CHAPTER FOUR. AMELIA’S POV I ran as fast as my legs could carry me in a bid to get away from the palace before John decides to change his mind. I was excited that I had left in one piece, but my emotions still wavered. The chuckle that emancipated in the room as I ran made me feel like a fool. I had gotten my hopes high to ever think a f*******n relationship between a siren and a werewolf would ever come to pass. As I ran, I kept watching the rear to see if anyone was chasing me. Fortunately for me, I was good to go, as no one was tailing me either. It was already dark when I arrived home. Upon reaching the entrance of the house, my sister's voice got me sober. I had been banished, never to set foot on this fertile land any more. I was now an outcast, an enemy to the pack itself. "Where the hell were you? I've been searching the entire city for you. I'm just glad you're safe." She wrapped her arms around me, taking me in for a hug. "I have been banished from the city, Helen. I never wanted any of this to happen, but it did at the very last minute." Tears gathered in my eyes, waiting for the right moment to take flight. "What was your offense?" Did they accuse you of being a siren?" she asked. "What does it matter? What's done is done. I've been banished from the city for good, never to return," I wailed. "So what's the plan? Are you really going to leave?" she inquired. She was worried, knowing how dangerous it was outside the four walls of the city. "I am weak. I don't have the power to fight back; I'm a useless siren," I lamented as tears rolling down my cheeks. "Don't say that, Amelia. You're strong; you just have to believe in yourself to release your true potential.." Helen comforted me, and we both began to sob in each other's arms one last time. "She's to leave at once," the voice of Henry, the chief guard, got us startled. He showed no signs of pity or rebellion, but he had much more to do than say. With his strength, he pulled us apart. Breaking the hug, which gave us comfort in an instant. Helen rushed inside and returned with a bag filled with the necessary items I needed to travel. "This should be sufficient enough for you to reach the human realm. Stay safe for me, Amelia," Helen said as tears rolled down her eyes. With the little confidence left in me, I began my journey. Henry just watched as my sister cried her eyes out. He didn't want to get involved in what had transpired, nor did he feel the need to. There was only one way out of the city. It was the forest sector and also the most dangerous of them all. The guards had already been issued a statement to let me out of the gate, which they carried out perfectly well. I was out of the city, heading towards the forest, which led to the human realm. The human realm seemed to be the best place for me to lay my head, as humans weren't as complicated as they seemed. Vampires were obviously faster and stronger than me; I would end up as dinner if I crossed their territory. Sirens weren't really that welcoming to Helen and me. They lived in water, and it would take me time for me to learn how to breathe underwater. Witches, depending on their type. The white witches and the dark witches. I don't want to get entangled. In a clash of spells and become entangled. Humans vary, and that's the more reason they're quite safe. Though they're filled with clashing emotions, they still seem to be the only option for me. "Amelia Gregory, I suppose," the husky sound of a male voice halted my steps. I was almost at the heart of the forest, and if anything were to happen, I would be caught wanting. I veered around, stealing a glance at the three bodyguards who stood before me. I hadn't seen a single creature after hours of trekking, and it was really kind of John to send his guards to watch over me. "I'm trying to find my way out of the forest. Can you help me with that?" I inquired as I rushed forth to meet them. "We have been told to escort you to your destination by his Majesty, the mighty Alpha John," the man replied, leading the way. The rustling of leaves and relentless breaking of twigs rushed through my ears as we reached the heart of the forest. It wasn't like the other parts we had stumbled upon; it was dark and beautiful all at the same time. The guards suddenly halted, laying their eyes on me. I felt uneasy as they pulled their blades out, directing the tip towards me. "What's happening? Is there any danger I need to be protected from?" I asked as my legs trembled. "Danger? There's nothing like danger here," the man responded. "Then why are your blades out? I thought they were only used for execution of inferior species," I inquired. "You know I said His Majesty asked us to escort you to your supposed destination," he began. "Yes, I remember that," I responded in fear. "It was all a lie. A plot to get you to the heart of the forest and carry out his decree; escort Amelia Gregory to the grave," he said in a dramatic tone. I could feel my legs starting to betray me and my arms waltzing away in pain. "So you were sent to kill me?" I summarized. "Any last words, Amelia?" His blade came close to my neck. "Save me," I whispered beneath my breath as he drew his sword back, ready to behead me. I sought an escape route, but they had surrounded me, and there was nothing more I could do. "This is the end, Amelia.".
