One Broken Lover's Heart (High School AU: Jacob Frye x Reader)
There was a popular group, led by three people. Two, were twins and the last was the boyfriend of the eldest twin. They called their group, the Rooks. The high school respectively, had a rival group called the Blighters. It was usually a contest to see which gang was more powerful in terms of brute strength, or who could outwit who. On more than one occasion, they have gone and t-peed each others' houses. However- it was towards the leaders of the group. After Lucy Thorne announced that she had been outwitted by the infamous Evie Frye of the Rooks, she had dropped out of the Blighters and laid low within the school and its drama. All that remained was Maxwell Roth and Crawford Starrick, facing Jacob and Evie Frye with Henry Green (Evie's boyfriend).
Now why were you important to all of this? Because you got involved in these skirmishes almost everyday. You were the victim (sometimes) of t-peeing and egging by the mercy of those who were too stupid to identify your house properly. It left your parents disgruntled and you in a bitter mood. At points you couldn't sleep because you could hear the splats of cracking eggshells on your windows.
So each day, you let it gnaw at you. The knowledge that those three Rook Leaders were ultimately destroying your home and your family's patience on correcting the attitude. You couldn't ever stay angry or bitter for long- Jacob Frye was just such an eye candy. A bit daft- but he was certainly street smart and handsome. He was a jock as well, which turned you away from ever having the hopes of being with him.
In fact, not too long ago you had been dating one of the Rooks when you found out that he had been cheating on you with another Rook. You didn't blame him- he did end up seeing her more often than he did you, and you thought she was prettier than you anyways. It still hurt though, catching them making out in his bed with her legs around his waist and- you shook your head from the thought, turning over your AP Physics book before gently pressing close the metallic locker. Your heart ached just a bit each and every time; it was like everyone had a date except you. You were the oddball.
Giving a pout, you shifted your book in your arms before making your way to your scheduled study hall. At least you could clear your mind a little bit. It did you little justice though. You could barely concentrate on the words and formulas, and you wanted to sob into your notebook instead. But, you bit back your tears once more before you opted to move along to find something to do.
The high school had a swim team; yes, indeed, you were on it. You were amazing- just scraping past the qualifying times of Varsity and was admired by the younger classmates that also swam with you. You didn't set any records, but it was your kind smiled at practice that brought attention to you. However the season ended not so long ago, causing some grief to ever more enter within your heart. It wasn't your last swim year, but it certainly was close to it.
So when you passed on by the trophies and saw pictures of your team, a sad smile crossed your face before you trailed on ahead. The past season brought Rooks and Blighters together, showing that they could indeed work together and caused those few to actually leave the little gangs. Though you heard things were worse elsewhere.
Giving a sigh, you finally passed through the athletics hall and arrived at the large field house. It led outside, the football field bringing spring breezes to the area and in the distance, you can see the newest skirmish about to happen between the Rooks and Blighters. There wasn't any Jacob Frye there, so you ultimately opted to pass watching that fight.
Turning from the doors, you stopped to stare at two people in red- or with some red on them to show their loyalty to the Blighters- and they gave you an evil smile.
"Looks like we found our next scandal~" the taller one hummed. He was tall, with dark hair pulled back and body slightly hunched over.
His partner in crime smiled devilishly as she fluttered her eyelashes and twirled a lock of hair around her finger. "I agree," she stated. A gasp escaped in the air, you being grabbed by the male and suddenly dragged off to a particularly abandoned hallway.
The school heard it all. At this point, you were in tears at the accusations and rumors against you. The two had taken you away and it wad then you found out they were part of the newspaper club. They had forcefully shoved you into Rook's colors and framed you for: selling out information to the Blighters, and even selling yourself to some of the male Blighters to get in on some fun, as you were merely a rook used to pass information along to others.
Tears were cascading down your cheeks, unable to stop the slander and the dirty glares from both sides. No one liked a w***e- and no one liked traitors. Why did you have to wander that day? You constantly questioned yourself. It hurt you emotionally and physically, and you had hand bruises still on your forearms and shoulders when the two had man handled you.
Instead of being at the principals office, you were sitting in a room that was littered with the new lies that was being filtered through the school and information on the leaders of the Blighters. Henry was standing off to the side with his arms crossed over his chest, Evie sitting on the desk before you with a deep frown and a very scary looking Jacob as he glowered at you from his perch beside the window. You weren't a rook- but they wouldn't listen to you no matter how many times you've tried to explain.
"What? And this is okay? To be a w***e and to parade our information around? Did you think you weren't going to be caught?" Jacob sneered in distaste, nose wrinkling and hazel eyes glowing with burning hatred.
Might I add, your crush on him begun to dwindle when you found out he was dating Pearl Attaway right after you were forcefully framed?
You sniffed, head bowed and tears never ceasing as they dropped into your hands and continued to puddle in the soft crevices of your flesh. You didn't answer- you didn't want to. Not like you could anyway.
Henry had finally spoken up, having listened to the whole rant at you from Jacob before he finally questioned in a calm tone, "You aren't a Rook, or a Blighter, are you?"
Your head tilted, soon shaking in no to confirm what he said.
A kind smile grew, though it was more out of sympathy than anything. "Ah... That makes sense. I know some of your swim team that used to be Rooks. They said you didn't have the urge to join because you thought it was a waste of time?"
"Waste of time? Really?" Jacob echoed in a snarl, his anger directed more at you as he felt insulted by your word choice.
"Hush Jacob," Evie's soft tone rang out.
"For a young lady who is aspiring to get a scholarship for college, it is indeed a waste of time Mr. Frye," Henry explained as he slowly trailed over to stand beside Evie. You had looked up a bit more, staring at their knees instead of your lap. "A girl who keeps to herself and has no reputation within the gang feuds of ours suddenly pops up in a scandal saying lewd things about her? Surely that is some suspicious activity," he hummed.
Evie frowned then, reaching forward and comfortingly set a hand on your shoulder. She gave it a firm but yet... gentle squeeze, creating a quiet wince from you before she said, "I promise that Jacob and I will get to the bottom of this. For now, you can remain with us until this whole confusion clears up. I don't want anyone to bully you more than they have. You don't deserve this."
You looked into her green hued gaze, her foreign accent filling the air around you. All you could do was smile slightly before giving a nod. "Thank you," you whispered, not trusting your voice in fear it would crack and cause another round of crying.
"Lets go get you ice cream, yeah?" Henry smiled widely, giving his girlfriend a knowing look. It was then you spent the rest of the night with the couple; Jacob probably brooding and whining to his girlfriend about what happened.
The next day, you were nervously waiting Evie and Henry to arrive below the large oak tree in front of the school. They hadn't shown up yet, and with each passing second it was getting closer to the bustling students. However, it seemed like the Rooks got to your first. You had fended for yourself for a good while, biting, elbowing, kicking, punching- almost everything until you had been slammed against the side of the school building and had the wind knocked from your lungs. Your nose was bleeding, an eye swelling and your ribcage was now being adorned with bruised and your stomach as well- though they were welting into nasty bruises.
"Rooks," Jacob snarled out, causing them to all leap away from your trembling form. He sounded angry, your eyes turning up from his silhouette and turning to the concrete as tears refreshened in their wake. "We don't hurt the innocent... we protect them from the Blighters. Have I not taught you well?" He asked, gently picking your frame up and tenderly cradling you in his arms.
"B-but sir-!" One squeaked in protest.
"It was a scandal by Pearl Attaway. She apparently heard about _____'s crush on Jacob and decided to make sure she wouldn't have the chance in the day to meet him properly, nor ever really. To think she's managed to keep it up for several weeks straight is quite an amazing feat," Evie explained as she approached, Henry shooing off the Rooks after telling them their punishment was to clean the toilets in the school bathrooms.
You were blinking slowly up at Jacob, his hazel hues gently flickering over your body and his large hands gently brushing over your frame to inspect your wounds. You hissed in pain when your ribs were touched, but he didn't touch anywhere else. "How did she...?" You weakly asked.
"Several Blighters overheard your conversation with one of your friends. Pearl acted jealous; she simply used her cousin with his power," Evie explained softly as she crouched down on the other side of you.
"But that's not the first time we've heard of you," Jacob admitted softly, causing your good eye to turn back up and over his handsome features. "One of our Rooks spoke highly of you.."
"Even when the ones you know spoke highly of you when they were still with us," Henry hummed out from out of your sight.
"So it didn't add up when we heard about this story. Apparently your ex-lover looked regretful he couldn't be there to help you when it first started," Evie murmured as she took your hand in hers and she gave it a gentle squeeze. Fresh tears swelled, looking over at her and her sad smile before looking up at Jacob as his arms wrapped ever more around you.
"I'm sorry for yelling and insulting you like that last night.. I let my emotions get the better of me," he whispered apologetically, his head ducking and forehead pressing to yours. "And admittedly... I've been infatuated with meeting you since the first time I've heard a compliment from my Rooks' mouthes. Is it alright if I'm able to purchase one broken lover's heart?"
You looked up at him, inner turmoil taking over. You wanted to hate him for letting his Rooks hurt you and for him to accuse you like so much of the school did, but it wasn't his fault. He was misled just like the rest and he seemed to be angry that the thought of you being a skank was something that diced up his heart and expectations of you. "Go ahead... it's not like anyone has it to keep you from it anyways," you breathed.
A smile suddenly replaced the fretting look on his face, and his lips softly melded against yours as his hands carefully cradled your head. Releasing you gently from the kiss, he tilted his head and gave a lopsided grin.
"He was right. You are a damn good kisser!" He chortled, Evie punching her twin in the shoulder and Henry laughing to the side when Jacob fell backwards.
It seems like your heart that was up for sale is taken; and somehow you know, it wont ever be back on the market again.
