Chapter 8

Luke

I could not take it anymore. I've done nothing but try to do the right thing with Ava, but she is not interested, it pains me to realize she prefers anything or anyone but me. We have been friends, yes, but there is not going back. I will never touch her body and not feel like wanting to undress her and take her right then and there.

I had enough at the pub, had to get out of there or I could have started a war over a girl that didn't even want me. Watching her dance and flirt with him was more than I could handle right now.

- So, what's going on with you? - Mila asked next to me. I totally forgot about her. The way I see it, I got out of one situation right into another.

- I just have a lot on my mind. - I replied hoping she would drop the subject.

- You seem distracted and in a bad mood. Are you sure nothing else is bothering you?

- I'm sure. I just need to get out of here and rest.

- Well, we could rest together. You haven't stay over my place in a while. - She said expectantly.

- I'm really not in the mood for-

- That's not what I offer. You said you need rest; I can actually give you a message and let you sleep.

- Fine. - I replied. I hope I don't regret this.

While I was driving back to the pack, I decided to block all mind links. I really wanted to rest and disconnect myself for tonight and Mila was offering that. So why not bring my old self back.

Ava

I tried contacting Luke without luck. I wasn't in the mood for partying anymore, so I mind linked Tobias to let him know I was going home and went to the back of the pub towards the woods and shifted. I needed to run and think. My life had change so dramatically, first I went through heat for the first time, end up sleeping with my Alpha and friend with whom now I have the most awkward relationship because I cannot figure out what I want more, Luke or my position on the pack.

I've been so concentrated in my thoughts that I didn't hear someone following me until it was very closed to me. It was a dark brown wolf I have not seen before. I immediately went into defensive mode ready to attack whoever was catching up to me and then I heard him shift.

- Hey beautiful. You left the party without saying goodbye. Was the date going so bad? - Says a very naked Carter stepping out of the bushes.

I considered shifting in front of him but moved behind a tree and put my clothes back on. I had them in my mouth since I did not want to tear them apart when I shifted.

- I just needed some fresh air - I replied without looking at his nakedness.

- Understand. Do you mind the company?

- I was planning on figuring out some personal stuff. -

- Maybe I could advise you. I am a man of experience. - He says smirking.

- Maybe if you weren't fully naked, I would take you more seriously. - I replied.

- I'm not ashamed of myself. Being a werewolf and all, you know.

I couldn't help but laugh. Carter was a pretty good-looking man, why couldn't I be interested in someone like him?

- Right! - I said laughing.

- So, Ava when would you be turning 21?

- Wondering if I have a mate? - I asked him.

- Just making conversation. My 21st birthday was 3 years ago and still I haven't found my mate. I don't think the moon goddess made me one. - He says smirking but even though he makes it sound like he doesn't care you can tell that he does.

- She is out there. You will find her.

- Maybe she hasn't turned 21 yet. - He smiles again. Making conversation with Carter was easy but I was really done for tonight. I had too many personal matters to deal with.

- I must get back to my pack but I had a great night. Thank you for everything.

- I am glad you enjoyed it, so did I. Let me take you to your pack.

- Don't worry about it, I will run.

- I will raise you there. - and with that he started running. I didn't mind a friendly competition.

Carter stopped closed to our borders, I bowed my head to him and headed towards the back doors of the pack house while he turned around.

As I enter the kitchen getting dressed my heart stopped and jaw dropped. Luke was shirtless standing next to the kitchen island with a bottle of water in hand. I tried to dissimulate but I could not take my eyes of him. His body was ripped and very well-defined. I could not help but remember those arms around me, all the things he could make me feel. I could feel myself getting wet at the thought of what we have done before.

-Ava? – He said to me after awhile of me just staring at him. I was definitely f*****g him with my eyes and now I was embarrassed and had to say something.

- Luke, we missed you at the party. - I said while walking towards the other end of the kitchen. He smelled amazing today. I needed to keep my distance.

- Did you? - He said raising an eyebrow.

- Of course. - I replied nervously. - Everyone did.

- I doubt you missed me, as everyone else arrived 30 minutes ago but you. - He was looking straight into my eyes; he was making me nervous.

- Oh yes? I just needed to go for a run. - I said as if it was nothing.

- Were you running by yourself Ava? - He kept staring. I knew the border patrols must have told him a wolf from another back was closed to the pack borders.

- No- I said after what felt like too long.

- That's what I thought. - He said while turning around and walking away. I felt bad, guilty but why? I did not do anything wrong, but I felt the need to explain.

- It's not what you are thinking. - He stopped and without looking back at me said - I will see you tomorrow, Mila is waiting for me. - And kept on walking towards Mila's room. My heart shattered. I wish a could have it all, Luke, my beta position and my friend. This situation was making me doubt myself. Would it be so bad to give us a chance? Would it be so bad if I gave up my beta title for the Luna one?

I went to my room and took a shower. I needed to think deep and figure out what I really wanted so I could fight for it. If that something turns out to be Luke, Mila better get ready. I’ve never lost a fight and wasn’t about to start.

Luke POV

After seeing Ava I couldn’t go back to Mila’s room. Not that I really wanted to be there in the first place. She doesn’t get tired of trying to seduce me and I’m just not interested anymore. Something else is on my mind now, I meant someone else is and I couldn’t stop the feelings my wolf and I were getting when Ava entered the kitchen. She wouldn’t stop looking at us and after hearing I was going to Mila’s room she got upset. I will play my last card. I will play hard, I will either lose her or win her forever after this. I’m just hoping she wants me as much as I want her.
