My Luna Luna

Lunas POV:   As I entered the cafeteria with Libby my senses were filled with the delicious scent I had smelt earlier, it was amazing and mouth-watering and every instinct in me told me to find it and devour it.   “MATE!” Screamed a voice in my head. A voice that wasn’t mine. A voice I didn’t recognize.   “What or who are you? What are you doing in my mind?” I shouted internally, I knew I had to look like a crazy person, standing at the doors to the cafeteria with my eyes bulging wide and my mouth gaping open.   “Not important right now! MATE! Our Mate is nearby and we must not lose him! He is right there, go to him, I want to nuzzle into that amazing smell he is putting out. Go to him!”    I felt my body jerk forward as if this other voice in my mind was trying to control my body. I must be going crazy, that was the only explanation, I was going crazy and I was doing it in front of the entire school. Just as I moved to turn around and run from the cafeteria my eyes locked with the most amazing pair of blue eyes I had ever encountered, framed by such long dark lashes it should be illegal for lashes to grow like that. Onyx-colored hair curled on his forehead and his mouth was such a perfect shape I wanted to press my lips to his just to see how they would feel.   What was going on?!   Looking back in his eyes I saw love and surprise and elation shining back at me. At me? I didn’t even know this guy, besides being the most beautiful man I’d ever seen. No, he couldn’t be looking at me. Taking a step back I saw confusion enter his gaze, he didn’t understand why I was walking away from him. I didn’t care. I took another step back, urging my body to run for the hills while all it would do was slowly back away. The look of confusion in his eyes grew, his beautiful face scrunching up into a mix of worry and uncertainty, my actions were hurting him, and though my heart ached at the idea of hurting him, I couldn’t afford to care. Something was happening, and I was not okay with it, I needed space. I needed to find out what was going on inside my head.   Shaking my head, I broke eye contact with the confusing stranger and turned around, slamming the cafeteria doors open and running from the room, I didn’t know where I was going, but it was far from here, far from him, and hopefully, far from the turmoil in my mind.   Vespian's POV:   I could tell she smelled me, her eyes closed for a second as she breathed in deep and took in my scent. If it smelt anywhere near as amazing to her as hers did to me, then I understood just breathing it in and enjoying it. I waited for her eyes to meet mine, I wanted to see the joy in her eyes as she realized she’d found her mate. I wanted to see her lovely mouth move up into a smile and watch as she took a step towards me. She wouldn’t need to walk far, because I’d meet her halfway. Just as I was going to take a step towards her, her eyes grew wide and her mouth fell open in shock, but she wasn’t looking at me, she was staring off into space. Confusion and something else crossed her face… what was that emotion? Then it dawned on him. Fear. She was confused and afraid, and I didn’t understand why.   Even as a human she shouldn’t be scared of me, she should feel a little of the pull I did. Wait, she’d breathed in my scent, humans didn’t have the kind of senses we had, how had she smelt me from across the cafeteria? Her scent, while amazing, was human. I didn’t understand. But what I did understand was my wolf, Eli’s pain as he realized our mate feared us. When her eyes met mine, I saw that fear amplify, then she stepped back from me, and then again, and within a second she was gone, running away from me.   I tried to move after her but I felt a hand land on my shoulder and growled at the person behind me before I saw them. When I looked back I met a pair of silvery-blue eyes, and they were angry and questioning. “Explain why my baby sister just ran from here when her eyes landed on you. And I suggest you be careful with your words.”   “No time! Go after our mate now Vespian, or I will make you.”  Eli’s voice filled my head, and it was dripping with fear and concern for our mate.   “Calm down Eli, if her brother disapproves of us then how will we have a chance to convince her to give us a chance?”  I could feel him slowly relax in my mind as if the words were sinking in slowly.   “Fine, but you better hurry. I can feel the confusion and fear coming from her and I will not allow her to hurt herself stressing over this.”  Eli’s voice held acceptance of my request, but also determined that he would not be patient long.   “I don’t know Orion, all I did was look at her. Maybe stare a little, your sister is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. What is her name?” Of course, I already knew her name, Roselyn had told me all about the Slade siblings this morning, I knew my mates' name was Luna, and if I had a chance to find humor in the situation I would be chuckling over the fact that my mate would be Luna Luna once we took over my back as its Alpha couple.   The anger seeped out of his eyes as he understood what I was saying, I hadn’t met her before, I hadn’t hurt her. The anger was replaced by suspicion though. “Her name is Luna, and she never acts like that, she’s normally calm, collected, and caring. I have never seen her run away as if her very life depended on it.” Looking back at his sister Celeste, an unspoken communication seemed to be happening between them, if I wasn’t watching their eyes and seeing with my own that they were clear and focused, I would have assumed they were mind linking. “Celeste and I are going to speak with Luna, stay away from her until I find out what is happening.” His voice was stern, concrete. Once again, my senses told me that if I wasn’t an Alpha by blood his very voice would demand I listen.   At the command to stay behind and stay away from my Luna, Eli growled in my mind, he would not be told to stay away from what was his by anyone, including her brother. It took everything in me to keep him reigned in as I watched Orion and Celeste Slade run gracefully from the cafeteria and after their sister. After they left, through the same double doors she did I noticed all eyes in the cafeteria were on me, and not all were friendly. So much for staying under the radar and building the treaty.
