Because every five minutes, I was tapped on the shoulder and given a note to pass. This went on for the whole course, and at the end, I was certain I had done something wrong and wished Mrs. Karen Smith had made us place our phones in a basket at the start. In the earlier days, communication was tough; a pony express would have been excellent. The casual conversation around me came to a standstill when the principal walked onto the stage and began taking places behind the podium. He stayed in that position for a few seconds, athletic and clothed totally in Nike, before extending his palm even higher into the skies. Chaos exploded all around me. "We are truly the Maybeck Birds, and none of us could be more proud, and if you can't hear them, we'll holler a bit higher!" everyone said, leaping from their chairs and lifting their hands in the air.
