Chapter 29 – Close Encounters

380 Words
The following weekend, Isabella’s class had a study session in the botanical garden, surrounded by blooming flowers and quiet walking paths. She hoped the peaceful setting would help her focus, but of course, fate had other plans. As she settled at a small table under a flowering tree, Leo appeared first, carrying a notebook and a bottle of juice. "Mind if I join you?" he asked, flashing a grin. Isabella smiled, her heart fluttering. "Sure… it’ll be nice to have company." They began reviewing notes together, laughing softly at small mistakes and teasing each other over complex problems. Isabella felt alive and energized by Leo’s bold, playful energy. Every glance, every touch, every whispered joke made her chest race. Just as she was beginning to focus, Ethan appeared from the other side of the garden, carrying his own notes and a small snack. "Isabella… I thought I’d help too," he said quietly, smiling gently. Leo’s grin faltered slightly, replaced by a flash of jealousy. "Seems like she’s never alone, huh?" he teased, though the edge in his voice betrayed his feelings. Ethan ignored the comment, focusing instead on Isabella. "I just want to make sure you’re okay," he said softly. For a moment, Isabella sat quietly, torn between the excitement and boldness of Leo and the calm, comforting presence of Ethan. Her chest ached as she realized how deeply she had come to care for both of them. The three of them sat together, working on notes while navigating the unspoken tension. Leo leaned closer, whispering teasingly, "You know… I like being the one who makes you laugh." Ethan’s hand brushed hers gently as he pointed out a correction in her work, "And I like being the one who makes you feel safe." Isabella’s cheeks burned. Two boys, two ways of loving her, and her emotions were more tangled than ever. She closed her notebook and rested her head in her hands, whispering softly, "How can I ever choose… when both of you make my heart feel so full and torn?" The botanical garden, once peaceful, now felt charged with jealousy, desire, and unspoken emotions, reminding Isabella that her journey to choose—and the playful yet intense rivalry—was far from over.
