"This may sound weird" I brace myself for what he will say next, "I think you should tell your parents." I was right to brace myself, that was not what I expected at all, I am in shock. Harris notices and walks over purposefully.
"What's going on here?" He questions protectively. Michael brushes aside the comment and starts talking about deep brother stuff with Harris for the rest of the time. So I end up sitting awkwardly with Liam, who says nothing but a couple of whispers when I try and start a conversation before trailing off and ignoring me completely. It is insulting... And boring to say the least.
But by the time we are leaving, 3 hours later, I can tell that Harris has had an amazing time and is reassured that his brother does not hate him. I don't want to kill his happiness by complaining about Liam's attitude issues.
"Wasn't that great!?!" Harris smiles widely, "Such a great day!"
I nod enthusiastically, and smile kindly, Harris is a great friend. But really all that is on my mind is Micheal's advice to tell my parents. Why would he say that?
I notice that Harris is eying me in a concerned manner, I think that he noticed something was wrong when he came over earlier. Should I say something? Yes, we are friends and friends share important stuff like this.
"Should I tell my parents?" I ask timidly and genuinely wanting his opinion.
"What do you want me to say?" He snaps, "Sorry" he says after a moment, "I'm just tired." I can tell he is thinking about when he told his parents about Micheal, I'm so insensitive.
"No I'm sorry" I butt in, "I should have thought"
"I really am just tired" He insists.
"Okay," I respond, defeated.
"And with regards to your question, it's completely up to you" A pause, "No one else can decide it for you or tell you what to do."
"Thanks" I say, sincerely appreciating his honesty. "I am going to",
"Did Michael say you should?" He waits then continues "Is that what I came in on earlier?" He waits again, this time he stays silent until I have formulated a reply.
"Yes. And I think he was right."
More silence.
"Will you come with me when I do?"
Harris nods.
The solemn exchange is interrupted by my phone ringing. Celia! I pick up immediately and find her immediately dying to know how my day is going. I decide that I should put her on speaker phone so that she can talk with Harris and we can both explain the situation. You can imagine that she is quite surprised as I am suggesting it to her, she knows nothing about the goings on since I met Harris.
"Let me get this straight," she then sarcastically clarifies, "So Harris is nice, his brother is Gay, Harris got his brother kicked out of 'wolf club' and now you want to tell your parents that you are into girls..." She pauses, "Logical" she finishes in a hysterical tone. Before giving a nervous laugh, Harris laughs as well, seeing the validity of her confusion. I chuckle before she talks again.
"Cara," She directly addresses me, "Do whatever you want to do, don't be pressured into something that you are uncomfortable with." I should have known that Celia would be so supportive, I should have called her before. "You should have called me so much sooner" She says, voicing my thoughts.
"I know." I admit.
"When are you going to say?"
"Well," I think about it, "Today!"
"What!!!" She explodes, "We don't talk for a day and you go completely crazy!" she rants.
"No, it's just I want Harris to be there when I do, so today would be good, the sooner the better I say!" I explain.
"What about me being there?" She asks, sounding rejected.
"It would be dangerous, wolves can get pretty scary when they are shocked or unhappy"
"Cara, you are my best friend" She states, as if it is a legitimate argument that she should be there. I smile to myself. Would I have ever done it without her there?
"Be at mine in ten?" I ask.
She reassures me confidently. "Don't worry, I'll be there." I hang up the phone and look over at Harris. He shakes his head at me.
"Not a good plan..."
