Chapter 12: No More Secrets, Only Love

1476 Words
The drive back to the mansion was quiet, but it was the most beautiful kind of silence I had ever known. No more awkwardness. No more pretending. No more fear of being found out. Just peace, and warmth, and the undeniable truth that the man sitting next to me, holding my hand tightly on the gear shift, was mine. Truly, completely, and forever mine. Lucas kept glancing at me—every few seconds, his eyes would leave the road just to look at me, a soft, unbelieving smile playing on his lips, as if he still couldn’t quite grasp that I was really here, that I was really his. "You keep staring," I said softly, squeezing his hand, unable to stop smiling myself. He chuckled, the sound deep and rich, filling the car. "Can you blame me? I spent months looking at you in two different ways, thinking you were two different people. Now I know... it’s just you. The same beautiful, amazing, incredible woman. And I can’t get enough. I want to look at you forever." He lifted my hand to his lips and kissed my knuckles, sending shivers of happiness all over my body. "And you know what the best part is, Mia?" he asked, his voice turning serious and tender. "What?" "That I don’t have to choose. I never had to choose. Because whether you were the quiet, elegant wife at home, or the hardworking, sweet secretary at the office... I loved you both. I loved all of you. Every side, every part, every secret you kept... I loved it all because it was you." My heart swelled until I thought it would burst. This was everything I had ever wanted. Everything I had prayed for during those long, lonely nights. To be seen. To be known. To be loved... completely. When we pulled up in front of the grand mansion, the place that had once felt so cold and empty suddenly looked warm and welcoming. For the first time, I didn’t see it as just a house I lived in. I saw it as our home. Lucas parked the car and immediately ran to my side to open the door for me. He offered his arm, and I took it, walking beside him with my head held high. No more sneaking in. No more hiding. Tonight, and from this night on, I walked in as Mrs. Lucas Montenegro. As we stepped into the grand hallway, the lights were dim and soft. Usually, I would rush straight to my wing, avoiding him, avoiding conversation. But tonight, Lucas didn’t let me go to my room. He led me straight to the living room, the place where we used to pass each other like strangers. He sat down on the large sofa and pulled me gently onto his lap, wrapping his arms around my waist so I was sitting comfortably against his chest. I wrapped my arms around his neck, resting my head on his shoulder, breathing in his familiar, expensive scent—wooden, fresh, and entirely Lucas. "This is where we used to be," he murmured, his hand rubbing soothing circles on my back. "We would sit here, meters apart, not saying a word, while I looked at you and wondered why I felt so drawn to you, yet so far away. I would see you walk by and think... Who is she? What is she thinking? Why does she look so familiar?" He pulled back slightly to look me in the eyes, his expression full of regret and love. "And all this time... you were thinking the same thing. You were suffering in silence, carrying the weight of our contract and your secret all alone. I am so sorry, Mia. For every time I ignored you. For every time I was cold. For every time I made you feel like a stranger in your own home." I touched his face, my thumb tracing his eyebrows, his nose, his lips. "It’s over now, Lucas. All the pain, all the confusion, all the secrets... they are gone. We found our way back to each other. That’s what matters." He nodded, his eyes shining. "Yes. We did. And now... I promise you. I will spend the rest of my life making it up to you. I will love you louder. I will love you harder. I will love you in every way possible, so you never have to doubt it again." He leaned in and kissed me, slow and deep, pouring every ounce of his feelings into it. It was a kiss that spoke of promises kept, of mistakes forgiven, and of a love that had survived the hardest test—its own confusion. When we finally pulled away, breathless and dizzy with happiness, Lucas stood up, lifting me easily in his arms just like he had done in his office that day I fainted. I wrapped my legs around his waist, surprised and giggling. "Lucas! What are you doing?" He grinned, walking confidently up the stairs toward the master bedroom—his bedroom, the one I had never entered before. "Taking my wife to where she belongs. From tonight on, Mia... we sleep in the same bed. We wake up together. We live together. No more separate wings. No more separate lives. We are one. Husband and wife, in every sense of the word." My heart raced, not with fear, but with pure, unadulterated joy. This was the moment I had dreamed of since the day we signed that contract. He kicked the door open gently and laid me down softly on the large, soft bed. He climbed in beside me, pulling me close until there was no space left between us. He held me as if I were the most precious treasure he had ever found. "Tomorrow," he whispered against my hair, "everything changes. At the office, I will announce to everyone that you are not just my secretary. You are my wife, my partner, and the love of my life. Elena and everyone else will know... I belong to you. Only you." I looked up at him, my eyes wide. "Are you sure? What about the company rules? What about our families? They said we had to keep it secret for business reasons." Lucas smirked, that confident, powerful CEO smirk that I had always admired. "Rules? I make the rules, Mia. And our families? They wanted us to be together. They wanted us to build a life. Well... we are building one. And it is far stronger and more beautiful than they ever imagined. Love is the best business deal we ever made." He kissed my forehead, then my nose, then my lips again. "And as for Elena... she can say whatever she wants. She can bring all the gifts and invitations she likes. But I have already given my heart, my name, and my life to the only woman I will ever love. And that woman... is you." I snuggled closer into his embrace, feeling safer, happier, and more loved than I had ever felt in my entire life. Outside, the city lights twinkled, but here, in his arms, I had everything I needed. "Lucas?" I whispered. "Hmm?" "Do you regret it? Any of it? The contract? The secrets? The months of confusion?" He was quiet for a moment, thinking. Then he lifted my chin so I was looking right into his deep, dark eyes—eyes that now only held love for me. "Regret? No, Mia. Not for a second. Because if it hadn’t happened this way... if we had just been given to each other easily... I might never have learned to love you this deeply. I got to fall in love with you twice. I got to know every part of you. I got to realize... that no matter what form you took, no matter who you pretended to be... my heart always found yours. And that... is something I will never regret." He smiled softly, brushing a strand of hair away from my face. "And honestly? I think it’s the most romantic story ever written. Boy meets girl... thinks she’s two people... falls in love with both... realizes they are one... and lives happily ever after. Perfect." I laughed, hitting his chest playfully. "You are impossible, Mr. Montenegro." "And I am yours, Mrs. Montenegro," he replied instantly, his voice low and full of promise. "Forever." As I closed my eyes, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat, I knew it was true. The secrets were gone. The confusion was over. And in its place... was a love that was stronger, deeper, and more beautiful than any fairytale. Tomorrow was a new day. A new beginning. A life without lies, without hiding, without fear. Just me and him. My Grumpy Boss, My Secret Husband... now, My Forever Love.
