What is in a name?
“Luna!  Celeste!  Orion!  Get up and get ready for school!!” Opening my eyes as I wake up I can’t help but hiss and throw my arm over my face.  Daylight is streaming through my curtains and it’s making my eyes water.  Just as I’m about to throw the covers off of myself I hear foot steps thundering down the hall.   “Out of my way Celeste!  If I wait till you and Luna are done in there I’ll be late for school!”   “No way Orion!  The bathroom always smells when you get done!  And me and Luna can go in together so we’re done faster!” A loud crash followed the arguing telling me someone hit the hallway table, I wait for the shattering of the vase of flowers sitting on said table, but since it didn’t come I assume my siblings caught it. “Celeste and Orion, down stairs now!”  I heard my mother bellow up the stairs followed by my brother and sisters groans and sighs.   I chuckle to my self as I swing my feet onto the floor and grab my bathroom bag off of my side table, looks like I get a hot shower this morning.  Grinning like the cat who got the preverbal cream, I make my way to the bathroom and shut the door just as I hear foot steps coming up the stairs, just to be a brat I turn the lock. “Luna!  No fair!” I hear my sister Celeste holler as she bangs on the door. “You could at least let me do my make up and hair while you shower!” Turning the shower on I pull my pajamas off and holler at the door.  "Can't hear you, in the shower!"  and step in as soon as the water is warmed up. I hear foot steps head down the hall and Orion mutter “Damn sisters, I can’t wait to have my own place.” Now you might be wondering how I can hear my brother mutter through a door, down the hall, over the sound of running water... well, it’s because me and my brother and sister have heightened senses.  We don’t know why we’re a little different, but we joke it’s because we’re triplets.  My brother, sister and I were born under a full moon on October 31st, 3 months early, which is normal for multiples but we shocked doctors when we came out small but completely developed, we needed no NICU time.  This Saturday is our 18th birthday, oddly our senses have gotten sharper as our 18th birthday approached. “Luna come on!  Please!  I can’t go to school with my hair looking like this!”  Celeste wailed through the bathroom door.  You’d think being triplets we’d be pretty similar... wrong.  If any of us are similar it’s Orion and Celeste.   Orion is captain of the football team, star quarter back and school heart throb.  With his sandy brown shaggy hair, silvery blue eyes, and muscular build, all the girls in school are in love with him.  Not that he dates, he’s never had a single girlfriend, never shown interest in any girl.  Celeste and I tease him constantly that he’s going to die alone because he’s so picky, but in reality he just has never felt a connection with any girl he’s ever met. Me and Celeste can’t pick on him to much about it, we’ve never dated either. Celeste is a cliché if I’ve ever seen one.  Tall and thin with an athletic tone, she is basically a walking, talking, Barbie doll with her long platinum blonde hair framing a heart shaped face and baby blue eyes, her full pouty lips are just the icing on the cake.  Oh, and she’s the captain of the cheer squad and star volley ball player. Me, I’m just Luna.  I’m short, only 5 ft, 8 inches shorter then Celeste and a whole foot shorter then Orion, which isn’t terrible, I’m moms favorite seeing as how I’m “the baby” though I'm the oldest, my brother calls me “the runt”, I don’t find it offensive, I am the runt of our little trio.  Unlike my blonde haired, blue eyed siblings, I have chestnut brown hair with natural honey high lights and warm golden eyes with flecks of green in them.  With long dark eyelashes and an almond shape, my eyes are easily my best feature, though my nose is small and straight and my lips are decently plump as well.  I know I’m considered “pretty” but compared to Celeste, I’m frumpy.  Our father has never been in our lives.  Mom has told us everything she knew about him, they had met in the woods when she was jogging.  She’d rounded a turn and he was laying in the middle of the trail naked, covered in bruises and cuts and blood.  Mom had bent down to check for his pulse when his eyes snapped open, she said it was almost as if looking into his eyes had filled the hole she’d always had in her heart.  Love at first sight.   Apparently he’d refused to go to the hospital, claiming there were people after him, so mom had taken him home and nursed him back to health, he’d healed so fast she hadn’t had to nurse him long.  She said when their hands touched it sent electricity through her, and she knew he was the only man for her.   They’d had 2 weeks together in her little apartment before he’d told her he had to fix his past to build a future with her properly, that when he came back he’d take her to his home and they’d live happily ever after.  But he’d never returned, and though mom tried finding him, it was as if he’d dropped off the face of the Earth, all she knew was his name, Lucien Slade. Mom gave us his last name, and our first names were inspired by the stories he had told her during those two weeks, of werewolf queens and the stars and the moon in the sky.  I was Luna because I looked the most like mom, and his nickname for her had been Luna, so I was Little Luna. “Luna!!  Come on!  I need to fix my hair!”  Celeste's angry hollering pulled me from my musings, having finished washing my hair and body I flicked the water off and rubbed my skin dry before opening the door and smiling up at her “Looks like the runt won the battle for the bathroom maybe you two will think twice before you fight before moms had her second cup of coffee.”  Celeste rolls her eyes at me and pushes into the bathroom before shutting and locking the door, I laugh as I walk back towards my room.
