Aurora's POV
“Oh Uncle Adam!” I heard Sarah screamed before jumping into my grandfather’s arms.
I was still frozen in shock as I wasn’t even expecting him to be here. I avoided his eyes by snuggling into Colton arms, I could still see the disappointment and pain he has in them when he has asked me not to go.
Caught in the choice between my identity and Reid, I choose him without thinking and even though grandpa never asked that I cut myself from the family, I did and countless begging that I return, He told Alvin to inform me that I wasn’t allowed to return home single believing my marriage would end in scrambles… I didn’t even want to at that time.
Reid looked flustered but there was a certain level of connection I felt Colt had with grandpa, he didn’t look moved or shocked by his presence.
“This is the father of my baby’s that was to get that project” she introduced, giving Reid the room to talk.
“This can’t be your granddaughter, this is Aurora an orphan I had made the mistake to marry and now as if to spite me she sneaked inside here without an invite, with a commoner like my STEP BROTHER”
My eyes met granddaddy questioning one’s and pleased he let me handle it.
“Yes Uncle, You won’t believe that this slut, had the guts to sneak into such a high profile event” Sarah cooed and I held back the urge to laugh at how foolish she must be sounding.
What was it with these people and tagging me as a slut?
“I’m not the one that got pregnant for someone else's husband”. I threw back.
“You can blame me Aurora, I never asked you to be barren?” Sarah mocked and a slap resounded in the hall.
“Once again, how dare the both of you talk to my granddaughter like that?”
Two of his men pushed both Reid and Sarah to kneel on the ground.
“Uncle?”Sarah asked in confusion but was shut up by another slap.
“Listen to me carefully, I have watched you play god with my granddaughter's life like a baton, but now I won't allow you to continue this nonsense anymore.”
Reid spared me a glance, while clutching his beloved concubine’s hand together as she tried to make me understand that I was probably getting on his nerves.
“I think you're making a mistake. You can't possibly want her here over me? I am Reid Miller!” He protested, making me scoff at his delusion.
My grandfather threw his head back in laughter as he tried to find answers to this stupid statement.
“You're the fool here who went ahead to get married to a woman with no proper investigation. You dare have the right to make her a shell of herself? Because of your stupid ambitions? I'm so angry that I didn't get rid of you when I had the chance to.”
Okay… this was escalating faster than I wanted it to, so I stretched out my hands, trying to calm the situation.
“Grandpa, please just let them be. Now he knows that I'm not the girl he can mess with, I believe that he won't attempt any nonsense anymore.” I said, trying to reduce the attention on us.
Lies!
I was enjoying this but I wanted to be the one to handle them both, slowly and painfully… I wanted to stripe whatever dignity they had just like they did to me
“You don't want him thrown out?” My grandfather asked in a stunned tone.
I shook my head slightly before leaning into Colton's arms, drawing warmth from him. His touch had a soothing effect and I couldn't help but soak in his essence.
“Don't just let them off the hook like that. They need to pay.” Colton whispered into my ears, causing shivers to run down my spine.
“What do you take me for darling…” I whispered back and I could almost see his smirk.
Just like I could see Sarah glaring at me in a mixture of anger and denial that I was here to take her crown away from her.
I refused to give them the satisfaction they wanted.
“Hey, why didn't anyone inform me that a party was going on?” Alvin's cheerful voice cut through the tense atmosphere, causing a little comic relief.
He stopped a few feet away from us and focused his gaze on the lying and cheating duo, with a smirk on his face and a slight shake of his head in disappointment.
“Oohh, I don't envy you. You touch Gramps' beloved granddaughter and expect to walk away a free man? Hell no.”
He hugged me sideways, making me smile softly at his unwavering support. Not many siblings would be happy at my return after all I was the prodigal daughter.
“You're going to give a speech tonight. I forgot to give you a hint. I'm sorry.” He added the last statement quickly so that I didn't flare up.
“What?!” I whisper-yelled, with my eyes widening in horror and lack of preparation.
He winked at me before returning his attention to the duo still bowing on the ground.
“Gramps, I think you should just kick them out, this isn't the place. I saw Leslie making a scene outside. I guess she was also thrown out?” He inquired with a bragging tone.
“You can't just throw me out, I have to meet the CEO of Parallel Inc.” Reid piped up in defiance.
I raised a brow. Maybe this was the best time to reveal my identity… or nah?
Alvin and I exchanged glances, followed by my grandfather before our gazes landed on him. “How dumb can you be?” Alvin mumbled under his breath, shaking his head in amusement.
“I can sue for humiliation. I'm a CEO for crying out loud!” Reid offered a pathetic comeback.
I chuckled at his words, was that the best he could come up with? How didn't I see him for the weakling he was? “Oh, I would love to see you try.” I responded.
“I wasn't talking to you. I need to leave now to meet the CEO of Parallel Inc.” He piped up again.
Spurred to anger I spoke, “I'm sorry to announce to you that the CEO of Parallel Inc doesn't wish to meet you.”
He glared at me. “And you know how?”
With a proud smirk, I replied “Because I am the CEO!”.
