CHAPTER 6

The air was dense, the grass and the tents were really wet because of the heavy dew that fell during the early hours of the day. Everybody had gathered around a very big platform making indistinct noises, talking softly about the tournament and how the competition was going to be tough because of Aiden, he was really famous and rumored to be the strongest and he might win the tournament. The first match was about to begin and it was between a boy, Mike, and a girl, Florence, as they both came out to stand on the platform. Aiden found himself gazing at her without removing his eyes. Gaius saw he was drooling and shoved him with his shoulder, telling him her name was Florence and she was the apprentice of the second strongest assassin, who is also a female too. Aiden looked at him finally and asked who the strongest assassin was and Luther told him it was his master. Aiden looked at both of them for a while, finding it hard to believe that out of all the assassins gathered or even existed at that time, his own master, Jesse, would be the strongest, or maybe even if it was true, he would have found out or his name would have been in the history books. He finally spoke up and told them he knew his master was strong, but he did not believe that his master would be the strongest. Luther explained that Aiden’s master was supposed the head of the assassins but he refused to take the position because he did not like stress and to add to it in his early days he always won the tournament anytime he participated no one could ever defeat him because of his wits and strength but most especially he was very smart. Gaius beckoned on them that the fight was about to start, Aiden turned back with a grin on his face looking towards where his master was seated, thinking that his life was about to get real interesting. A tall lanky looking man came to the podium asking both fighters if they were ready and both of them nodded in confirmation then he stepped down and shouted fight. Mike threw two knives at Florence while charging forward but she moved sideways and the knives flew right past her, as she looked forward mike came with a blow which she again moved and did a cartwheel to move behind him with a smile on her face. She brought out her sword and brought out four round looking objects, Mike also drew his sword and started charging at her, as he was coming she said you rush too much so gently that it was hardly heard and dropped her balls and smoked cover the whole podium. All anyone could hear was the swords clashing rapidly over and over, as the smoke began to go down there was no sound heard again and they all waited for it to get clear and it became clear, that’s when they saw Florence standing over Mike with the edge of her sword on his throat he then said he surrenders. There was an awkward silence followed by clapping. Even if stealth was the way of the assassin, the fact that no one knew how she won was impressive at the same time confusing. As she left the stage, Aiden smiled, looking at her because he had never been impressed by a woman with beauty and talent. Florence was a girl in her early 20s, to be precise, 21. She was a dark-skinned girl with a very pretty face, dark hair, fairly tall and her smile sent shivers down the spine of Aiden, which he enjoyed. He made up his mind that he was going to talk to her as soon as the tournament was over. The next name that was called was Gaius. That was when Aiden came back to reality. He was anxious to see how his friend would do, because he did not really look like much of an assassin. Gaius was what you call a chubby person. He never agreed he was fat, so people stuck with the term chubby to describe him. If he was to be described, he was a 22-year-old, light-skinned, chubby boy with golden hair which part of it covered his face. He was a handsome looking person and he had green eyes to go with it, so even if he was chubby he had girls interested in him, but he was not a smooth talker, unlike Luther, who had a sweet mouth. Gaius stood on the podium with his sword already out, looking straight at his opponent straight in the eyes. Aiden was wondering how fast he would be because of his size. The lanky assassin came up to the stage again to check if both of them were ready and they both nodded. He stepped down and gave them the go ahead to fight. The opponent sprinted toward Gaius very fast, even faster than the other guy had sprinted. Gaius closed his eyes, opened them and swung his sword to block the attack his opponent had launched. He kept on averting all the attacks that were being thrown at him. This went on for a while and Aiden began to wonder why he refused to attack, as he was about to turn to Luther to ask why he was fighting that way. Luther placed his hand on his lips and told him the interesting part was about to begin. Aiden looked back and found out that the other assassins' attack was becoming sloppy. That’s when Gaius' stance changed as he began attacking at an incredible speed, which was shocking for Aiden, because he could not believe that with the weight that Gaius had he could move as fast as that, but then he remembered that he was an assassin. Gaius jumped up and somersaulted three times before landing his sword on the opponent's sword who had already blocked the attack. As he was landing, he used his sword to pick up sand and threw it at him, which entered his eyes. Then Gaius used the head of his sword to hit him at his pressure points, which. Then, like everyone. He was about to applaud him. He stood up again, Gaius turned and saw him standing, then rushed at him thinking he would take him down with one blow, but it seemed his opponent had become stronger. Their swords clashed, they threw knives at each other but evaded them, and everything was happening so fast that Aiden was finding it hard to keep up with the speed. Finally, they stepped away from each other panting and looking at themselves. Gaius then dropped his sword and took out two short knives and ran toward him and the fighting began again. They tirelessly threw their hands at each other, none of them willing to back down. The fight went on for an hour and then Gaius' opponent moved backwards and then started charging towards Gaius again, but as he got close to where he was, Gaius threw a back flip and hit him in his jaw, which sent him flying back and he landed on the floor unable to stand up. After the count of 10, he wasn’t able to get up and Gaius was declared the winner. Everyone applauded him. Aiden turned to Luther and asked if Gaius had always had that type of stamina. Luther answered him yes and told him, despite his chubby nature, Gaius was not the type of person to run out of gas easily. Gaius came down and joined his friends went them a high five, celebrating his victory. The next name that was called was Aiden and his opponent was Theo. He began to think it was deliberately set up because he had the smile on his master's face. He climbed the podium very anxious, looked around and saw Florence looking at him. anxiety made him more nervous. Looking at Theo, he saw the hatred in his eyes and wondered why he was angry. As the lanky man climbed up again to check if they were ready, Aiden pulled out his sword and nodded his head, consoling himself that he had always wanted to fight someone and this was his chance. As the lanky man stepped down, Theo told him he was going to send him back to where he came from and there was no need for fake assassins like him around. Aiden looked stunned and stood still as Theo ran towards him like someone with the intent of killing.
