Lost in this World

I awake like every morning and turn my alarm off. Dang thing has been blaring for the last 10 minutes. I suppose I better get up and get going to the shop. My boss and best friend, Sara, will be expecting me to be walking in promptly at 7am. I pull my black jeans on, slip a white tshirt over my head, and grab a hoodie. You maybe wondering who I am, my name is Mercedes, Cedes for short. I’m 19 years old and live in a small secluded town, we maybe have 50 people in our town total. I live in a small studio apartment by the center of town and literally everything is within walking distance. As I leave, I pop my headphones on and start walking. While walking to the shop, I wave to a couple of the folks in town. We are a pretty tight knit community considering how few people there are. Only downside is, no one here is family to me. Sara & her mom, Grace, found me in a basket as a newborn. Sara is two years older than me and they have lived here since Grace was pregnant with Sara. Grace told me the only thing they found with me as a baby was an amulet of some sort that was shaped like a diamond and had an amazing blood red stone in it. Other than that, it had R.B. Engraved On the front of it and on the back it said, “Follow your Journey back to Us.” Nothing else was left with me. We don’t know if R.B. Was my initials, my parents, or anything. So for 19 years now, I have stayed with them and worked at the shop. As I walk in, I’m tackled by Grace in one of her amazing hugs. I swear she gives the best hugs ever! As I’m clocking in, the door chimes to someone walking. “Good morning! Be with you in a sec”- Sara calls out. I round the corner to come up front and I’m hit with the most gorgeous man standing by the front counter. “Good morning sir! What can I get for you this morning?”- I say cheerfully to him. He looks at me and before I can say anything else, I’m hit with the most delectable scent ever. A mix of strawberries and mint, I can’t place my finger where the smell is coming from. His eyes, I swear changed from ocean blue to black and back in seconds. He than says, “ I’ve been searching for you. “
