Then a thought hit me, why is Jessica here anyways? Jessica was a trained OB, not a psychologist. She would have had to go through the training for her degree at some point, but still. It wasn’t like we were extremely close or even knew each other that well.
“Jessica can I ask you something?”
“Friends don’t have to ask to ask questions,” she smiled.
“What are you doing here? Why would you even want to help in my practice?”
“I would like to say it surprised me that he didn’t tell you, but it doesn’t.”
“Who didn’t tell me what?” I questioned.
Right then, both our heads turned as heated conversation was coming from the front of the office. I knew right then that my early thought was wrong. No one would be giving Blake forgiveness anytime soon. I got up and headed for the front of the office. With Jessica right on my heels and we both stopped when we saw Samuel and Blake fighting. I wish I could be surprised at this point, but nothing surprised me these days. Well aside from Samuels new found soft side. I had to hold back my smile as Jessica watched me closely. Looking more concerned and confused with everything going on in the room, not just my sudden lack of caring.
Before I would have just jumped in, trying to separate the fight or disagreement. Do everything I could to make things better for everyone. Sticking my nose exactly where it didn’t belong! Well not this time, I knew exactly why they were fighting. Samuel needed to release some frustration and he’d been holding this one back for too long I’d imagine. Jessica gripped my arm and pulled me back behind her, as though I was a defenseless human.
“What the hell are you doing here?” She yelled.
Clearly directing her anger toward Samuel, because she would have been working alongside Blake this whole time. A ping of defensiveness raised within me, after all, Samuel had been trying to help me in his own way.
“Took you long enough,” I laughed.
If Samuel was going to lose his composure with Blake, I would have assumed that to happen in the office. When Blake and I were closer than friends typically were. Especially friends who left things on such rocky terms as we had done. Jessica whipped around, and I could feel the tension boiling off her.
“What!” She snapped.
“Don’t take that tone with her Jessica!”
Samuel jumped to my defense as quickly as I had jumped to his. Jessica’s mouth dropped open as she looked between Samuel and me. I could see the distain written all over her face and for once I didn’t care. I was tired of being a people pleaser.
Jessica wasn’t allowed to have an opinion on my relationships or friendships for that matter. Her pack was the one that decided I wasn’t good enough for their alphas.
“Not wasting time Lily,” Blake chimed in.
I opened my mouth to inform him that he really didn’t get a say in anything I did. However, Samuel beat me to it as he grabbed Blake by the throat. Thrusting him backward until Blake’s back was slammed into the filling cabinet.
“Watch your mouth!” Samuel growled.
“Trust me, I would be happy if she were with anyone but those assholes,” Blake hissed.
As much as I enjoyed hearing Blake say that, I would also enjoy watching him get a bit of an ass kicking. Now wasn’t the time or the place, I mean a patient could walk in at any moment. I walked over to the men and placed a hand on Samuel’s shoulder.
“Now isn’t the time,” I said to Samuel.
Without a response Samuel released his hold on Blake. Backing up from the reception desk, as he placed his hands in his pockets. I squeezed my lips together as I held back my smile. The sight of Samuel trying to appear as a trained dog. I could feel all eyes fixed on me, but I couldn’t seem to look away from Samuel.
I finally pulled my attention away from Samuel and turned to look at Jessica. I was surprised to see Blake standing beside her. The two of them appearing comfortable together. More comfortable than I liked to see, how easily it seemed for them to form some kind of bond.
“How many of my patients have you been seeing daily?” I politely asked.
“Most of your patients were comfortable rescheduling, until you got back that is,” Blake answered.
“I’ve only seen a few in the past few weeks. As Blake said most of them were comfortable rescheduling. We told them you had a family emergency to tend to, so I filled medications when needed.” Jessica added.
I walked over to Jessica and embraced her in a tight hug. Trying to show her the gratitude I wasn’t able to verbally express.
“It’s ok Lily, I would have helped even if not asked.” Jessica gasped out, “you are crushing me though.”
I let go immediately, “which one asked you to help?” I questioned.
“First tell me how you are so strong, especially now!” She quipped.
“Well I am a vampire after all,” I smiled. “You’re turn.”
“You should ask your new friend,” she sneered.
I turned to look at Samuel, but he was no longer there. Why would he ask Jessica to help of all people? He can’t stand their pack, plus her helping me wouldn’t help him in any way. I turned back around to see her standing with hands propped on her hips.
Giving a more than disapproving look as she snarled her lips up. I looked at Blake and he held both hands up in an innocent nature. It made me smile to see I had more friends than I realized, more so that they were fussing so much.
“Well, what do you have to say for yourself?” Jessica asked.
“It isn’t what you think.”
“Lily don’t be an i***t. Samuel is just manipulating you to get under Wyatt and Greyson’s skin.”
“Not like that would do him any good now!” I snapped.
“Lily we care about you, and just want to make sure you’re okay. Maybe it’s just too soon to get involved in something else,” Blake said putting a hand on my shoulder.
“Samuel and I aren’t together so you all have nothing to worry about.” I shrugged away from Blake, “Jessica if you comfortable with things here, I am just going to go back home.”
Jessica nodded, and I turned to walk out the doors. I glanced back at them one last time before I headed into the hall. The elevator was still waiting on my floor and I couldn’t have been more grateful to not have to wait. I was enjoying the fresh air as I walked down the busy streets of Manhattan. I wanted to be home to relax but being outside was a nice change of pace after the past couple of weeks. I didn’t even notice that I was not going to my apartment until my feet stopped. I looked around and then up the building in front of me, and all I could think was why? Without realizing it, I had walked to Wyatt and Greyson’s office building. I didn’t want to go in, I thought of turning and leaving. However, my body had plans of its own as I was opening the lobby door and walking in to the security desk.
