Chapter Fourteen I opened my eyes to see Ben sitting on the window seat and quietly pulling on his shoes. Disappointment stabbed through me, but I did my best to sound unconcerned as I said, trying to make my words sound like a joke, “Sneaking away under cover of darkness?” Not that it was really all that dark. The light level in the room told me it was probably around six-thirty in the morning or thereabouts.
