 which in a year. I got my driver's license a month ago, so she's also really paranoid about that and it's annoying.
I got into the car that used to be my dad's. He died a year ago and life is tough without him considering I was closer to him then my mom. The car is the only thing left since my mom burned everything else because 'it gave her memories'. Worst excuse ever.
I pulled out of the driveway and started driving. I wasn't going anywhere specifically, just roaming around trying to clear my head from all the s**t that's been happening.I moved to Pennsylvania from Illinois, I missed my dad, and Ive been distant so my mom bothers me ALL the time.
It started drizzling and my phone went off. It was Derrick. Derrick was my ex boyfriend who is just a friend now. Well, a really close friend.
"Hello?"
"Ari, how are you?" I chuckled.
"Fine, you?"
"Horrible, I miss you."
"I miss you too but I'm kinda driving so can I"
"No, let me speak." I stayed silent indicating that he can go on.
"Ok, so when you turn 18, could you maybe move back....to Illinois?" I sighed. How could he ask me that?
"I don't know. I mean, my mother would need me."
"I get it."
"Well, I gotta go, bye."
"See ya." I ended the call and stared at the screen. Should I move back?
I parked in front of the grocery shop and got out. I took in a deep breath before walking in. I was greeted by wind blown in my face. I walked to the aisle to get the food and in the same aisle was a blond around my age, a little shorter, with make up caked on her face. It made her look like a clown and I snickered. She looked over with a blank face.
"Got a problem, b***h?"
"Oh chillax blondie. Just admiring the clown standing right there." I pointed to where she was standing. She gasped and walked away, flipping her hair in the process. I rolled my eyes at the blond's behavior.I walked to the cash register to see the same girl making out with the cashier. I gagged at the hideous sight. I cleared my throat making them pull apart.
The girl sneered at me.
"Well baby, I'll see you later," she said in a seducing way. The cashier gulped and I smirked.
"f**k off blondie. He's not interested."
He sent a small smile my way. She walked away, her hips swaying. A lot of men looked at her which made me sick.
"Thanks, she wouldn't leave me alone."
"No problem. I'm Sonia."
"Logan." We chatted and exchanged numbers as well.
"Well, I better leave it's getting late." It was 10 pm and it was pouring outside.
"Yeah, we'll hang out soon."
"Yeah."I ran to my car and fumbled with the keys. Quickly turning on the heat, I started the car. It was freezing. On the way home, I was textin Logan.
He was a really funny and Sweet guy.Texting distracted me from driving and it was raining.
"God, I better watch the road," I muttered. Lightning flashed in front of me and I screamed.
"Oh my god, oh my god." I sped up because I needed to get home fast.
Suddenly, an animal appeared in front of the car. I slammed the brakes and the car spun to a stop. I banged my head on the steering wheel and felt blood flow down my face. Irushed out the car to the animal which happened to be a dog. my favorite animal. It howled in pain and I felt horrible.
"Im so sorry. C'mon, I'll take you to the....vet!" I tried to pick him up, but he weighed a ton.
"Jeez, you're heavy." I got him in the car and wrapped him up in a blanket. To the vet!
*Sonia*
As I got to the vet, I rushed in not even bothering to turn off the car.
"Help! I need help! Please help!!" I yelled. Some people stopped what they were doing to look at me like I was insane. Please, I am Sonia Geer, Im not insane. A lady who looked about 30 came up to me.
"I am the veterinarian, please state your issue."
"I hit a dog and hurt it," I said in a panicky way. She nodded.
"Where is it?"
"In my car."
"Bring him in." I blinked a couple times. How was I going to do that?
I walked to the car and opened the door.
"Umm you have to come inside so can you try to walk?" It c****d its head as if nodding. It hopped out of the car and yelped. I went to my knees and tried to keep the weight off the hurt leg. We walked inside and the vet took him away and told me to wait in the waiting room. It's not like I had an option.
I was softly humming when the lady came back. She seemed confused and lost.
"Miss, he is fine. No broken or fractured or sprained leg."
"But.....how?" She shook her head.
"We don't know. Another thing, the creature isn't a dog."
"It's not a husky?"
"No, it's a wolf, but this male wolf is much larger than other wolves, so we need to run some tests." They wanted to experiment on him?
"No! I don't give you permission to 'run tests' on my wolf. Ill take him and we'll leave."
"But miss-"
"It's Sonia and no buts. We're leaving now!"
She grunted and ordered some guy to get the wolf. He came back in less then a minute.
"Thank you. Let's go wolfie." I took him to my car and thought of something. Where was I to take him?
I couldn't leave him in the woods. I guess Ill just take him home. I sighed.
This wasn't going to be easy. Once we got home, I already had a plan. My mom was honme but she would never find out. There is a door that leads to the basement from the garage so I can sneak him down there for now. I got him down safely but I almost tripped myself. It is hard getting an over sized wolf down stairs.
"Well wolfie, I'll get you food and then you can sleep, okay?" He c****d his head again as if to nod. I tiptoed up the creaking stairs and wondered what wolves eat. Meat, raw meat. I checked the freezer to find deer meat. Gross. He can eat that. Rushing back downstairs, I gave it to him.
"Here." His eyes seemed hard, stone hard. And it also seemed that he could understand me. Clever wolf.
"Sonia! Where are you?"
"s**t, I'll be back soon." I jogged up the stairs to an angry mom.
"M right here, mom." She looked furious.
"To bed. NOW!"
"Yes sir." I scurried up the stairs to my room.
"I hope the wolf sleeps alright."..
I woke up to mom shaking me and taking the covers. Groaning, I tossed a pillow at her. She caught it and glared at me.
"Up! You've got school." My eyes shot open. School?
"B-but I didn't buy supplies!" She rolled her eyes in annoyance.
"Yeah, that's why you're gonna buy them today." I furrowed my eyebrows.
"I thought I had school."
"Just get the hell up!" I jumped slightly.
"Yes sir." My mother was always hard on me and I really don't know why. I sighed and got up. It was only 4 in the morning! These were the downsides about having a mom that used to be in the military.
Downstairs, I ate my cereal completely forgetting the wolf. I took out my phone and heard a low growl which reminded me about wolfie. I widened my eyes.
"Shit." The freezer had nothing so I made scrambled eggs and bacon. I took the tray downstairs to him. "Wolfie, I got fooood!" Silence. I looked around the basement to see nothing. Suddenly, he bounced out of nowhere and I screamed.
"Stupid wolf," I muttered. I didn't mean it but my mom was in the house.
"Here, eat this." I set the food in front of him. He sniffed it then slowly ate it.
