CHAPTER 3
Ethan
***
Unbelievable, I was going to get married tomorrow. The reality was still not sinking in, and this made me restless. This wonderful spring day was doing nothing to calm my nerves.
And my soon-to-be-wife did everything to piss me off. She didn’t say yes for three months, and then when she agreed, she again put the condition that she needed five more months to deal with this.
Fucking unbelievable! This woman is nuts.
I was with Tyson in the garden, enjoying this walk with him. But this peace was short lived as my friends had decided to show up at my house. This was going to be one hell of an evening.
As their cars approached, Tyson and I made our way to them.
“What the f**k you all are doing here?” I asked in utter annoyance.
“Reynolds, change your habits. You’re getting married now. This is not a nice way to welcome guests,” Jasper said with obvious smirk on his face. I’d love to punch that stupid face.
“Guests, my foot,” I glared at him. But they all ignored me and circled Tyson that loved so much attention.
Attention seeker.
Seriously, why you all are here?” I asked again, throwing my hands up in the air.
“We are here for your bachelor’s party,” Aaron shrugged with a straight face.
Bloody arrogant ass!
“There is no bachelor’s party. Now, get lost and leave me alone.”
“So rude, boss,” Jaden said.
And this boss will make your life f*****g nightmare in the office.
I was so damn angry at these idiots. They knew that it wasn’t a normal marriage, still they’d talk as if it was real one.
They all walked entered inside leaving me alone, even Tyson followed them. But he did looked back and gave me his puppy dog eyes, pleading me to come inside.
Grabbing beer bottles, they all sat comfortably in my living room, putting on some music. Jaden was busy raiding my kitchen— god knew what he was looking for.
Jasper had unscrew the bottle but I snatched it from him and gulped down some of it. Then I turned the volume down.
“This is unfair,” he said.
“Go, sue me.” I smirked at him and drank some of the beer again.
“So, how are you feeling, boss?” Jaden asked, entering the living room. He had bowl of my hand cooked lemon garlic chicken in one hand and few chips packets in the other.
“Your boss looks like a child whose favorite cartoon program has been canceled, forever,” Aaron said this with a laughter. Yeah! My misery brought him out of his misery.
Fucker!
“I don’t understand why the hell I tolerate you?” I glared at Jaden.
“Because, your company is the only place where I could lay low. Besides being your assistant I the easiest job to do,” He shrugged.
“What the hell? You could be Jasper’s assistant,” I said.
“No. I will not hire him as my assistant. I prefer my assistant with law background, not some air head price charming,” Jasper said instantly.
“You offend me, Jasper.” Jaden glared at him.
“I don’t f*****g care, Your Highness.”
“Hey! This evening isn’t about me. Ethan is getting married. I can’t believe you are the first one to get married.” And… the conversation was back on me.
“Have you talked to her?”
“Did you go on a date with her?”
“What is she like?”
“Where are you going on your honeymoon?”
“And for how long?”
I just sat there and listened to their ridiculous questions. I didn’t even bothered to pay attention who asked what.
“What the bloody hell are you? You are worse than teenagers,” I glared at these bloody men.
They all laughed, and Jasper stood up and left the room. Then he came back with two vodka bottles in his hands. I needed a strong drink.
After gulping down four shots, my muscles relaxed a bit.
“Why are you so tense?” Aaron asked, pouring another shot for himself and I.
“She is messing with my brain. She had dragged this marriage for eight months and I feel f*****g helpless now. She has all the power. And on top of that, she is Chris’ sister. And I have been tolerating his nonsense ever since this marriage talk has started. He made sure that all the discussing would be with him only, not his parents. And don’t get me started on what bloody excuses he gave me to postpone this talk. He argued for twenty minutes over the fact that he couldn’t talk since he had had a dental implant and his dentist had refrained him from talking, and he thought I’d buy his bullshit. Trust me, consider yourself luck if your wife doesn’t have a brother. These brother-in-laws are f*****g pain in the ass.” I blurted out some of my feelings.
They all had are-you-f*****g-serious expression on their faces, mocking me.
“The bloody hell, Ethan. You’re not marrying your brother-in-law. Besides, he’s already married and he is not going to attend the wedding as well. Now tell us, what is real reason of your grumpy mood.”
“She is the same girl,” I said, gulping down my drink.
“What? The one in the photo?” Jasper asked with interest. I so want to punch Jason —Jaden’s twin — for exposing this secret of mine. He found out by mistake and then told the whole team while we were on a mission in Bulgaria. Since then, these assholes wouldn’t let any opportunity to slide to remind me of her.
“No.” I dragged the word. “She is not her. But the other girl.”
“Other girl?” Aaron asked this.
“The one from the restaurant,” I replied with gritted teeth. I didn’t want to tell this to anyone but I guessed vodka had started its work.
“What restaurant?” Aaron asked. Then I told them about the girl I saw in the restaurant leaving few details out.
“So what the bloody problem is?” Jaden said. And… people thought he was well mannered.
“The problem is, she is messing with my brain. Why is she her? This is chaos, everything is slipping out of control. At first I liked her, but then I heard something about her which isn’t nice at all. But the problem is, I don’t want to marry anyone but her. Why would I want to marry a girl I don’t like.”
“You’re a f*****g headache, Ethan.” Jasper scrunched his nose up.
“Did you even try to know her? Like taking her on a date?” Jaden asked.
“No. Her brother made it sure that she doesn’t want to be seen with me before wedding,” I scoffed.
“Ooohhh!! This must have hurt your elephant-ass size ego!” Aaron said.
“My ego is fine.”
“Look man, although I haven’t met Crystal at all but I never heard anything bad about her,” Jasper said and when he said her name it did something to me. I felt a weird feeling. Why her name has to sound somewhat identical to that little girl in the photo.
“You haven’t heard what I have heard, so don’t lecture me,” I glared at my friend.
“Man, do you even realize you’re freaking out now?” Jaden said and I frowned.
Bloody hell! He was right. I had been freaking out because of the girl I haven’t had any decent conversation with even though we came face to face during some of my business visits to her father’s office.
Had she been avoiding me?
“Okay, whatever you’re feeling now, just figure it out and please keep our anger at bay. Last thing you need in this relationship is to scare her off the first day.” Aaron poured himself a drink and gulped down.
“Of course.” Scare off? That I can do— very easily. Daddy’s little princess needed to know that how scary I could get.
But how?
