Chapter 64

430 Words
“I barely got out of the house for this trip, babe. I’d rather not think about what my mom would approve and wouldn’t,” I say, licking grease off my lips. “Besides, it’s not like this is our first alcohol.” I thought he referred to the alcohol. But he didn’t react when I said that, which led me to believe he was talking about something else mom wouldn’t approve of. We were barely into sophomore year, and we’ve never talked of it before. Not once did he mention any s****l activity happening on this trip. He didn’t even hint at it. My panicking and rampant thoughts must have surfaced to my face because he looked at me like my head was about to explode. “Hey, what’s wrong?” He asks, putting down his pizza. “You, um, you’re not, um,” I stuttered awkwardly, unable to tell him that I hope he wasn’t hoping he could get some from me tonight because he certainly wasn’t on the table. “You’re not thinking of pursuing something, are you?” I finally managed to cough out. Although, I doubt he understood my meaning. “What?” He looked at me confused. “Um, you didn’t think something would, um,” my throat started itching by this point. The cold beer was not helping. “Happen tonight, between us, right?” He looked at me shocked, with a mouth full of pizza. His jade eyes were wide and his lips turned pale in a minute. Now, it was his turn to swallow and gulp awkwardly. “Oh, God, are you?” I stood up, quite dumbfounded when he didn’t reply immediately. He looked at me, unsure of my confusion. “Did you really expect it?” I throw an accusing finger at him. I was beyond bewildered. “Well, I mean,” he starts throwing his hands around and sheepishly rubbing his nape. “We’re in a lake house miles away from home.” “We are eight miles away from home! It’s less than an hour drive here,” I argued, my voice reaching an octave higher. His expectations of me was making me panic faster than lightning. “Oh yeah, sure. My mom could hear you scream all the way here,” he replies, sarcastically. “What the hell, James? Why would you place that burden on me? We are too young!” By this point, I was practically yelling. Thank God for no neighbors and a wide lake, or else everyone could have heard me screaming.
