Daily Life of Magical Girls
“Wow, what an unusual lizard,” Zina muttered absently, bending slightly to take a closer look.
The lizard turned its head towards her, and to Zinas astonishment, it spoke, “You seem troubled. Why don’t you share your concerns with me?
Zina gasped, taking a step back. “A talking lizard?!” she exclaimed, her voice betraying a mix of surprise and curiosity. The creature looked at her with an expression that was almost weary.
“Humans always fear the unknown,” it sighed, “but you need not worry. I will not harm you.”
Zina, her curiosity overpowering her initial shock, asked, “Who… who are you?”
The lizard’s expression became reflective, as though recalling something from a distant past. “I have many names, but most call me Mentor,” it said.
“Mentor? What do you do?” Zina asked
“I teach humans various types of knowledge,” replied Mentor, “though nowadays, I don't teach much anymore. But I can still grant one wish to those who are worthy.”
Zina’s eyes lit up, a hint of disbelief mixing with excitement. “Really? You can grant me a wish?”
Mentor nodded. “Of course. However, to grant your wish, you must take on the responsibility of becoming a Magical Protector and fighting Desire Followers to defend this world.”
“Desire Followers? Magical Protector? What are those?” Zina asked, her brows furrowed in confusion.
“Desire Followers are those who have been tempted by the Serpent of Desire and have gained abilities fueled by their darkest wishes,” Mentor explained. “To maintain these powers, they prey on the essence of others, particularly those whose innocence fuels their desires. Magical Protectors, on the other hand, are warriors who possess the strength to combat these followers. You have a special quality that makes you suited for this task.”
Zina paused, the gravity of the situation beginning to dawn on her. Then, she nodded. “I understand. I’m willing to become a Magical Protector if it means I can protect others.”
Mentor’s eyes twinkled knowingly. “Very well. State your wish. As a Magical Protector, you’re entitled to one wish as your reward.”
Zina thought for a moment, then said firmly, “I wish to be strong enough to protect those around me.”
Mentor nodded. “A noble wish. Hold out your hand.”
A glowing seed appeared atop Mentor’s head, resembling a small, luminescent stone. “Absorb this seed, and it will grant you the power to protect others,” Mentor said.
Zina took the seed and, following Mentor’s instructions, felt it dissolve into her palm. A warmth surged through her, traveling up her arm and settling in her chest. A sense of power and calm settled within her.
Curious, she asked, “I feel like there’s something new inside me. What is it?”
“That is your power,” Mentor said. “Try to communicate with it.”
Zina closed her eyes, focusing inward. Soon enough, a translucent shield appeared before her—half real, half ethereal.
The shield can passively protect up to three people in danger, but it won’t protect you, as your wish was specifically to protect others.”
I’m satisfied with this.”
Mentor continued, “If you wish to transform into a Magical Protector, simply will it in your heart. As for Desire Followers, you can use your new power to sense their presence and track their aura.”
Later that evening, Zina stood before an abandoned building at the edge of town. The sun had set, and the air was heavy with anticipation. The shield shimmered faintly in her hand, and she felt ready.
Beside her were her allies—Lila, a woman who could summon protective barriers, and Eric, an experienced tracker with a knack for finding weaknesses.
“Are we ready?” her blue eyes reflecting determination.
Lila smiled, her eyes alight with confidence. “Of course. We’re in this together.”
Eric nodded. “And tonight, we’re not just defeating the Desire Followers. We’re liberating those who’ve lost themselves to their darkest impulses.”
Together, they stepped into the building. In the shadows, they saw him—a Desire Follower. He had once been an ordinary man, but his pursuit of endless pleasure had led him down a dark path. The air was thick with a dark aura, and Zina could sense the turmoil within him.
“You don’t have to do this,” Zina called out. “There’s still time for you to turn back. We can help you.”
The Desire Follower hesitated, a flicker of humanity crossing his eyes. The darkness around him wavered. Lila raised her barrier, deflecting an incoming attack, while Eric quickly located the source of the dark energy—a rune carved into the wall.
“There!” Eric pointed. Without hesitation, Zina rushed forward, her spear striking the rune. In that instant, the darkness shattered, and the man collapsed, his eyes clearing.
“Thank you…” he whispered, tears welling up. “Thank you for freeing me.”
Zina knelt beside him, her voice soft. “You still have a chance. You can make things right.”
And in that moment, Zina realized that being a Magical Protector wasn’t just about power. It was about giving others hope, even in their darkest moments.
Days passed since Zina’s first encounter with a Desire Follower, but her mind was anything but peaceful. There were so many questions—about Mentor, about the Serpent of Desire, and about her own future. Though she wanted to focus on her studies, balancing her normal life and her responsibilities as a Magical Protector wasn't easy.
One afternoon, while lounging in her apartment, Zina stared at her reflection in the mirror. She saw herself—a university student, but also something more. The seed that Mentor had given her had transformed her in ways she couldn't fully grasp.
“Why was I chosen?” she murmured to herself.
The mirror's surface seemed to shimmer, and Mentor appeared, as if responding to her thoughts. “You were chosen because you have the strength of heart that others do not. You have compassion.”
Zina frowned, her reflection blurring. “But why me? Why must I fight?”
Mentor looked at her with gentle eyes. “Every Protector faces this question, Zina. You fight not because you must, but because you chose to. The power within you reflects your desire to protect, and that makes you worthy.”
Zina sighed, closing her eyes.
One late evening, Zina was wandering the streets, her thoughts swirling, when she heard the distinct sound of metal clashing. Alert, she turned towards the noise. In a dimly lit alley, she saw a figure clad in dark armor—a stranger fighting off several Desire Followers.
His swift, precise movements were mesmerizing. The power he wielded was different from hers, darker yet refined. The Followers seemed formidable, but this stranger fought them with an elegance that betrayed experience.
Without hesitation, Zina summoned her shield and rushed into the fray. She stepped between the stranger and a Desire Follower, her shield deflecting the attack.
The stranger turned, his face obscured beneath a dark helm. “Who are you?” he demanded, his voice cold.
“I'm Zina, a Magical Protector. I’m here to help,” she replied, her voice unwavering.
He hesitated, then nodded. Together, they fought off the remaining Followers. When the last of them vanished, the stranger faced Zina.
“You shouldn’t have interfered,” he said bluntly. “This is dangerous work.”
Zina crossed her arms. “I know the risks. But I won’t stand by while others suffer.”
The stranger studied her for a moment before his voice softened. “My name is Kael. We will meet again, Zina.” With that, he turned and disappeared into the night.
Zina watched the empty alleyway, her heart pounding. There was something about Kael—something enigmatic. She knew her questions had only just begun.
Chapter 5: The Serpent of Desire
It wasn’t long before Mentor summoned Zina and her friends for an urgent mission. Mentor’s voice was grave. “The Serpent of Desire has awoken. It is the source of the power that corrupts people into Desire Followers. We must find and weaken it before it grows too strong.”
Lila’s face paled, her fingers trembling. “The Serpent… it’s that powerful?”
Mentor nodded. “Yes. Its influence is vast, and it manipulates the hearts of humans. But you have each other, and you are strong enough to resist.”
Eric clenched his jaw, determination in his eyes. “We have to do this. We can’t let anyone else fall into darkness.”
Zina took a deep breath, feeling the warmth of the power within her. She knew this would be their greatest challenge yet, but she couldn’t afford to let fear control her.
The group set off, following Mentor’s guidance. As they neared the Serpent’s lair, its malevolent energy grew palpable. The atmosphere was oppressive, the air thick with tension.
“Stay close,” Zina instructed, her voice unwavering. “We’ll get through this together.”
The Serpent of Desire was enormous—a dark, sinuous mass of energy, its eyes glowing with an unnatural light. It hissed, and its voice echoed within their minds, whispering their deepest fears and insecurities.
Lila’s barrier flickered, her voice shaky. “It’s… it’s inside my head,” she whimpered, tears streaming down her face.
“Hold on, Lila!” Eric shouted. “It’s trying to break us down!”
Zina stepped forward, her shield glowing brighter. She focused on the warmth within, on her wish to protect. She felt the power surge through her, pushing against the darkness.
“You have no power here!” Zina shouted, her voice commanding. She struck out with her spear, the light from her shield growing blindingly bright.
The Serpent roared, its form beginning to crack. Zina could feel its power weakening. She glanced back at her friends—Lila’s barrier had regained its strength, and Eric was guiding her, finding the Serpent’s weak points.
With one final strike, Zina drove her spear into the Serpent’s core. A flash of brilliant light erupted, and the Serpent let out a final, guttural cry before dissolving into nothingness.
As the light faded, Zina found herself standing in a vast emptiness. The Serpent was gone, and the darkness had lifted. She turned to her friends, relief washing over her.
“We did it,” she whispered, her voice breaking with emotion. Lila and Eric rushed to her, embracing her tightly.
Mentor appeared, pride shining in his eyes. “You have done well, Zina. You’ve shown that true strength is not in power but in the desire to protect others.”
Zina nodded, her heart full. She knew there would be more challenges ahead, but she also knew she was not alone. She had her friends, and together, they could face whatever the future held.
Epilogue: A New Beginning

And somewhere in the shadows, Kael watched, a faint smile playing on his lips. He knew Zina was different—that she had the power to make a real difference. And he would be there, ready to help her whenever she needed him.
The world Zina lived in was still filled with mysteries, but she was no longer afraid. She was ready for whatever came next, knowing she was a protector—a Magical Protector driven by hope and the desire to change the world.
