Chapter 14

Luke

I don’t know for how long was I out but this is so far the best sleep I had in a long time. I had Ava wrap in my arms, I could smell her scent and feel the warmth of her body. Being next to them gave me a sense of peace but I needed to talk to her. I couldn’t delay the inevitable and I wanted to be able to express my feelings and my support. I know how hard it will be for Ava, so many things will change in her life, but I had to make sure she understood I was right here with her, all the way, whether she was my destined mate or not. I kept caressing her skin, I would never get tired of this. I felt my manhood getting hard as I slowly registered in my head how closed she was to me. God! I miss her so much, I missed to touched her and kiss her. I missed burying myself inside of her.

-Hi there! I can feel you are awake. – She said it a tone that let me to understand she felt my manhood poking her side.

- Hi beautiful. – I kissed her forehead. – I’m sorry about, THAT, but I can’t help it. I missed you so much and now that I was so closed to losing you Ava, I can not longer hold what I feel for you. I’ve tried to keep on with my life, to ignore my feelings after you expressed how little interest you had in a relationship with me, but you will have to let me try. I promise I will make you feel in love with me. – She was now looking deeply into my eyes. I wish I knew what she was thinking, I was nervous, I couldn’t afford to be rejected by her again.

- Luke, when I saw the hunter pointing that gun at you, I wanted to die with you and for you, not just because I’m your beta but because of how much I care for you. I don’t want a world without you neither. I’m sorry it took all this for me to accept this. – My heart was beating fast, overflowed with happiness. Ava was acknowledging her feelings for me. I took her face in my hands and gave her a deep soft kiss. She tasted different, like if I was having my favorite meal. My feelings for her were growing at a speed I couldn’t process. This right here was the description of my whole world. – A knock on the door forced me to break the kiss.

- May I come in? – Dr Scarlett said while picking inside the room.

- Yes please. –I replied to Scarlett. I saw Ava blushed and trying to sit down. I held her down.

- Don’t move babe, let the doctor check you first. – I could see her eyes wide open in surprise for the sudden show of public affection but as I said, I was done hiding my feelings for her. I got up from the bed to allow the doctor to do her job, but I stayed by her side.

- I meant to come in earlier but you both seem so deep sleep that I decided to let you rest some more. – She was looking at me curiously, no doubt because of our conversation about Ava being mated or not and the pregnancy of course.

- Now Ava, let me take a look at you. – She was inspecting her healed wound, her vitals and heartbeat. – Everything looks pretty good Ava, the last test results came back within normal parameters. I’m happy to let you know, you can be dismissed today. - She said with a grin on her face.

- Are you sure doctor? – I stepped in. Dr Scarlett knew what I was asking. Ava looked a little surprise by my question.

-Luke! I feel perfectly fine, why would you question the doctor? – She reprimanded me. – Excuse him doctor. I can’t wait to get out of here. 

- Yes Alpha, I’m sure. Everything is in perfect condition. – She said looking at me- and Ava, I’m very glad you are feeling better, you scared us all for a second there. Now there is an important matter we need to discuss. -My heart was beating fast, I know what she was going to talk about, my pup. I grabbed Ava’s hand. 

Ava

Luke grabs my hand after the doctor’s comment of having to talk to me about something that seem rather important. Was something wrong with me?

-Ok – Is what I managed to say. Ever since I woke up, I had a rollercoaster of emotions with Luke next to me. I couldn’t deny my feelings for him. I don’t know how we could do this but the idea of being away from him didn’t sit well with me.

- How comfortable are you about discussing personal information in front of your Alpha? – Dr Scarlett asks me as if Luke wasn’t there.  In total honestly, what could she possibly say to me that Luke couldn’t listen to. As I’m about to answer, Luke beats me to it.

- Believe me Doctor, what you need to discuss with Ava involves me completely.  – he said to her. – So, he already knew what was going on? Weird.

- Well, you can go on and talk in front of him doctor. Regardless, it seems he already knows what you are here to discuss with me. – I said while looking at the two of them. This was a little awkward.

- Yes, Ava I had to discuss certain details about your health with your Alpha since I understand you are not mated, as I could not see a mark on your neck, and not dating anyone, not certain that’s accurate anymore – she said while looking at Luke- so he was the one taking the decisions about your health. – I nodded. - There wasn’t nothing strange about that. Luke was my Alpha, and we were in another territory, he would have taken the responsibility for any wolf in a similar situation.

- Go on – I encouraged her to keep going as she appear to be given me the opportunity to assimilate the information she is providing.

- As a result of your wound, we had to run multiple tests and I understand the haze season is a time…- I could see her speaking but I wasn’t fully listening to her. All this explanation about something not related to my injury was freaking me out. Haze season? Mate? Luke saying, he was involved into what she had to discuss... – Oh God! – I tried to concentrate into what she was saying. – The heat is a pretty strong process – Why was she behaving like a teacher or giving me a speech about the haze? – I looked to my side and Luke seem pale, avoiding eye contact with me, pretending he was fully listening to every detail the doctor was saying. Can it be possible? Am I?

- I’m pregnant, am I not? – I asked them both. Luke didn't reply but kept holding my hand.

- Yes, you are Ava - Dr Scarlett answered me. - You are about one month and you are expecting one pup. Safe to say she or he is in great health, you have four more month to go before your due date. - She waited for a reaction but got none.

 -If you have any questions for me, please feel free to come find me. - The doctor said after a minute of me in shock and complete silence. As I saw her leave the room I turned to Luke.

- You got me pregnant!-
