✏️Chapter 1: The Secret Contract
“Sign this.” My father placed a thick document before me. My hands trembled as I read the words clearly printed at the top: Marriage Contract. “Father… are you being serious?” I asked, my voice shaking. “Marry someone I have never even met? A stranger?” His expression remained stern and unyielding. “This arrangement is for our family’s business. It is only for three years—after that, you are free to go your own way.” I knew there was no room to argue. There was no escape. One week later, I was married. No wedding ceremony, no guests, no celebration—only signatures on paper. My husband’s name was Lucas Montenegro: young, immensely wealthy, and known to everyone as cold, strict, and unapproachably serious. We did not even meet during the signing. But the very next day, something unexpected happened. I received a call from the company I had applied to: I was hired as the Personal Secretary to the CEO. It felt like a chance to build my own life, independent and free. That hope shattered the moment I stepped into the top-floor office. There he sat—behind a large mahogany desk, sharp in his suit, glasses resting on his nose, his gaze unreadable and icy. “Sir, this is your new secretary,” the HR manager said. He looked me up and down, no warmth, no hint of recognition. “From today, you work for me,” he said in a deep, commanding tone. “I do not tolerate mistakes. Be warned—I am not an easy man to please.” I wanted to shout the truth: I am not just your employee… I am your wife! Instead, I lowered my head, bow to him then whispered, “Yes, Sir… I understand.” And so began my double life—secretary by day, wife in name only, slowly falling for the man who treated me like a total stranger.
