"I will end you now" - Whispers Luke behind my neck. Somehow I managed to turn us around and be on top of him with my arm pressed on his neck. - "You were saying?" -I replied back to him with a smirk on my face. "Training is over" - Mr Leland shouted from the corner of the training ground. His tone of voice always demanded respect. He was a great fighter, that's the main reason he is responsible for training the pack warriors. He was on his mid fifties, dark skin, almost 6 feet tall and still very strong and in good shape. He was third in command a couple of years back until a very bad injury didn't heal properly. Luke and I both smiled. We always train together. He is to be Alpha and I will be his Beta, not because the position was given to me but I earned it. I was a restless fighter, committed to make my name known. After all, this position was supposed to go to the Beta's son Tobias but when we fought against each other for it I won. A beta was supposed to be the second strongest member of a pack and that I was.There is not bad blood in between us, we are all friends but I can tell his dad and current beta doesn't like me because of it. I couldn't care less, yes I was an orphan and that's why I had to fight so hard to become someone, I wasn't born into it hence I had to earn it. I had not time to lose so I can reach my goals. I wanted everyone to respect my name. " Ava come here" Luke was calling me. "Let's go grab something to eat" He said-  I nodded. - I was starving. - I won't lie to you, being a warrior had its benefits as I am very fit, my body is very nice build but on the other hand, I was treated like another boy, even though most of the time it didn't bother me. - Yeah, hurry up you sloth" - Tobias added with a smirk on his face. Tobias was the typical funny good lucking guy. Never took nothing too serious but he was a hell of a friend. - Shut up you mutt. - I said while pushing him away. We walked to the pack house, we were a big pack called Moonlight Pack. Everybody that's not mated eats here, the rest of the pack usually eat in their homes. We won't find our mates until we are 21 but most of us move in to the pack house when we graduate from high school. You could live with your parents if you wanted, but I didn't have that option. Luke lives in the pack house most of the time but he has his own bedroom at his parents house, more like a mansion, I would say, Tobias in the other hand, spends the whole day here but lives with his parents. We are the 3 musketeers, as I said before, I am another dude in their eyes. As we walked in we crossed path with Gale. - Hi Ava" he says. "Would you care to join me for dinner"? - Gale has had a crush on me since I can remember. He is the nerd of the pack. I raise my brows and Luke hit me with his elbow while trying to stop himself from laughing. Tobias has the same expression. "Mmm, I appreciate the offer Gale but I already made plans with these two" - I said pointing to my friends next to me. - Nonsense, don't let us stop you - Replies Luke. I am so going to kill him. - Yes Ava, don't let us ruin your chances of having a romantic dinner at the pack house where everybody else is eating" - Added Tobias and with that they both broke into nonstop laughter until their eyes had tears. I gave Gale an apologetic look and he turned around and left. Gale is a very white pal with white hair and super skinny. He was definitely not my type, he was kinda weak but he was a genius, well not with girls but with computers and stuff. He was nice though. - You guys are the worst. That's the example you want to give as an Alpha? - I pointed at Luke. As I mention that, Luke stopped laughing and composed himself. He began walking to an empty table. It felt like I was dealing with children. Most of the days went like that, we had to train early in the morning if you were a pack warrior like me and Tobias, then we had to go to classes and train again in the afternoon with the whole pack, it didn't matter your position. Everybody needed to know how to defend themselves. We finished high school a couple years ago, most of this generation had to pick jobs to replace the older ones. We needed pack doctors, nurses, accountants and all sort of regular professions but the strongest ones had double the work as we are also pack warriors. I've been doing online school for almost 3 years and about to finish my degree in management. I roll in the pack is already secure as the beta but I didn't want to fall behind and pushed myself the extra mile to be the best beta I could be for this pack and that included to know hoe to manage it. On the other hand Luke was taking business administration, we would make the perfect team to run this pack.
