Chapter 18 – A Confession in the Rain

427 Words
The next day, dark clouds rolled over Starlight University, threatening a sudden downpour. Isabella was walking across campus when the first drops of rain began to fall. She hurried toward the nearest shelter—a small gazebo near the fountain—but as she approached, she realized she wasn’t alone. Leo was already there, slightly drenched, holding a basketball under his arm. His hair was wet, sticking slightly to his forehead, and his usual confident grin was softened by the rain. "Hey… looks like we got caught in this," he said, shrugging. Isabella laughed nervously, shaking raindrops from her hair. "Yeah… I didn’t expect it to rain so suddenly." Leo stepped closer, his eyes locking with hers. "Isabella… I need to tell you something," he said, his tone serious now. "I can’t hide it anymore. I… I really like you. More than anyone else. And every time I see you with Ethan, my chest… it hurts a little." Her heart raced, torn between excitement and guilt. She wanted to respond, to confess how much she liked him too, but the thought of Ethan waiting somewhere made her hesitate. Just then, Ethan appeared, running across the courtyard with his jacket held over his head. He reached the gazebo, soaked but smiling softly. "Isabella… Leo," he said, his calm voice steady but serious, "I didn’t mean to intrude, but… I also have something to say." Leo’s eyes narrowed slightly, a flash of jealousy in his gaze. "Go ahead," he said, trying to keep his tone casual. Ethan looked at Isabella, his wet hair plastered to his forehead. "Isabella… I like you. I’ve tried to stay patient, but I can’t hide it anymore. I care about you—more than I’ve ever cared about anyone." Isabella’s cheeks burned. Two confessions, two hearts laid bare, and her own feelings tangled like a storm inside her. She felt the pull of Leo’s bold passion and Ethan’s gentle care, both demanding her attention, both deserving of her love. The rain continued to fall, soaking them all, but Isabella didn’t move. She whispered, almost to herself, "How can I choose… when my heart belongs to both of you?" Leo and Ethan exchanged a tense glance, each aware of the other’s feelings, each silently promising to fight for her heart. The rivalry had reached a new level—emotional, raw, and unavoidable. Isabella stood in the middle, drenched, torn, and acutely aware of the impossible choice she faced. The rain fell around them, but the storm in her heart was far fiercer.
