Chapter 12

Luke POV

I just killed someone's woman, as I was finishing her up, I could hear Ava screaming and running my way. I could hear bullets all over the place, so I didn't realize this specific one was towards me until Ava pushed me and we both fell on the ground. I quickly got up and shifted to go after whoever shot at me, but Ava wasn't getting up, I started to panic.

- Ava! I screamed and went quickly to her side. She was still in wolf form.

- Please shift for me. - I whispered to her. I was nervous, scared and when she shifted, I couldn't take it. She was shot in the chest. She wasn't going to make it. Not here, not in this pack. They didn’t have the medical equipment to treat her.

- Ava, please. Keep your eyes open. - Blood was flooding out of her chest as I tried to cover it with my hands. - Why would you do this? - I said with tears falling nonstop. She opened her eyes a little and whispered.

- I am your beta and will give my life for you anytime. - And with that she passed out.

-No, nooo, nooo. AVA WAKE UP! - I was losing it, screaming at her, holding her tight, I wasn't aware of my surroundings, wolfs from the pack were chasing the remaining hunters. I didn't care about nothing else. She was dying in my arms. Her body was covered in blood, my beautiful Ava. – You can’t do this to me, I need you Ava. I’m sorry I wasn’t treating you nicely. Ava please don’t do this to me. Tobias came running.

- Luke! OMG, is she dead? - I glared at him.

- Sorry! - he replied and shouted- We need a doctor, is an emergency. - He kept shouting.

Mila came running, I didn't want to let het touch her. She didn't even like Ava.

- Luke, I am at doctor remember. Let me look. - Even though I didn't want to, I didn't have many other options. I grabbed Mila's hands and look straight in her eyes.

- Do not let her die or I will kill you myself. - She was taken aback by my comment, but I couldn't care less, I was done pretending. I wanted Ava and I was not ready to lose her.

Mila was checking Ava’s pulse.

-She is alive but not healing, that means the silver bullet in still inside. She looked at her back trying to find an exit wound, but she couldn’t find one. All around us was chaos, we had gravely wounded wolves and Alpha Raphael was being carried inside, I could tell he was dead. I looked back at Mila and Ava, she was talking to me and asking me something, but I was still in shock.

-Luke, we must take her to the pack hospital. Now! – She said louder so I could react. Once she was inside the hospital we were kept outside waiting. I sat in a chair with my head between my hands. I don’t know what I would do if she doesn’t make it. My heart was broken, this is something I’ve never felt before, this kind of pain was unbearable. I felt like I was losing a part of myself, my other half.

- How is she doing? – I could hear Carter asking Tobias.

- We don’t know yet. We are still waiting. – Tobias replied.

After like felt like forever a female doctor came to talk to me. Ava was alive but in a coma. Apparently, the silver bullets also had wolfbane which is mortal to werewolf. There are certain wounds that could kill a wolf regardless of our ability to heal fast. If your wounds were severe enough, your body could shut down before you were able to heal.

We’ve been at Point Black pack for 3 days now. Their medical team wasn't the biggest, but they were well prepared. Ava was still in a coma, but she is alive. I wanted to move her back to my pack, where I knew I could keep her safe, but I couldn’t risk her safety. Her wound was finally closed after the silver and wolfbane was taken out. The process of healing has been super slow. She lost a lot of blood. If she wasn't a werewolf, she would be dead. I didn't even want to think about that. I needed to go find her doctor for an update.

- Doctor Scarlett. - I called her name and knocked in her door even though it was open.

- Alpha Luke. Please come in. I am sorry I haven't been available to give you updates on Ava myself. With all the wounded, it has been a hectic week. I hope everything has been explain to you as I instructed the nurses.

- Yes, thank you. They have kept me updated but I needed to ask you some questions.

- Sure, go ahead.

- When could I arrange for her to be transported to my pack? It could be by air, road, however you seem fit. – I asked her.

- Well, she is doing better. She has recovered most of her blood and her vitals are improving, however there is a pressing matter I need to discuss first.

- Yes Doctor, go ahead.

- Is Ava mated? I mean I couldn't find a mark on her neck but is she dating anyone?

- She is not mated- I answered a little confused. -What does that had to do with her health? If you need any sort of approval Doctor, I will take full responsibility.

- Yes, that's not quite the issue and I don't feel comfortable discussing it with anybody that is not her or her partner. – She said back to me.

- I am certain Ava doesn't keep any secrets from me doctor, she doesn’t have a mate or family members. I’m the closest thing to family to her so go ahead and tell me what the problem is so we can move on with my next question. – She looks at me for way too long before saying.

- Alright then Alpha, just promise me your discretion. - I nodded.

- Well Ava is pregnant. She is carrying a pup and she has around one month. So I calculate it was around the haze season. Which is highly likely to happen when a she wolf is in heat and...

The doctor kept talking but I wasn't listening anymore. Ava was carrying my pup, she was pregnant and she almost die because of me. I will never forgive myself if anything happens to them. I was in absolute shock. I was going to be a dad?

- Alpha, are you alright? - The doctor asked me with a confused look.

- Yes, I am sorry. Keep going.

- I will order a new ultrasound and if I feel like the pup is strong enough, I will give you the ok for transportation.

- Thank you. I will be waiting for your update. - I responded in slow motion. I was going to be a dad. I saw the doctor go passed me and I just stayed there staring at the wall. I wonder if Ava knew. Probably not.

A nurse came to me - Alpha!

-Yes?

- Ava is about to wake up. - She gave me a shy smile and turned.

I ran to her side. This conversation was going to be interesting because that woman was mine and she was carrying my pup. She will have to accept me, there is no other choice.
