Chapter 27 - The Old Woman

1053 Words
She brought us to the small house. The tiny space was literally built in a shape of box, just a small kitchen and a table good to sit onto for a coffee with friends. Well, that’s how I see it. When my butt touch the wooden stool, my mind quickly got off to think of possible things that would happen inside this box. It was so tiny and only the door and small window above the kitchen sick were the only ways to use to escape this elfish place. When we were following Rosie, I’d expect she would bring us to her tower — if there is — to talk about our business but to my disappointment, we were stuck in the place where only a teardrop shaped light bulb that produces a yellowish light gives us guide. I’m not complaining but rather, my expectations disappoints me. Well, the ruler of the Chalice wasn’t even obliged to accompany us to her place, anyway. Or maybe because I was just used to see other high officials boosting their goodies. Ah, this Rosie was quite different from them, huh. “We’ll not stay long... We just need some information about the Achlys,” Denix started. I composed myself. It should be me who’s doing the talking, not him or anyone else. It’s me who need the information most. Before opening my mouth, I looked down on my pockets and signaled the little Fairies to free themselves which they did without any word. The woman’s eyes went to them the moment they sways their wings to fly in the air. I could see the look of amazement in her eyes but I chose to interrupt her. “I wanted to know if you have any idea about the Achlys,” I said which caught her attention. With her knotted forehead, she spoke. “Just the basics but not that really much. The Chalice — my city and Achlys never had a communication, so I can’t really tell anything that would help you in any ways.” Just the basics... She was probably tight. And I couldn’t understand why she was the one we’ve run to when she’s seem to be in the same age as mine. We should look for someone older who really has the knowledge about the city of Achlys. But thinking of it, only one person entered my mind. The Queen Mother. After all, she was there when everything happened. Yet the problem is she won’t tell me a lot of things about it. I don’t know why though. It has always been my question. I always desires to know everything, but she can’t seem to tell me. Just like Rosie, I only knew basics. The books written about the Achlys weren’t even available in our library, even though the people living in there was once an Acresians. If there is a book about them, it was just the history between the two kingdoms. The Acres Kingdom and the Achlys. I’ve been wanting to know everything. Listening to people’s stories about it doesn’t really count for it was contradicting and I didn’t know which one to believe anymore. So, I acted deaf... Didn’t even try to think much of it because of different point of views. It does nothing to me but headaches. I only want to hear the Queen Mother’s side for I thought, among the other people, she was the one whom I put my full trust when it comes to everything. Whatever she says, I’d believe it. “We have a bunch of books about them, though. It was barely touched by our people for they weren’t that interested to know the Achlys and the fact that it doesn’t concerns or even connected to our city,” said Rosie who nods her head. “But if you want, I can bring you to the oldest woman living here in our city. I bet she was there when the Achlys was still starting, but I don’t know if she knows everything. Maybe not that much but it’s definitely not basics.” I felt their all eyes on me. While my mind fell into the depths. I felt like we were just wasting our time here. What if we comes back and convince the Queen Mother — with all I can — to just tell me anything that would help me get what I want? The last person who has the Power of Glamour was her mum’s sister, after all. The Queen Mother’s auntie, and I wanted to know if it was passed down to someone, so I could go and get it myself to secure my rank in the Acres Kingdom. But I’ve always convince her... I’m afraid that she wouldn’t talk just because. For some reason, the Queen Mother just can’t open her mouth to speak. I don’t know if it was because of the pain she had went through that made her not speak, or maybe there was something more? Deep reason why she can’t tell. Because honestly, she has been telling me things that I already knew. Based on the books... It just seems to me that I’m reading but in a story telling way because it was all the same from the books, then the stories she would always tells me to. “Well?” Rosie waited and that was when I came back from my reverie. I look at all of them, without a clear plans inside my mind. I open my mouth to talk but no words came out. I am baffled as of this moment like nothing seems clear. At this time, I’m in the state of bewilderedness and I couldn’t seem to understand anything. “If you want, I can bring you to her right now to grasp for some information you need about the Achlys.”
