Destiny
“Come on, Des, don’t be a spoilsport, and drink.” My best friend, Keira screamed over the loud music.
“Not happening, Keira.” I replied, simply shaking my head. Alcohol and I don’t go well together, and I definitely don’t wish to embarrass myself in front of everyone in this club.
“Don’t be a baby Des, it’s your f*****g birthday.” Natasha rolled her eyes dramatically. Yep, you heard that right. We’re here in this supposedly lively new club to celebrate my 18th birthday. It’s a fresh addition to our pack’s very famous five-star hotel in the human territory.
“You know I can’t drink. Riley and Aiden would kill me if they found out what I was up to.” I refused again.
“Yeah, yeah, we all know that you are the spoiled princess of the Dark Moon Pack. Don’t have to rub it on our faces.” Natasha scoffed in response.
“Don’t be rude Nat, you know that’s not what she meant.” Keira immediately scolded.
“I know, I was just joking, lighten up a bit.” Natasha replied. “How about we hit the dance floor?” She asks instead and all of us immediately agree.
We hit the dance floor and move our bodies in rhythm with club music. Amongst all the sweaty bodies grinding on each other we were able to keep to ourselves dancing and enjoying with our friends. It was a double celebration after all, not only was it my birthday but our school ends in less than ten days.
We had been dancing for quite a while, and I was starting to feel thirsty. “Guys, I am going to get a drink.” I shouted over the loud music and turned to get myself a glass of water and immediately bumped into a hard wall of muscles.
“I am so sorry.” I immediately apologised, and suddenly a pleasant scent filled my nostrils. Dawn was going crazy in my head howling in joy as she tried to take over. After a bit of struggle I managed to push her down and looked up to see the most beautiful blue eyes staring at me.
My breath hitched, and Dawn started chanting ‘Mate’ in my head. Before I could react or say anything, my mate just nodded his head, turned around and left me frozen in place as he walked away from me. I noticed his muscular back.
Although he looked very handsome, he was in a very dishevelled state. My heart raced at the thought of my mate possibly being hurt. He was a tall man, maybe around 6’3” build with muscles and I don’t think anyone could just randomly beat him up.
‘Damn right, no one can hurt our mate.’ Dawn agreed in my head.
“I thought you were going to get a drink.” Natasha’s loud voice filled my ears. “Who are you looking at?” She asked, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively.
“I bumped into a guy and I think he is my mate.” I replied, immediately wincing at my wolf’s loud growl.
‘He is our mate.’ She roared, her voice filled with anger.
“I know he is my mate.” I corrected, and Natasha chuckled in response.
“I take that as Dawn being upset.” She said, and I nodded in response.
“So, who is your mate?” She asked, curiously looking around the dance floor.
“He is there, at the bar,” I pointed to where my mate sat trying to get the bartender's attention.
“Him? Oh my God! I am so happy for you.” She said immediately, giving me a hug.
“Thanks!” I whispered, not knowing how to approach him.
“But why aren’t you with him? Shouldn’t you be in a room somewhere with him?” She smirked, making my eyes widen. I could feel my cheeks get warm at her words.
“Nat!” I screamed, trying to shut her up, but she only laughed in response, suddenly turning serious.
“Oh my God! Is it because he is poor? He even came to the club in rugged clothes.” She frowned, looking at my mate and I didn’t like the way she was talking about him. I wanted to tell her she was wrong, but she interrupted before I could speak to her.
“Oh Des, I understand, but trust me it doesn’t matter. I am sure you’ll still love each other the same. Go talk to him.” She said, pushing me towards the bar, but I nervously took a step back. How do I even approach him? Should I just go and say, “Hey, I am your mate, nice to meet you?” He didn’t even smell like a wolf. What would he know about mates?
“I think you need some liquor courage to open up and speak to your mate.” She chuckled looking at me. “Come with me,” she said, pulling me towards the bar.
“But what about the others?” I asked, confused.
“I’ll tell them you had to leave urgently. Don’t worry.” She assured, and I sighed, closely following behind her.
“Stay here, I will be right back.” She said, pushing me on a seat beside my mate. It was extremely difficult to stay in control especially with Dawn already screaming in my head. It was overwhelming to say the least. I nervously sat on the seat, secretly stealing a few glances at my mate.
He looked even more beautiful than I thought. He had a frown on his face as he looked at the bartender, a bit irritated while he was busy flirting with girls. Maybe he wanted a drink but as usual bartenders in these high end clubs are mostly busy serving girls.
“Here you go,” Natasha handed me a drink before I could say something. “Enjoy yourself,” she winked before running back to the dance floor.
I sat at the bar, casually taking a few sips of my drink. I tried to ignore the bitter taste of the alcohol and decided I wouldn’t be finishing this drink anymore. I contemplated on how to start a conversation with the beautiful man beside me but couldn’t come up with any ideas.
“Are you going to finish that?” I turned at the sound of the deep voice that sent shivers down my spine. His voice was as beautiful as he looked, and I felt my heart squeeze painfully inside my chest as I thought about my mate asking for my unfinished drink. DId he not have money to buy a drink?
“I am not much of an alcoholic.” I replied, shrugging my shoulders in response. “But I cou—” before I could offer to buy him a drink he chugged down the contents of my glass.
“Sorry, I really needed that,” he chuckled at my shocked expression.
“I am sorry, I didn’t mean it, I—” I was at a loss of words. “Can I buy you a drink?” I offered, trying to get rid of the awkwardness.
“Sure, but only if you accept to let me pay you back. I don’t have cash on me, and they have an issue with their card machine.” He replied with a smile.
“Oh no, you don’t have to pay me back. It’s no problem at all.” Money was not a problem and I could buy him as many drinks as he wanted. He was my mate after all.
“Then, I can’t let you do that,” he shook his head and turned to leave.
“Fine! You can pay me back.” I felt desperate at the moment. Between wanting to spend more time with my mate and trying to keep Dawn from taking control it was proving to be very difficult. “Now how about that drink?” I asked, trying to play it cool. I didn’t want my mate to have a bad impression of me.
“By the way, I am Destiny Sparks.” I extended my hand, introducing myself.
“I am Caleb. Nice to meet you.” He shook my hand, and I shivered as electricity went through my veins at our contact. I ordered some juice for myself, and whiskey for him as he preferred while we casually chatted. I didn’t know how long it had been but I was starting to feel hot all of a sudden.
“I don’t feel good.” I murmured as I tried to get up only to stumble and fall in Caleb’s arms.
“Easy there tiger.” He chuckled before looking in my eyes. He smiled, casually pushing a few strands of my hair behind my ear. “You’re beautiful, Destiny.” He whispered, as he leaned closer to me. I blushed at his compliment.
“You’re very handsome too.” I replied. My hands had a mind of their own as they slowly wrapped around his neck and before I knew it his lips were on mine as we kissed each other passionately.
I thought I was accepting him and taking this step with my mate to start a new life. If only I had known that, this would be the beginning of my misery.
