Chapter 10

Ava

I’ve decided not to go on with the double date, first off, I didn’t want to trick Carter into thinking I was into him just to send a message to Luke, it was rather selfish and second the thought of seeing Mila and Luke on top of each other made me nauseous.

After that day, my relationship with Luke had deteriorated enormously. We weren’t friends, lovers or a good team for that matter. I felt like he had shut me out and as his beta I couldn’t let that happen. What kind of second in command could I be if I couldn’t protect my Alpha.

My phone buzzed; it was a message from Luke.

Luke: We are leaving first thing in the morning to the Point Black Pack, we need to confirm the new tactics are working and bullet proof the rest.

-I will be ready.

Luke: We are spending the night. – He texted back.

-Yes, sir. –

I decided to get my stuff ready, and blow dry my hair, after all we are leaving incredibly early, and I wanted to be on time. That is the only reason why I’m paying so much attention to my outfit and appearance.

I went downstairs for dinner and spend some time with Tobias, Brad and Laura. Laura and I were getting closer to each other, it was nice to have another female in the crew. She was incredibly sweet, very curly red hair and thick body shape, she was warrior after all. Luke has been avoiding me like the plague, but that was coming to an end. I will make sure of it. We’ve called it a night early since all of us, but Laura had to be back here at 6:00 am.

 I could hardly sleep, I wasn’t feeling myself, kind of nervous I may add.

When I got up, earlier than necessary and started getting ready. I decided for a tank top, leather pants and combat boots. I knew I looked badass but ready to fight. I added some light make up, which was unusual, but I wanted to give a good impression to the other pack, at least that’s what I told myself. When I get downstairs, I see Mila with a bag.

- Where are you going? - I asked with a not so friendly tone.

- I am going with you guys, my boyfriend invited me. - she gets closer to me as if she were going to tell me a secret. - I think he is getting me ready for the Luna position. Don't you think? - She asks me. I knew the intentions of her words. I didn't reply and keep walking towards the cars putting some distance between her and I. When I saw Luke I approached him.

 -Why is she going with us? - I asked without hiding my discomfort.

- Do you have a problem with it? - He replied, now looking at me.

- That means more people to protect. - I said as an excuse. A lame excuse.

- Don't worry about Mila. I will take care of her. - He raised his brows as if challenging me to say something else. I turned around and walked away. I couldn't believe him. He was doing this on purpose.

This time Tobias was driving, I was in the passenger sit and Mila and Luke in the back sit. We had one more car following us with two more guards, Brad being one of them. I tried to focus on the street as we left the pack.

 I was sure I wasn't going to enjoy this trip at all. I could hear the whispers between Mila and Luke. I made the mistake to look back and she was all over him, talking into his ear as he kept smiling and laughing at her little jokes.

- Hey guys, I need a quick stop to freshen up and some air! At this pace I will end up riding Luke in front of you two. -Mila said to Tobias and me. I turned around in shock.

 - We've been on the road for less than an hour Mila, at this PACE- I said making emphasis in Pace, we are going to take forever to arrive. - I said looking at the two of them now.

 - Let her be Ava and stop at the next gas station. – Replied Luke. I looked at him in disbelief, he was seriously ok with it, then fine. Tobias gave me an exasperated look. I knew he wasn't happy with the situation neither.

 Once we stopped, Luke spoke again. - Ava, follow Mila to the bathroom and make sure she is safe. I was fuming, but I wasn't going to show it.

- Yes, Alpha. I replied. Stepping out of the car and babysitting Mila on her way to the bathroom. Tobias and Luke stayed in the car because seriously how needed to take a break after being less than an hour on the road.

- He is a great boyfriend, isn't he? – Mila asks.

 - Sure – I replied uninterested in this conversation.

-You know Ava, there was a time when I thought you guys liked each other but I am glad it was all in my head. Everything is falling into place. I will be Luna and you his beta and I am ok with that. Each one of us where we belong - She smiled widely and went into the bathroom.

- Where we belong my ass – I said to myself.

 I waited outside of the bathroom and grabbed a couple bottles of water for the trip. While I was paying, Mila passed by me to the car. I called at her,

- Mila, wait. - She kept walking like she didn't hear me. We were werewolf, there is no way she didn't hear. I finished paying and went to the car. I could feel a little tension.

- There you are Ava. – Mila says - I thought you were supposed to make sure I was ok but I couldn't see you anywhere.

- Maybe you need glasses and hearing aids then - I spit back to her. Who does she think she is playing with?

- OMG Ava you don't have to be so rude. If you didn't like my comment about being Luke's Luna you could of just have said it. – She says back getting everyone’s attention.

- Mila! I don't know what type of game… Luke cut me mid-sentence.

- Stop. Ava, when I instruct you to do something please follow through, you are a beta for a reason, behave like it. - Tobias looked at me and back at Luke and Mila. A surprise look on his face. My eyes got watery, full of tears I won't shed. He could try to humiliate me with everything he wanted but not with the position I worked so hard for. It hurt me. I shifted in my seat uncomfortably, but I had to do this. He will see that I took my job seriously.

After one more stop in our three-hour drive, where Luke got out of the car to make sure his girlfriend was alright, I kept myself outside of the store each time. Not even giving him a glance, we arrived at the Point Black Pack. They had prepared a welcoming party with plenty of food and drinks for after our initial meeting.

- Alpha Luke, Ava. - Alpha Raphael greeted us - Glad to see you could make it. - Alpha Raphael was too old to keep his title, but he never had kids. He was considering other relatives to take his place soon, but he had done a great job taking care of his small pack. That’s why we are here, to ensure the safety of the pack and that’s why he made the allegiance years ago.

- Hi Alpha Raphael, I am glad to be back. Let's get to it- I responded to the man. – The rest also greeted him.

- Please follow me so we can go over the strategies we have implemented base on your recommendations. He said to us.

- Ava and I will go to the meeting with Alpha Raphael. Tobias, you and the rest get settle. – Luke ordered and stared following Raphael to his office.
