Us Against the World

Chapter 2 - Ava-

The haze season is a time were every she wolf goes through heat. The desire of being with another wolf was unbearable and if you didn't have a mate, all unmated wolf will try to mate with you and you won't have enough power to stop them in your condition and they won't be able to stop themselves neither as it was an animalistic instinct to take a she wolf that was in heat. This is going to be my first year going through heat and I already planned on chaining my self to my bed and locking all doors. I didn't want to mate with anyone, I didn't want a mate at all. I had too many plans to fulfill and if I found a mate from another pack, I would have to leave the position I fought so hard for, so I could be with him on his pack, God only knows where. It wasn't an option for me. I will be the beta of this pack and that's it.

My phone buzzed. I received a text from Luke.

- Hey dude. Tobias and I wanna go for a drink, wanna join?

- Sure, I will be down in 10. - I replied.

I always spend my free time with them, there were the only ones that saw me as equals even though that meant they saw me as one of them not as a girl. I roll my eyes in my head. When did I start caring about that. They were my friends.

I put on my skinny jeans and a tank top and braided my long hair in the back and went downstairs.

The boys were waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs with Mila. - Of course she had to be here- I whispered to myself- I didn't like Mila, she was so feminine and such an actress. I won't lie and say she wasn't good looking because she was. She has short blonde hair and her make up and outfit is always on point. She didn't like me either but she pretended whenever she was in front of Luke because she knew he cared about me.

- Ready? - I asked them as I made it to the bottom of the stairs.

- Are you? - Mila replied looking at my outfit from head to toe with a disapproving look. I understood what she meant, she was implying I was underdressed.

- Are you blind? - I replied straight to her face. The boys were unbothered as usual.

She turned around and grabbed Luke's hand, giving me a menacing look.

Tobias put his arm around my shoulders and started walking. - Let's keep it moving ladies- he said with a smile on his face.

We went to the pub in town, in here you could meet up with other pack members, it was middle ground. It was in human territory but rarely visit by said humans. A lot of pack members found their mates here and we tried to behave whenever we came. Nobody wanted to start a war with another pack. Other members of our pack where already here, Luke as an Alpha already had a booth separated and waiting for us.

-  Beer for all? - Asks Tobias

- Yes please- I replied - Luke nods -

But of course Mila disagrees. - No Tobias, I don't like the taste of beer. I will have a martini. I roll my eyes. She thinks she is so fancy. Luke looks at me with an intense look. - What? - I mimic back to him.

- Stop it! - He murmurs back.

I throw my hands in the air. No because he is f*****g her I have to like her.

I decided to give them some space and while I grab my beer from Tobias hands, I go to the pool table. I can still see Luke sitting on his corner, with Mila glued to his side, whispering into his ear. He always has his guard up when we are out, after all he is soon to be Alpha and people had to respect him so he had to play the part.

- Hey beautiful! - A pretty good looking guy, said to me, interrupting my train of thought. I turned around to look at him, he is taller than me, bronze skin, dark hair, black eyes, all of him sending danger alarms with his bad boy looks. He is extremely handsome and has a smirk on his face.

- You got the wrong girl- I replied. He chuckles.

- I doubt that-  he replies as he tries to touch my braid but I stopped his hand mid way with a strong hold. For a quick second I saw his surprise look then a wide smile on his face.

- Hell yeahhhh! He shouted. - My type of girl, right here ladies and gentlemen.

I know I should make him shut up but I can't help but laugh. I guess I am liking a little bit of the attention.  Other members of his pack started laughing to, Tobias joined us and started to play pool. The night was going pretty well.

- So what's your name? - Bad boy asks me.

- Ava- What's yours? - I asked back.

- You can call me whatever you like, daddy is an idea! - I roll my eyes at him. - Keep dreaming! - I tell him while laughing.

- Ok, fine, as you wish. Carter! Very please to meet you tonight Ava. He got a little closer to me and took my scent in. - You smell good.

I took a step back - And you are very confident Mr Carter. I suggest you keep your hands to yourself.

- You heard the lady! - Luke said behind me.

It surprised me. I mean everyone new I could defend myself, not that I needed to be defended right now. I was actually having fun.

- The Alpha of the pack to the rescue! - Carter shouted again.

I turned to face Luke. - What's wrong? - I asked genuinely concerned.

- I am ready to leave. - He replied to me.

It was strange for him to want to leave early but I was his beta and I had to follow. - Of course. - I replied. - I could feel him tense, uneasy. He looked angrily at Carter and turn around.

As I was about to follow him Carter grabbed my hand. - I understand you have to leave, I know you are his beta, I am a beta myself, but here is my number. He put a piece of paper in my hands. I gave him a quick smile, turned and left.

The ride back to the pack was quicker than usual, Tobias stayed at the pub and it was Mila, Luke and I in the car.

Once on pack grounds I stepped out of the car, I knew Luke was going to bed with Mila so I only said - Good Night to both of them and walk to the woods so I could run without waiting for a reply.
