Chapter 26 - The Chick

Chalice... Honestly, cities in the Godlic were not seemingly familiar. We do communicate with the leaders outside of our realm, but it wasn't me who made the talking for I have other responsibilities that needs my presence. Or maybe, they always chose the wrong timing. When they plan to have a word with me, I wasn't physically there. So instead, I just sent my message through Rin who's in charge. But the Chalice... I think I heard of it before but I just don't know how. But if I do, I'd probably just remember the small details as I'm not really someone who stick my nose with other rulers unless it concerns me and my kingdom. And if I did hear of it, I assumed people talked about was issues. "Alright, we have arrived to the mainland," Deniz announced as we finally went down from the tall mountain. Terran grabbed my arm gently when a man carrying a heavy load on his back walked side me, shouting as he pants due to tiredness. The whole place was chaotic. There were a lot of people, and mostly their clothes were torn and dirty. We can barely walk in the busy streets without bumping arms-to-arms, some even went far and step on my feet which I endured. These people's foot were so heavy I think mine would break. "Just hold onto me, princess. You don't want to get lose, do you?" Terran babbled, but it was him who held onto me tightly, making sure I wouldn't get too push. "You're the one who's holding me, Terran," I reminded him while roaming my eyes around, feeling his fingers to my delicate skin. "Yeah, right..." he chortled and never bothered to talk again as we walked through the heavy loaded street. I've noticed that among other cities we've passed for the last days, the Chalice was the only place that seems too busy, yes. There were a lot of people and I think even when the hands of clock strike at midnight, the street would still be occupied by some. Well, the fact that we were walking in which I think was the Chalice's public market — considering the vendors on the sides, selling their products which were almost food like vegetables and other things. So, I guess it was expected to see a lot of them, here. Despite the volume of livings walking around the place, it seems like it double up as time goes by. They keep on coming, adding to the deafening noises. I heard Deniz groaned who's leading the way. The little Fairies hid in my pockets again as we walked. "Damn... I think the Chalice's population got doubled. The street wasn't this busy when I last visited here." "Ah, I've heard your chick, Rosie kept the people from the other city who were abandoned by their ruler. So, maybe that explains why," Terran explained. My lips formed into o shape. "Oh, so she's like an angel?" I teased. "Deniz must be so lucky once she fall in the trap." "I thought so," Terran added. "And Rosie would be miserable being stuck with him." Deniz stopped walking. His back was on us and we can see how his shoulders tensed for a bit. Chuckling, I shook my head in disbelief. I think Terran pushed went too far. Yet Deniz kept his silent and I could hear Terran beside me letting out a small chuckle upon seeing how he reacted. "He was affected... After all, he actually liked Rosie for quite some time now." If that was true, then I'm glad for he still know what genuineness feels like. Not to sounds like a judge, but for the past few years, I always see Deniz with different girls. It doesn't really matter to me but I'm more like concern of his well-being and for those girls he played with. Play... The word described him. I haven't seen him being serious when it comes to romantic relationship for he just love playing around. But now, after hearing Terran, I pray it was true. I know Deniz when it comes to his commitment as a leader. He failed no one, and I could feel his eagerness to lead the Nixie and honestly, it was enviable. I don’t know... Maybe because I don’t have that passion to lead unlike them who have desires to rule ever since they were born. When I was a child, I was exposed in the world where title matters especially if you were born in a high class family. And I, being the la Reina and la Roi’s daughter, was pressured. I have engraved the idea that I need to lead, to prove I deserve the title, to shoulder the responsibility because I felt like I’m obliged to do so. Finally, we got rid of the tight place. “It was so hot there,” Terran complained, using the back of his hand to wipe the sweats off of his forehead. Slowly, I slid my hand between us and held his other hand to slowly release my arm from his tight yet gentle hold. “Yeah,” I agreed, smiling a bit. “But so far, Chalice was the only town we’ve come across to that seems to be well-developed.“ “What made you think of that though?” Deniz suddenly asked, facing me with his now serious front. Knotting my forehead, I roamed my eyes around. “I’m basing on the towns we’ve come across to in the last few days,” I answered and look at him closely. I mean, we did encounter one town that was noisy as the Chalice. By just looking at these tall towers in the Chalice, shops and houses everywhere, the amount of people they have. It’s overpopulated, I guess. Yet these countless establishments I think, equals the volume of their people. “Well, that was true,” Terran added. “But now, we don’t have time to be amazed, princess. Remember what we came here for...” Sighing, I nodded wearily. I didn’t forget the purpose but somehow, it tires me that made me want to give up. But that would be a sin. I can’t give up, right? I can’t even if I wanted to. There’s no life waiting for me once I choose to be weak. After all, life is about choices and even though, the fact that bearing this great responsibility totally wore me out, I will still choose to be exhausted rather than leave everything I work hard for. It’s one of the reasons why I can’t just give up the title. I don’t want to waste the life we’ve lost just for me to get the position. Someone sacrificed for me... Someone has sacrificed her life, so I could be part of the Acres Kingdom with a title. And wasting it means breaking my promise to be the best leader I can be. I’ve made a promise and breaking it would be my first real heartbreak. Not only me would be put in pain, but everyone who lay their faith on me. It wouldn’t be just me that would get disappointed to myself, but I guess, the one who made me sat on the throne will also get sad upon seeing me fall from the top. I knew I also did my part to be the leader of the Faye region. I’ve put my sweat and blood but without that sole reason, maybe I’d just be a hidden princess whom everyone will neglect. And I don’t want to be neglected by my loved ones. Feeling what she felt would be worst for she told me, she made me promise not to let anyone degrade nor make me feel unwanted. Because it’s the worst feeling one can ever experience. “We have to go to the main tower to talk to Rosie,” Deniz said cooly. “Well, I just hope she would be a big help to us. Or else, we might waste our time again looking for nothing.” I hope so, too. We have wasted enough time and we can’t let another day pass without getting anything that would lead is to find who carry the Power of Glamour. All of our time and efforts, I’m hoping that it wouldn’t be put to waste. “Let’s go, shall we?” I invited but then, for some reason, Deniz was stuck on his position. His eyes were fixed in front, unmoving. The next thing I heard, he cussed under his breath. Looking at him, confusion runs down to my stream. “What the heck, Deniz! Why do you look so nervous? You seems constipated,” I commented with a knotted forehead, thinking he has an upset stomach not when I heard Terran laughs. “The chick is coming towards our direction, princess. Deniz was at state which he doesn’t know what to react once Rosie come face-to-face.” With that, my head snapped across us. There, I saw a woman walking confidently, owning the street with all her might. There were two men on both of her side and I’d like to think they were her servants. Every step was dusty as she move her red boots on the ground. She felt powerful, yes. And honestly, I liked the confidence she brought. The few people in the hall made a way, bowing their heads as she walked passed them, not even glancing in their direction. She moved gracefully, showing the people around her that she owned the place. That she was the boss of the Chalice and even I, got the message. So, this was Rosie... Just like her name, she was a walking flower that would torn anyone who plans to ruin her. And yes, I like the vibe she’s giving. It was too strong that one can’t tell it by just looking at her angelic face. I wouldn’t question why Deniz liked this woman. She was definitely the ideal... “My source came running to me telling you’re here,” she said once she got near us, not even greeting us. Her words were meant for Deniz who was now composed. I wanted to laugh at how overly his posture. He was stiffed showing her his best standing position and even Terran would agree with me. “Ah, yes...” His voice was deep and inside me, I’m already dying in laughter. Where did that deepness came from? His voice was normal when Rosie wasn’t here. “If you’re here to ask me again, then I’m telling you no, Deniz. My answer is still a no and it never be change to yes,” she was confident and somehow, it lessen how I looked up to her a few seconds ago. Ah... So, this is how it feel like to encounter someone who’s overconfident as you. I rolled my eyes mentally. At least, I got something to grab about. I just don’t know with her. And question... Deniz got rejected, again? It’s that what it meant? “No, Rosie...” The way her name came out of his lips was too soft! I saw the woman’s eyes changed but it was too quick. “We’re here to ask a few things and other than that, nothing.” Rosie’s brows shot up. Overall, her features were soft except her cat eyes that seems to captivate guys. It was what made her look strict and hostile. I bet some guys felt scared to approach her because of the vibe she gives. I’m not intimidated by she has that aura that would make other people feared her. But I don’t... The only ones whom I feared were my mum and dad. Especially mum... “What is it?” Now, she was serious. “It’s better if talk about it privately, not here. It’s somewhat confidential. A sensitive topic,” it was Terran. A few seconds later when Rosie’s gaze fell back on me. And maybe I just assumed when I saw her eyes widened for a moment upon seeing me. “Oh...” she reacted, the my view went to her throat. I smirked mentally. “Okay, then. Please follow me...”
