“Have you done this before? Showing the victim around to lift his spirit? To leave some good memories before he leave?”
I figured he’s smart. Are humans smart? He easily decipher what I’m trying to do. I felt like I don’t have to explain everything to him because he can easily catch up, that just one glance, he’d know what it’s this all about because he’s smart, I can tell that.
Just like now... I was trying to keep it low but I guess he already know that yes, I am doing this for him to make some good memories.
“You figured,” I uttered. “And no, this is my first time to interact with a human. I’m trying to make a good impression, though.”
He chuckled. “You talk like a civilized human. Are you sure you are not human?”
Rolling my eyes, I tucked my hair behind my ears. We continued to walk out of the Enchanted Forest. It’s a long way to go. If he’s not here, I’m probably out by now.
“Shut up and quit asking me an obvious questions. Obviously, I am a human and you shouldn’t be really asking me that. Will you stop?” I said feeling annoyed.
It’s just made me remember that I once doubted my identity.
“Alright, alright. You are not a human but a fairy,” he cleared his throat. “Although until now I still have hangs up of believing if this is really true or just a surprise shot conducted by directors. This is f ucked up, right? Who would have thought that these are real? This world is the total opposite of ours. I bet it’s full of magi, am I right?”
I didn’t talk. I just let him do the talking as we continued our way out of the Enchanted Forest.
“I thought it only happen in movies,” he added. “Fantasy, you know... Now I wonder if those movies have a similarities with you, a real fae. Do you shift? I noticed that you are different from those dwarves — I mean, those little fairies.”
“I’m different,” I uttered simply. “Just different. It’s not like we have to be same in every aspect, right? For identity, we have to be different. To be unique...”
“Well, you are right... But did you not feel like you’re an outcast because of that difference? I’m sure somehow, yes, you felt left out.”
I felt so attacked. This guy knows how to work his way to my nerves, huh. But then again, he is right. I won’t deny that because it happens, always. Like I felt I’m not belong because of me just being... different from others.
Even though they have accepted me for who I am, except those who hated me for being a woman... That should be the only thing that matters, right? To be feel loved and accepted by those people close to my heart. I should just listen to them and not with others.
I am different but that not make me any less of a person.
Just like what my mother always remind me, I am unique. I should not let anyone influence me to change my perspective about myself because it doesn’t matter. They don’t matter to me.
All those words were nothing but ways to ruin me. And I won’t let them ruin me, okay. I won’t... I have proven myself and I guess that’s more than enough to believe that those people are just envious of my achievements. They didn’t want me to surpass them, be it power or connection and everything, they all want everything to themselves because they are afraid to be dominated by a woman.
By me... Well, I won’t. But a little discipline won’t hurt, I guess.
“Why do you have a lot of question? You are so curious and I don’t have the energy to entertain those.”
“You should have that energy to feed my curiosity, Rani Letisha. I am a nosy one, I ask questions because I want answer. I ask because I don’t know and I want to know facts. As simple as that... All you have to do is present me a good, convincing, and valid answers, right?”
“You were asking about personal, Nikolas. I am willing to satisfy your curiosity but not with my personal life. You are crossing the line, aren’t you? Let’s build a boundaries here. You are allowed to ask me with limitation. Do not invade my personal space and I won’t do the same either. Are we clear?”
We stopped from walking. I can already see the light coming from outside. There are little fairies guiding the entrance. And once we go out, it’s not my territory anymore but the central of the Acres Kingdom we’re gonna find. The palace where the king and queen resided.
The palace is surrounded by us, four regions. It’s in the center so it is accessible for all.
“Are you a private person?”
“Who wouldn’t want to keep their privacy?” I countered. “You? You are nosy and you probably likes to stick your nose on someone’s business. And we don’t do that here, Nikolas. So keep your curiosity about my life within you. The only thing you have the rights to know is the rules, and how this world works for you. You should keep that in your mind, huh? To avoid conflict and trouble, be safe.”
“So boring...” he uttered which I ignored.
“Whatever you say. I know you didn’t choose to be here but your life choose you to be here so abide the rules. Remember, this world is nor yours. Humans don’t rule our world so abide, Nikolas.”
“You keep reminding me that... And yes, I will. You don’t have to worry about that.”
“I’m not worried,” I said slowly. “I just don’t trust you. I may not be here at all times but I have my eyes on you. One wrong move and you’ll be dead meat. If you want to live, behave according to our rules.”
“I also don’t trust you,” he said back. “But then I had no choice but to trust you, Rani Letisha. No one gave me an option but only you. So I trust you can help me all throughout my stay here even though I knew it means dying for me.”
“How can you easily accept that tragic fact, huh? At first, you were begging to get out of this situation, to save your life but now, what happened? It seems to me like you have accepted your fate without questions now, Nikolas. I don’t know if I should feel bad or not.”
Truth is I feel bad for him. For the life he was supposed to have if not because of the curse of the missing portal. He mentioned he was an actor. He must have a career going on there but then, now went down because he is here.
“The career I’ve built in the past years in human world will be put to waste. And it’s not like I can do something to prevent this from happening, or even you. I have lost my hope when you told me you can’t do anything that would help me get out of here.”
Again, we continued to walk. I just stopped by to greet those Little Fairies guarding the entrance. They didn’t even look at the new face, at Nikolas. They lowered their heads down and preceded to their work. Well, Fairies are not nosy unlike this man. They didn’t care about seeing a new face as long as it’s accompanied by me, and with those trusted people because they assumed it’s not a threat and it is not, indeed.
It’s partly the reason why I have guarded not just the Enchanted Forest but the whole Faye region for the safety of everyone. It’s not like I don’t trust the other members of other regions but with us, no one is allowed to enter our premises without each other’s knowledge. It is to make sure that nothing bad will happen and we all agreed with that.
“Does that mean that you have given up your life? What if there is someone who can help you? Will your heart be filled with hope again?”
“Of course!” he exclaimed. “I still want to live, Rani Letisha. I was just starting doing what I truly like in the human world and I want to continue it, to continue my parents’ legacy.”
“You have a family?” I was a bit confused.
“Yes...” he looked at me with knotted forehead. “I have a family and I bet they’re worried now.”
Then why is he here if that’s the case? I stopped and stared at him strangely. The missing portal will only bring someone who don’t have a family anymore. Then, what is the meaning of this?
“So, they are still alive by now?”
He nodded, then glared at me for a second.
“Yes,” he answered shortly. “They are still alive. I guess they’ll outlive me which is just fine, though. I want them to live longer and enjoy life.”
“Without you?”
He shrugged, and smirked a bit. We continued to walk.
“They are not really my parents —“
When he stopped, that’s when I realized we are crossing the line. Rolling my eyes, I dismissed him by waving my hands.
“You know, you can freely talk about your personal life. I won’t mind and I will sure do if you ask about mine.”
“I think you are unfair on that part,” he commented which I didn’t mind.
“I am... But I do not care, Nikolas.”
I can see the tall tower. But I don’t have plans to bring him there to face my parents. At least not now... I still have to know a thing or two about him before he face them. Besides, I haven’t ask him yet. Although there is really no need but then again, permission first. He can freely refuse to meet up with them if it makes him feel uncomfortable or maybe, if the thought scare him. Again, I won’t force Nikolas to engage at things he doesn’t want to.
I still need to respect him if I want to be respected.
“Privacy is... something I didn’t have in other world. As expected in the kind of industry I chose. People will dig deeper about your past and if it’s revealed? You can’t really do a thing to stop it but just wait for it to die down. That’s how it works, you know. Social media...”
Gosh... What do I know about social media? What does it do, though? This man... Does he think that we live in the same world wherein I can understand whatever he says?
“I don’t understand you. Please refrain from talking unfamiliar things here, understood?”
“Yeah, right. Sorry about that. I forgot you guys are not civilized,” he whispered under his breathe.
“Shut up,” I said firmly.
From afar, I can see a familiar figure. It was Terran and Deniz which made me stop from walking, as well as Nikolas beside me whose attention is now settled with the two guys walking in towards our direction.
“Holy s hit... They looked so cool with their outfit,” he whispered beside me. “Are you sure those are nor costumes? This is unbelievable.”
“Will you please shut up for a moment, Nikolas? You are so noisy,” I reminded him.
“I can’t just hide my amazement. Those hairs and outfits are so cool!”
Deniz would never. They are totally the opposite of each other.
“They can hear you even if you whisper,” I informed him.
He coughed. When they stopped in front of us, they both looked at him. Terran looked so bored while Deniz seemed to enjoy his presence. Of course, he probably heard him. He would boast about it again.
“I heard your comments,” said Deniz. “So thank you for the compliments. If you want, I can ask someone to make you clothes the same as mine.”
I was surprised at the sudden change in Nikolas’s voice when he talked.
“I’m fine, no need for that...” he said as bored as Terran.
