Zach was nervous when they walked into the county courthouse. He’d only been there once for jury duty years ago. Appearing before a judge was not something he was used to doing.
Gianna took the lead, speaking to the clerk and asking for a special hearing due to extenuating circumstances. When she explained exactly what those were, the clerk flashed Summer a look of apology. Summer smiled back, oblivious to the reason for the look.
“Judge Mackee has an opening in ten minutes. You can go into her chambers and speak to her privately since there’s no one else involved in the case. I’ll ask one of her clerks to join you.”
“Thank you,” Gianna said, smiling.
“You’re welcome. I know this isn’t an easy time for any of you. Hopefully this can help move things along a little better.”
